Umm, should they have a scene with a dude polishing the staff in a seinen?

Hehe.

Uh, how old was Chiaki supposed to be when she was being proposed to? 12?

I think this episode was amazing. Very awesome. It had a good story and many hilarious moments. Sometimes I thought I was watching a comedy. Fumika's sqeaking when the cat passed her by at the grave and the scenes with the staves were really funny. As well as the *throws pillow - reversal - "What's your problem?* scene. xD

Also Chiaki's a real cutie. Looking forward to more.

"whats your problem?" that was awesome xD
touching episode, chiaki<3 loved the "ring"-I do part, beautiful

This episode was one of the less better ones, though that doesn't make it a bad episode. We got some story on Chiaki, and it was a pretty cute dying story. Love drama with a bad end.

So either the guy was a lolicon, or Chiaki looks waaaaaay to young to be of legal age.

That was a cute episode.
I liked the background on Chiaki and it made me feel happy for her when she found that little happiness at the end of the episode.

Agree with the above. I thought it was gonna be a pointless bench episode with Fumika giving the Shigofumi to the girl they just met. But wow, it was for Chiaki the whole time. I was happy that she was given some backstory and screentime this episode. And what a tragic past she has too. Very great episode.

An excellent blending of humor and drama, flawlessly executed, my second favorite episode of the series. I was actually expecting a genuine letter to Chiaki once Fumika mentioned she was actually doing work, but this was even better. 5/5.

Great episode. It seems to me that back then it was legal for an adult to marry a child. This happened to someone I know's grandparents.

^Drinking age in Japan is 20, so Chiaki was already an adult. She definitely looked really young though, but at times in the flashback you could tell by her demeanor that she wasn't incredibly childlike either.

I liked the tone of this episode a lot, it was a nice change from the darker episodes. It did feel a little weird, as if I was watching some other show for most of the episode though, haha. The comedic scenes were fun.

Chiaki's backstory was really sad, she died in her happiest moment. I mean I guess it's not totally bad because she did have a lot of fun, but it's the potential of a more fulfilling life after the proposal that makes it sad. But it was really touching, how he proposed to her with the tombstone. Even after all these years, he still loves her. I'm crying again just thinking about it. The shigofumi not being really a letter was a nice touch, and made it all the more meaningful.

That was a sweet episode. It was really touching when Chiaki found out that her fiance didn't marry another woman.

I was so bitter when I saw Chiaki's past, but I was glad that she had her chance to get to know her better, so I thought she would remain an anonymous character. Very romantic the narrative in the final part of the episode. <3

That was so melancholic, sad and heartwarming. It was a proposal letter, but she would have been okay, if he had found another woman to live his life fully. That was too sad. :(
So glad they gave Chiaki this beautiful backstory and there are cute fun scenes too.

Episode was pretty boring, but it's still nice to see some backstory for chiaki. Not a fan of the way they just handwaved away the damage the nutjob writer caused. Not the first time this show has done this.

Great episode!

To all the people that somehow missed an entire part of Chiarki's backstory and now make claims about Chiaki's lover being a pedo:
She was an adult. When she's drinking beer, she explains that she's over 21 & we know that she didn't age ever since dying. She just looks younger (she's pretty short), the dude was probably not much older than her.

My first reaction to the episode was "Holy age gap Batman". I mean seriously, she looks 12 and he looks like he's 30. I can buy the "she looks younger than she is" trope that's prevalent in every anime but still, was there any reason that the dude couldn't have been as young as she was ?

That's actually very tragic. The accident happened while Kyosumi was declaring and he was the only one that survived, now imagine the guilt he carried in his conscience for the rest of his life. No wonder he didn't marry anyone else.

It's wholesome to see it from Chiaki's perspective, but that could've been a really sad life for him, a long one. Though, if he adopted and raised a girl, he probably would've found some happiness.

So dull. Shigofumi starts strong with an engaging and unique premise, a stoic but dedicated heroine, a giddy sentient staff to contrast her with, and the surprisingly involved process of being a posthumous mail carrier.

As of this episode, it has no obvious identity anymore. It may as well be a slice-of-life with some bittersweet elements involving a bunch of lovesick students going on adventures and "finding themselves", pulling our tragic kuudere heroine out of her shell and making her find true friendship. Cliche and boring.

Shaded Horizon

Chiaki-chan is a hoot she's the spice this anime needs, lol I'm happy for Chiaki-san maybe this will help remove some of the regrets of her death!
