Mobile suit gundam

Due to the seemingly infinite amount of gundam there is i have no idea which one it starts on can anyone help me out?

There are several "timeline". Universal Century being the first and most expansive of them all. UC starts with the original gundam anime called "mobile suit gundam". The second main series is "z gundam" and third is "zz gundam". However, it takes a lot of time and patience if you want to get in deep with UC. I suggest new comer to the series start with the less expansive timeline. Gundam 00 is the only series in the AD timeline and it is pretty good. TL/DR: the timelines are separate so you can focus on just one to start.

So i can basically start one of these time periods and not feel like im missing somthing big in the previous

if you want to start with Universal Century and watch the first gundam
and if you want to save your time i suggest you to just watch the three
summary movies rather than the series .

Watch Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 -> Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team -> Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 -> Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 -> Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam -> Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack -> Gundam Unicorn. The other series of the UC timeline are quite forgettable in my opinion.

Outside of the UC timeline there are Gundam 00 or Turn A Gundam that are not bad.

Gundam Wing has the best mobile suits and the most diverse characters in my opinion. The protagonist is a certified bad ass. It has a pretty politically centered story line, so if you are just looking for flashes and action then it might not be for you.
Having said that, when the fighting does happen, it gets really good. Last but not least, it probably has one of the best soundtracks for a gundam

Mobile Fighter G Gundam is the best. It is a little rediculous at times. Actually it is terrible. Very terrible. With all that being said, I honestly like it.

Just watch the original first. I had no regrets. It's a fine anime, neither should you.

A good friend of mine recomend Turn AGundam. It's a good start for people who are not into mechas but like slice of life or political stuff.
