| Right, please turn your attention to the dark and edgy Fate/Stay Night: UBW for all your dark and edgy needs. Limb removal, check. Unnecessary loli violence, check. Man stuck in eternal hell, check. Did I mention it's the sequel to Fate/Zero, and Zero Lancer makes his return in UBW? And that the plot point in Zero in which he cursed the Grail gets resolved? |

| those anime above like others said are quite dark. however, if u want a darker approach of genres that are unsual for dark theme, then try Madoka magica , or Selector Wixoss series |

From what I've read, though, Heaven's Feel's the real deal. I would argue that the darkest anime yet is Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, as it surpasses even Heaven's Feel in terms of sheer edginess. |

| Not sure what u mean by dark here but if it means like mature themes, psychological elements, moral and ethical issues then i should highly recommend code geass and shinsekai yori. U get the added advantage of an unbelievably intelligent plot as well :) |

Urobuchi Gen, nicknamed "urobutcher" is known for making quite dark stuff. Yoshiyuki Tomino made quite a lot too, including Gundams and Ideon. I would like to mention Kotoura-san and Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru because they were good. What do you mean by "why"? Because tragic stories are always praised. |

As a result it can get pretty dark as you would expect, and in a way that feels down to earth and natural unlike the abundance of fantasy shock horror anime and such. |
| I would say that Mirai Nikki has a pretty dark story, its really good too. I totally recommend it! (^-^) |

| In Terms of dark atmosphere i would suggest Ergo Proxy and Death Parade and if you would like to watch an anime where people have to deal with stuff like mental issues i definitely recommend Welcome to the NHK and Paranoia Agent. What also comes to my mind is Gankutsuou where the story is based on the book " The Count of Monte Cristo " . Disturbing scenes, people trying to hide their dark secrets and one devilish main character is what you will find there. |

| Texhnolyze. Hands down. From what I've seen it's nihilistic as f*** and I don't really see a silver lining here. This anime makes other shows mentioned here like some kids show. I liked it but I have it On-hold for now just because of that fact alone. |
| A few of my favorite, but more dark series would be: Fate/Zero Another Hellsing Ultimate Tokyo Ghoul (These have a considerable amount of gore for some people) A few favorite supernatural series with less gore would be: Beautiful Bones Erased |

But... why is it not rated R then? Even Madoka is, and it's certainly not R material. It's rated E. For Einzbern. But boy is it edgy. You won't be disappointed. The darkest anime of all time is clearly Carnival Phantasm. It has the combined darkness of Fate/ and Tsukihime plus an infidelity sideplot!! You see Berserker brutally murder all the other SN servants, Lancer suffering even more then in canon, and a more actively murderous grail! Practically unwatchably edgy. |
