I'm in debt to a friend who helped me identify a song, now I want to return the favor and identify an Anime/animated film he saw as a young child.

Looking for a movie/show about a golden robot covered with hieroglyphic-like symbols, circa 1999-2003

This is his description of the movie's cover art:

"So in the middle is a golden Robot, or being of sorts. Over it's armor are hieroglyphics (in the sense of an interesting etching) The creature is Standing on the moon it would look like. At it's feet are a whole bunch of kids. Over to it's left, a smaller version of the big guy. On the right a big moon rock. I believe the cover was also in space, and had a "Holographic" (holographic in the pokemon card sense) look to it. The lettering of the title is a metallic silver and on the outside of the letters are lased in gold."

Not 100% it was an anime but I was told this would be a good place to look for answers

For the first one, well considering it's Dawn's avatar, then I'd take a guess it's Miki Sayaka, since it's his top fav and it also look like her. Comparing line art also help:

I think the bus derailed because a child appeared in the middle of the road and/or there was a fight on the bus or something.

This anime should be on my list but I looked and couldn't find it.
