Wish there was one where I live but we don't... though we do have a pretty good cat cafe which I've been to. xD Planning on visiting Japan sometime this year or next, will definitely visit one by then!

I know it's stupid, but I'd feel like way too much of a creep to go to one. I'm already awkward enough.

Ive been there alone plenty of times, lol...

That may be true, but I'm not you.
I really can't put my finger on why I'd be weirded out though. I mean, it's basically like a Japanese version of Hooters or Twin Peaks.

I would never, ever, go to a Maid Cafe with my family.

That would just be extremely awkward.

Guess I need to find some weeb friends .-.

I wouldn't, not my kind of thing. I would not enjoy it. If I was with a friend and we passed one, might try it out, but not gonna go directly to one.

Hmm..?

If you mean that you think it's absurd that I'd tip that much to a place like this, that's fine. I enjoy this establishment and I think it brings something positive to the community and the city. I feel the need to support it and keep it running for as long as possible.

The odds are stacked against you if they follow Japanese maid café rules ;)

I live near Akihabara and have been to my sheer of maid cafes. Every single one of them common rules, which includes no asking contact details.

Different purpose really. People don't go there to be sexually aroused. It's just a place with a happy and cute atmosphere you can chill and chat about otaku hobbies. Think of a mini-Disneyland for otakus. While the majority of the clients are 25-50 years old salarymen, you might be surprised to know that female clients aren't uncommon.

I don't want to break your hopes and dream, but I have a friend who works in a maid café (I knew her before she worked in one). Paraphrasing she said, most customers would probably be shocked and leave if they hear the conversations behind the scenes. It's not like they are bitchy, but while it's their job to be nice and cute to make the customers like them, but it's nothing more than a staff and customer relationship, and they do put on a "in-character persona".

Huh, it actually seems like something I'd enjoy, despite the awkwardness. And that cheese cake looks scrumptious.

Would really like to visit Toronto again. Lovely city, but didn't get to see that much while I was there.

They would get more money if they would make it into a strip club showing titties. I would pay more to see that.

I would like to go to a maid cafe and to a butler cafe as well. Looks like innocent fun mostly.

Don't talk to me about character development if Kaizuka Inaho or Slaine Troyard are in your favorites.

I've been to a maid cafe at an anime convention only. I played games with one maid and took a picture together with my favourite ones. Altogether a fun experience! But yeah I'd love to go to an actual maid cafe in Japan.

Seems like an intriguing idea. Wouldn't mind talking with one of the maids there either.

Started going 4 times a week again instead of the usual 3 since late august because of pokemon go hype! Most of my fav maids have already left and went back to Japan so that kind of sucks. But eh.

There's a lot of new faces working there. The food is still amazing, and I've recently started a small volunteer position for "onigiri channel" which is an affiliate for Uncle Tetsu.

@lonewolf I gotta take you back there sometime bro.

Yeah.

I work close to the cafe so me and a couple buddies go in the evening before we hit up izakaya bars or w.e.

I'll have to admit that it is pretty excessive, but then again I know a group that is there for 4 hours every single day.

It's pretty much a hobby. :D I like to go there with my pen lights and cheer the teams on. I've also gotten to know many of the amazing staff that work there. They like mixing it around with cosplay days and other amazing events! They were even at anime north this year, the venue was HUGE!

It's really interesting to watch them get better and better with their performances and there's always new performances being mixed into the equation so it's never repetitive. It's also a business that I enjoy, despite how niche it is and unstable the business model is. I've spoken to managers and employees and they all they the same thing. The returns on investment with this place isn't all that good, despite the cheesecake bakeries, and it's only a matter of time till they'll have to close down for good... :(

For now, I'll enjoy this place and make the best out of it. :) I don't mind blowing ~$100/week for this!

Not going to dispute it, but I've seen people who visit it 4 times a day (I can explain why/how if anyone care). I always take the view that as long as they are spending their own money and it makes them happy then it ain't my business to comment.

Wait, are you talking about the maid cafe I go to?

Also, I'm curious about your explanation why. Let's see if it's actually my situation! :D
