If they are "fun" and there is some kind of reward, then yeah I would say so.

The achievements in Portal 2 are just freakin hilarious, not to mention some of them have great reactions from the characters (smashing the TVs and hearing Wheatley complain about it). WoW can sometimes give you pets or other neat things for achievements, and Borderlands would give you an XP boost for getting some achievements. Starcraft II also gave things like a new portrait with various achievements you'd get.

As for a straight-up "Look at my room of trophies with no effect on the actual game whatsoever", it's kind of cheap and lazy way to coax more gameplay out of someone. Digital bragging rights are just sorta...meh to me. When it unlocks something in-game, then I find it intriguing.

Usually, I do. Most of them are relatively easy, for example, a major trophy in shooter games are headshots. Killing every enemy with a headshot is way more fun than random gunning. That's just my perspective. But no collectibles or story replays, fuck those.

No they don't correlate to skill they correlate to how much time you sink into a game doing stupid niche things or how many people you have to farm them with should their be versus achievements to earn. The only ones I get are the completion achievements, but that's not out of collecting them that's out of my liking to finish games. If I'm one away from completing the entire game I might go finish out the game just because. Mostly achievements create people who think they correlate to skill which then you find people that have boosted achievements that think they're good because they have X or Y achievement, but a lot of the time they're terrible at the game they've boosted to get the achievements on. Gears in particular comes to mind with the Horde achievements, you could earn with modifiers or leeching onto a group which most that had them did and were abysmal themselves or stomped off if they didn't get everything their way since that's the only way they could actually play the game usually in a way that cheesed the game.

At first not, but once I finish the original plot of the game, I go for the achievments as long as the game is good enough to invest more time in it.

Yes and no. I don't play for achievements, but I do like to go for all of them if it's a game I love. It gives the game an extra sense of longevity. Assassin's Creed II, for example, is one of my favorite games to get 100% on. It also adds an extra incentive to try other play styles or methods. I started a new Xbox profile and I'm finding it refreshing to be able to play old favorites again and see achievements pop-up when I make progress on them again.

Not usually. However, if there is a game I'm really into, I'd be more interested in trying to attain all the achievements to feel a sense of completion for that game.

I like to complete as much as I can, I've finished a few games 100% before although if I find some achievements too fucked up, I'll be happy with at least 90% completion.

Not at all. Just want to have fun completing the game.
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

Most are too fiddly or difficult or time consuming for my liking. Others rely too much on luck.

I like getting achievements but I don't go out of my way for ones that I consider too much effort.

Only if they're not completely stupid AND long, like needing to devote hours doing something that isn't fun at all.

I can enjoy difficult challenges, enjoy collecting stuff and exploring the map in detail to fin secret place and secrets for example, and I don't mind achievements that can be done with not so much time spent "on the way" of the normal course of play, but retarded challenges that go against any idea of fun and takes a long time to do on top of this are a big NO.
Why would anyone think it's good to have that type of achievement is beyond me.

But otherwise I don't.

Anyhow: Do you care about achievements in games?

Beyond "oh hey I guess there's this feature to check out", not really.

I do not challenge myself based on "oh there's an achievement", and I'm actually happy that I'm on a platform (Windows PC) that doesn't prioritize them that much, because I'd be more annoyed if it did.

Rather, I often come up with my own "achievements", such as "beat all the final bosses in a row without dying" even if the dev didn't make an achievement for it. More typically this has to do with my being a completionist -- I want to find all the log books, or fill the bestiary, or explore the entire map, or talk to all the NPCs, and so on.

So basically I ignore existing achievements and play however I want. If doing so unlocks existing achievements, cool. But I'm not going to waste time beating up 5000 goblins for an achievement, or playing through insane super hell difficulty when I don't feel like doing so.

I'm actually neutral between care and don't care at all but, the majority of my gaming experiences, I usually care more about achievements because you got a goal of what you gonna do in the game and you feel that you've earn it and you should feel proud of it for what you've get. It will be the most satisfying experience to get :D

I just assume everyone went uheuhe achievements suck etc, they are a trend, but like everything else in a game they could be used in some clever way and some games probably went there regardless of completion/boring boringness.

Atm I'm moving for more solo type of games and probably get back to playing on a 3ds as it is more fun and less stressful.

I always try to 100% a game if I can - it's really fun and satisfying. It dependens if the game has multiplayer achievements or impossibly frustrating achievements - fuck that. If they do, I complete the ones I can and leave rest of the achievements unfinished.

Well me and my friends started a stupid competition years ago who could get the most achievements on xbox 360 ,,,,I won =P years later I dont care as much but I try to build my count everyday if I got time =P My goal is to reach 1 million points before I die =P almost halfway there

But it have to be fun also .Not going for achievement points if its going to be too big of a hassle, and take away the enjoyment of the game!

I personally don't care about achievements, but I find it pointless to complain about an optional feature in games. If getting achievements was required to beat the game, then I'd have issues with them. But nothing about achievements is like "Ok buddy, you have to achieve 'x' in order to beat our game"

I personally don't care for the trophies/achievements that are artificially made by developers. I do, however, like to make my own challenges. When I used to actively play Borderlands 2, I would frequently do playthrough limiting myself to just white gear (which is the lowest tier in Borderlands) or do something else that would restrict my gameplay in a fun way. For example, people who do no death or no hit runs in Souls series, that's an excellent achievement that requires immense skill and knowledge of the game. Compare that to "collect 30 of these things in that area" kind of achievements made by developers and you will see that a lot of these pre-made achievements are neither fun nor challenging.

The only games I've strived to get all the achievements in was for MW2/MW3 getting all the weapons titles on the xbox 360. But modders ruined the whole thing and I ended up being reset/boosted a million times over and lost all my progress constantly. Shame really.
