Interested in watching for the first time. What should i watch first?

I'm interested in watching Evangelion and I'm trying to choose between either getting the Platinum Box set or the 3 movies (1.11, 2.22, 3.33.)

I've read some of the reviews saying the movies are pretty good at streamlining everything and the remastered art is beautiful but I'm just worried that there might be some important stuff that gets cut out or the character development is too rushed.

Please let me know what you think.

I'll leave a reply for future reference.

You can go either way. At this point rebuilds don't really address NGE problems as far as story goes (it's just as mind-boggling as original) and it's just a different take on the same plot with better visuals and epic OST. Some changes were made but NGE is a concept driven (rather than character driven) work so I don't think you'll really miss anything. Hardcore fans will probably have a different opinion on this but from a casual viewer perspective that's basically it.
