Anime Guild - Winter 2018 Review Event

It's the year 2018 now and somehow this thing is still running? Okay then.

If you have not participated in the Review Event before, it is basically an attempt at a combined club effort at reviewing as much as possible of the season's new anime together. All you need to do if you are interested in participating is to write a review (or several, there is no limit) for any of the seasonal shows and PM them to me either on MAL or Discord before the submission deadline, which for this season is the end of the month (March 31st), though this might be delayed a day or two if I deem it necessary later on, so you've got almost 3 more weeks to work with at the time of writing this. I will then publish a compilation of all the submissions at the end of the season. There are also no specifications regarding how you are supposed to write your review(s), it is all up to you.

You do not need to announce ahead of time what shows you are planning to review. However, if you want me to send out reminders to you in the coming weeks before the deadline, you'll need to at least say that you want to participate in this thread so that I know to add you to the list of people which I will send out reminders to later. Even if you don't sign up though, you're still welcome to submit reviews to me, providing that you can remember the deadline on your own.

As far as what series are eligible for the event, any anime that ends sometime during the Winter 2018 season is allowed. This also includes OVAs, specials, Fall leftovers etcetera, even hentai if you want. But on the flipside, any series that do not end during this season are not permitted (so for example Darling in the FranXX will not be accepted since it ends in the Spring season rather than this one, but it will be eligible in next season's event instead). I have also decided to disallow all preview submissions (or "preliminary reviews" as they're called now) since they do not quite fulfill the purpose of a review. If you just want to share your thoughts of currently ongoing shows, I would rather direct you to the club's seasonal discussion thread(s) or our Discord server instead.

As usual, I'm just gonna take the liberty to tag some recent-ish previous participants who may hopefully be willing to play along once more, though of course I'd love to see some new faces as well ^^

Well... last episodes of Violet Evergarden have inspired me a little bit. I hope that inspiration can also come with some others :D

Will be doing reviews for completing shows by March 31st. Guess that slims down my options I suppose.

Here are the shows I will review if they end on or before March 31st

1. Dagashi Kashi
2. Death March
3. Fate Extra (if it ends up being 12 eps)
4. Violet Evergarden
5. Karakai Jouzo no Takagi San (if I have the energy and control to not destroy my tablet when catching up to this literal piece of s**t, prepare for a semi-rant review in case I do catch up to this. How will I do a semi rant review? Here's an example

I won't write anything this season for personal reasons, even though I do have some strong opinions on certain shows... oh well I can always Caps Lock in discord

I'll actually write a review this time, after a long time. I've already got Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san's ready, and I'm planning to write one for 3-gatsu no Lion, too. If I have enough time, I might write one for Violet Evergarden, as well.

Doesn't seem like there's a huge amount of interest this time around but for those of you who signed up at least, here's a generic reminder that the deadline for submissions to the review event is quickly approaching as the season is coming to a close. I've decided to let it run until the end on Sunday April 1st, so if you're planning on submitting anything, either post it in this thread or PM it to me on MAL or Discord before then, thanks~

Sounds like we won't be able to submit Violet Evergarden reviews then, since it'll end after April 1st. Unless we are allowed to send those later.

@HaXXspetten I don't know about the deadline but I'll definitely send reviews as the anime finish. Violet Evergarden for example will be sent here right when it ends. So don't worry, I'm posting reviews ^_^

Yeah VE ends later but I don’t want to delay everything just for that. You can send those reviews in when the show ends and I’ll edit them into the thread then

I reviewed "Love Is Like After The Rain." These things happen when I have both the motivation and a good initial idea of what to write, so there's never any telling when it'll happen.

@HaXXspetten - Sorry this completely slipped my mind :( I won't have time to review anything before Sunday cause I'm working this weekend so can't catch up on episodes. But I'll definitely try participate in the next one!

I recently wrote my first anime review on Sukitte li na yo.

If you have any critics and stuff to help me improve, I'd gladly take it.
I also did a review on a manga that you can read and make a feedback too if you are interested.

I'll be writing a review for Happy Sugar Life this season so if this review event continues that will be my first participation (tho I also wrote reviews for each of the last 2 seasons).

Probably not, there were so many things to do once the club came back after MAL's downtime that we didn't want to overload the club with too many events at once, and relatively speaking this one is quite low priority. So me and Hibbs agreed to leave this for a while. Could maybe bring it back in the future though, we'll see

Might be held by someone else if/when it comes back though as I don't know how long I'll remain an admin of this club, but that's for the future to decide

Ooh that's bad :( Hope I see you continuing the club, and if you're not admin, it's alright too coz we can talk on TAC and the AG Discord ;)

I guess this event is discontinued but here is my review for Summer 2018 anyway. https://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=290284

Funny I managed to write a review for all 3 seasons so far this year but never got to participate in this event.

lol dammit Ando I thought I was gonna be the first one to try to revive the thread this year

OPM 2 is the suck
"Anti-elitists" are the true elitists of this community. They're the kind of people that remind me that the elitist stereotype they perpetuate basically doesn't exist, and those who use it to scapegoat embody practically every trait they put into the stereotype, as they sit in their ivory tower looking down at and attacking people they disagree with because they're being negative on a show they like, and their favorites list is comprised of at least one non-mainstream classic, all the while cowering at the idea of those people giving them a taste of their own medicine. Also, objectivity in art is relative, therefore arguable, not nonexistent.
