Generally speaking it would be a full circle ending if that were the case, the story started with the King of the Pirates being executed so ending on a similar note would bring it to a close.
But that being said you have to take into account all of the other characters goals, so there has to be some sense of open ending just for how grand some of the characters ambitions are (Like say Franky wanting to sail a ship he built in every sea, and Nami wanting to draw an accurate map of the entire world).
As for whether it's good or bad ending, who's to say it all depends on execution, but the ending has already been decided on.

If they don't let the characters achieve their goals by the end of the series, I can see everyone splitting up - going their own ways to achieve their dreams.

I think he is gonna die, it was said that he is shortening his life while using gear 2 and the healing hormones from Iva-chan did not help either. So..yeah... He is gonna die. It depends how it is gonna be interpreted.

He want die in the last episode because there won't be last episode, they will just fast forward for multiple years telling about how great of a pirate he was.

i would hope luffy doesn't die at the end. the best end in my opinion is Luffy becomes pirate kind and forms his own harem with nami, loli nami, robin, vivi, rebecca and boa.

That would be a very bad ending.
What was the point in rooting for Luffy through all those episodes and chapters if he was just gonna die in the end? x)

Don't think that will happen.

It depends on the ending, I think it will be good ending if he become Pirate King first then he dies by some disease or whatever Oda has in mind.

God please no. That super aids disease that killed off Goku, Itachi Hashirama Gold Roger and Whitebeard has to stop.

It´s the most anoying tool within the 3 Big Shounen.
X guy was at the top of the world, the unstopable juggernaut that no one could fuck with, but then he got aids and died.

It would be poetic to let him die this way, but it also would be a cup of bullshit because it´s been overused within the series itself.
Just let the story end with an open ending towards their infinite adventures and make Toei write filler till the end of time. The most profitable method and also the most suited one for a lighthearted story like OP.

I doubt he'll ever die. But if he does, I don't think the ending shall necessarily be bad. Depends on other story aspects and their conclusions.

I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.

Most likely I'd reckon that Luffy would probably be executed the same way as Gold Roger. If it was anything different I'd be disappointed tbh.

Depending on how it's done, I wouldn't mind. I don't particularly want to see him die, but I'm sure there are good ways to pull it off.

When a character dies, there's usually other things going on before and after that happens so...

I'd trust oda, but there's not a lot to say about this.

I do agree that it´s the perfect poetic ending for Luffy to start an actual new era with his death unlike the bullshit Whitebeard announced.

The problems I have though are as follows:

Oda mentioned in an SBS that the average maximum age is 120 years in the One Piece world. Kureha is just a regular fit granny with her 141. The life shortening should be meaningless since Luffy has already exceptional vitality, the same applies to Law and Naruto.

There is no possible way Luffy could get captured regulary.
Forcing Oda into giving Luffy the super aids that kills off every Op character ever.
Do you really wanna see the same shit for the 3rd time?

The end of it will be the end of its hype, probably. So I suggest not to end it at all.

Yeah, it would be very shitty if he dies because of the life shortening or something to that effect. Hoping something like that won't happen, but not expecting it to not happen.

In saying that though, I honestly don't want to think about how it would happen, I just know that I'd prefer it if he died. Fucking Coby comes out of nowhere and slays him for the good of the world

I don't think one piece will ever end . It will be like Golgo 13 or HnI. Just going and going..till it's popularity decreased significantly then another tease of an ending to create hype, then going and going..

See, creativity has it´s limits, there is only a certain amount of possible ways that can lead up to a persons death.

No solution will be satisfying to everyone. While I do agree that the perfect ending to the series would be Luffy announcing a new era during his execution there´s no way to write that without being forced. Not without abandoning his current character and developing him into something different and new.

Terrible death scenarios from worst to best.

1.He gets executed because the Marines captured him for letting his guard down.

2. Luffy has super Aids and let´s himself get captured.

3. Luffy dies to his injuries after defeating the final villain and reaching all his dreams. (The flaw he´s not executed, the story isn´t replicated).

4. Luffy developes as a character slowly and matures from his selfish self to become Batman taking in the blame for a huge catastrophe that leads to a unison of all races against him. In order to complete that task he get´s killed by Smoker/Coby. (Requires a completely 180).

You see the issues. Either the development towards his death is overdone, forced or opens more holes in the plot than the moon has.

Yet the editor said last year it's around 70% done....

Damn, never thought of the fourth point, that would be a pretty solid option. But I guess I never imagined something like that, since it seems very (by very I mean absolutely) impossible. Despite those other three choices, I'm still expecting the already discussed second.

Given Oda´s predictability it´s the only option that could possibly happen within the narrative of One Piece.

Nonetheless it´s repetitive enough to make me value the simple riding into the sunset happy end over the option of a boring death scenario.

Whitebeard was killed, not died of a disease and his weakened state is a result of his old age not a disease.

No, because it goes full circle. The main character will always die even if the series doesn't depict it. If everyone accomplishes their dreams at the end and Luffy dies like Gold D Roger, the series will have gone full circle.

Huh, how did you arrive at that conclusion? Arcs like PH or DR seem to drag a lot, but there is still a big story at play here that progresses step after step towards the end with every arc, and since we know what's going to happen at the end, it's EXTREMELY easy to see the finish line.

You make it sound like Oda is asspulling new villains just to extend the story even more, which is obviously not true, because the villains the story is focusing on now were introduced 400 chapters ago and are as relevant to the world and the main story as they possibly can.

Oda likes to take his time (and thank god he can, because I don't want op to end up like toriko), but the story moves forward with clear goals and an end-game in sight, there's no doubt about that.

Well, a main theme of One Piece is creating a legacy and passing it onward so Luffy will probably pass on the straw hat to Makino's (and shanks'?) kid to keep the tradition going

Yeah, I won't be surprised if it climax's with some comic book plot twist like time-travel or aliens or some other fuckery.

Aliens are somewhat confirmed.

Technically the skypeans are aliens they do not live on earth.
If humanity would colonize the moon and live there for generations they´d be aliens although they´ve originated from earth.

Some theories even suggest that the ancient civilization was moon relate, because the planet of One Piece has 3 of them.

Yeah, when I say aliens I mean shit that has to do with the six moons.

First of all, I think Luffy isn't going to die. Oda isn't that type of person who would kill main character. Also I'd probably fell into depression if Luffy died. (I love Luffy ^u^) But if you really think Luffy dies it would probably be something that first makes fans and Luffy's crew very sad but then everybody realises Luffy filled his dream and died happy. This would also make fans happy. Something like that. But at least I would mourn Luffy's death for long time. ToT

First I'd like to say that I think Luffy isn't going to die. I think it would be weird unfitting ending and Oda isn't the type of person to kill main character I think. And I hope Luffy doesn't die coz I'd be very sad coz I love him ^u^ But if you really think Luffy dies then at first everybody would be depressed, fans and Luffy's friends. But soon we'd all realise that Luffy filled his dream and died happy so it isn't very sad ending. I would probably mourn Luffy forever tho...
