As the title suggested, I am looking for a post-apocalyptic anime where the MC (or group) have to fight to survive. Any suggestions/recommendations would be helpful.

Some examples that I have seen are:
Shi Xiong
11eyes
Highschool of the Dead
Attack on Titan

Code;Geass

Redline (Movie)

Deadman Wonderland

Guilty Crown

Log Horizon (Sort of)

Your best bet would be Code;Geass to start it's amazing! A lot like the characters of Death Note.

Shinsekai Yori is nice too. I think people don't think of it right away when you ask for a post-apocalyptical anime because the focus is not exactly the world after the mass destruction event. The world is actually beautifully portrayed, and it seems even more impressive than before. The main subject of that show is actually how society was reorganized after it . So, give it a shot =D

Note : The main group of this show doesn't actually fight to survive (since they were born more than 2 centuries after the occurrence) but they struggle to find the truth behind the society they were born into.

It's sad, but there's not many series with post-apocalyptic setting (I also like it~). From what you haven't watched there's
- Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi
- Zetsuen no Tempest
- No.6

Check out Bokurano too.

being post-apocalyptic is kind of spoiler for some series but anyway:

God Eater - post-apocalyptic, survival
Neon Genesis Evangelion - post-apocalyptic, survival, apocalypse near ending
Ergo Proxy - post-apocalyptic, survival
No.6 - post-apocalyptic, survival, yaoi
Shinsekai yori - post-apocalyptic, survival theme near ending
Suisei no Gargantia - post-apocalyptic, survival theme near ending
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - post-apocalyptic, survival

No one has mentioned Texhnolyzed yet? That's a perfect example, although it's too slow for most people, if you have the patience it's an amazing series.

++++ to Shinsekai Yori and Parasyte

Also:
Steins Gate
Ergo Proxy
Death Parade (a "survival" game, but not exactly along the lines of what you're thinking)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (hard to explain this one without giving the plot away)

Try Appleseed Alpha it's animated using CGI but that doesn't stop it from being good though.

Also check out Blue Gender AOT done right.
