So I own a Chromecast and sometimes watch anime on my TV. One night I was finishing off the last few episodes of Fate Zero and my dad comes out and begins to watch it with me. In 1 or 2 episodes he gets into it, after me explaining to him what had already happened so far. A few days later I Chromecast episode 1 of Fate Stay/Night UBW and my dad comes out and begins to watch it with me. We're 5 episodes in now and he is just as into the show as I am and is always asking questions and trying to figure out what's going on/what's going to happen.

Granted, the Fate series is pretty good in my opinion. The animation is superb along with the characters and story. He probably would not watch a show like Working!! with me.

Does anyone else watch anime with their parents?

In my case its my mother. I give her the basic description of an anime then she says if she is interested or not? If yes then we watch. A bit strange though.

The only anime I've watched with either of my parents and actually got them to like it was Tsumiki no Ie which I watched with my mom. My dad said that he liked Spirited Away which we watched together when I was a kid. I tried to get them to watch Yama no Susume, but they didn't really like it. I know that neither of them would like ecchi and they also don't seem to like kiddy stuff like battle shounen or mahou shoujo so things like Ghibli films are my main option for what they would like. They might like mature anime like Bartender or Usagi Drop.

My friend, her sister & their mother actually all watch anime together.

My parents? LOL. I think the only show my mother watched at one point was DBZ, she got quite into it. My father is a petrol-head, hates anything animated other than Minions and Wall-E.

My mom tried watching anime with me because she wanted to "bond" with me when I used to watch it 24/7. I showed her Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto, but she didn't like either of them. She has seen all the Studio Ghibli films and we own them all! My dad actually likes Cowboy Bebop, but other than that anime's a no go for both of them.

My father isn't really into animated shows or movies (maybe because he had to sit through so many Disney movies when I was small; I'm not really sure), but my mom kind of got into Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and is a lot more tolerant of anime in general.

I don't actually and it's not something I'd do in the future. I think it is more relaxing when I watch alone plus there are themes I'm a fan of that my parents probably wouldn't be interested in.

I am the parent.

My usual recommendation is to try and select shows with mature themes like these:
Bartender
Hataraki Man
Otona Joshi no Anime Time
Monster
Ristorante Paradiso
Uchuu Kyoudai ("Space Brothers")
Baccano!
Kiseijuu ("Parasyte")
Sarai-ya Goyou ("House of Five Leaves")
Nodame Cantabile
Shinsekai yori

Here's my list if you want some other suggestions: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/SeijiSensei?status=7&order=4

I usually don't watch with my parents, but there was one time I was watching Skip Beat with my friends in the living room and Momma got into it so that we'd wait for her to watch the next episodes.

I'm pretty sure I could get my parents into it, but, eh, I've never really tried beyond them accepting that I love anime.

Tried watching with parents, single-handedly was one of the worst times ever...

Learned about anime from my parents so I find myself watching anime with them time to time. My mother seems to rather enjoy Hetalia -- which I had introduced to her a while ago -- and she doesn't complain when I put it on. I don't watch the gory things with my parents though, such as Tokyo Ghoul, or Attack On Titan. It's just awkward watching that stuff with them.

I showed my sister and mum Madoka Magica and Chihayafuru (two of my favourite anime) and they loved them! I dont watch anime with my family all too often, but I do occasionally when I feel in the mood for it.

I guess we still gotta find some Anime we can watch together ^^

I watched the first DVD of Ghost Stories with my dad. He thought it was hilarious, though he now knows that I know what a casting couch is, so...yeah.

My little sister loves Persona 4 for some weird reason. I'm pretty sure she's a fujoshi in the making because she gets serious butterflies whenever Teddie shows up.

Try to watch with them usagi drop anime first. Then slowly you should make them read then usagi drop manga. Trust me, you will strike gold.

My mom shows no interest in watching with me (never has even as a kid) My step dad was into the Hellsing series but that's it. and my dad watched the anime that used to be on adult swim (like Inuyasha) with me when I was like 12.

My mom is too busy watching random foreign films and reading novels to do anything else for entertainment. She doesn't watch tv and she doesn't watch Hollywood movies. I have never been able to have a talk with my dad about entertainment unless we sit down, have a few drinks and shit on whatever movie we're watching. Neither of them would ever give animation a chance, especially my dad and I'm definitely not willing to sit down with him and show him something I like because I know he will rip on me like the absolute troll he is.

I'm jealous of you. I began explaining to my parents what the premise of anime is by giving them examples of popular ones like Death Note and they went from believing it's "shitty cartoons like Yu gioh" to "Those Japanese are sick in their heads for thinking up something like that". I recently lent my mom the first volume of TG however. I hope she likes it.

I'm not watching it with my dad. Eveeeer. Noooope. It's like my music. It can be heard slightly, but not seen fully. That is how I like it, and how I plan to keep it.

Nope, I would never do that.

It would feel awkward as hell when there are ecchi scenes appearing...no matter how small it is.

My mom watched Pokemon with me when I was a kid.

My sister did put on an episode of Psycho-Pass with my mom and dad around once and I think my dad kinda liked it.

My sister has watched a few Ghibli movies with my mom, she though most of them were okay.

Sounds like a dumb idea honestly since most anime isn't very PG-13.

Idk, just wouldn't bother, not like im missing anything not showing them.

OH GOD NO! I would never watch anime with my parents around, too embarrassing. Every little sound can be taken sexual and yeah ive had bad experiences where they walk into my room and think im watching porn cause the female character got hurt and her pain sound sounds alot like her orgasm sound would. the only anime ive ever seen with my dad i guess is the really really main stream dragon ball,z,gt,etc.

I am sure it would be an uncomfortable experience for all parties involved. I probably wouldn't watch anime with my friends, let alone my parents.

Naw my dad thinks I'm crazy and it's a waste of time whereas my brother and sister are supportive but don't actually watch it themselves. I tried to introduce them to one that they maybe would like but, they peacefully refused xD

We've pretty much seen all ghibli films together. Also saw AoT, Doraemon movies, yugioh GX, and precure 5 as well. Our family is Japanese, so no surprise

I also use Chromecast to watch anime on the TV screen. Many times my parents happen to be in the living room at the same time, so they get to see a lot of random episodes... anime with ecchi as genre I watch by myself( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

but intentionally my father and I have watched together:

- Naruto (minus the fillers)
- Naruto Shippuden (again, minus the fillers)
- One Punch Man. He actually asked when can we watch the next season ;___;
- first episodes of Tokyo Ghoul and Attack on Titan

my mom likes Studio Ghibli movies so we watch them... 11 movies so far I think.

No no no no. They will only roast me, and ask me "do you still watch cartoon?" While laughing.
It doesn't have to be a full anime, a small piece depiction of animation will be comment like that. Even if it was a picture.

Suggesting a show for my mom to watch is ok. But actually watching it with her? That'd be too awkward.
