Whether you were persuaded by your friends or the ratings were just really high, have you ever forced yourself to finish a series even though you didn't like it? or you wanted to see how it would end?

Ye. Always regret it.

It's rare though, usually has to be a 12 episode one or else I'll almost always drop it.

Why the in gods name would anyone bother with a series if they're forcing themselves to finish it. If I'm not enjoying it in some merit then drop the shit. It's not my job to become a professional weeb.

There were more instances where I finished a series and wished I hadn't.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

HXH Is the only series I recall forcing myself through In recent memory, mostly due to the god awful Chimera ant arc.

Yes. Since I'm a critic and reviewer, I force myself to watch shows that I know I won't enjoy just for the sake of reviewing and rating. I'm forcing myself to watch Cromartie High School right now. I just don't find it funny.

Nisekoi and corpse party. God someone give me a medal, especially for the latter. Nisekoi was alright but for some reason I really did not want to watch it, but I feel extreme guilt when I don't finish an anime.

I know that feel, bro. The manga is already hard to read and the anime was even harder.

I have a 3-4 episode rule...If I still don't like the show after 3-4 episodes then I drop that anime. There are cases where I would immediately drop the show after the first episode because that first episode pissed me off so much.

Forced myself? There are a few anime where I forced myself to finish the goddamn show. To this day, I can't remember why I tortured myself to do that shit.

Not even some recap movies? (Or maybe you don't watch them)
Personally I've only ever dropped AnoHana's recap because they kept going over the same scenes with a different person's perspective.

Endless Eight was hard to watch (though I managed to watch the first 6 and the concluding episode of it. Nightmare.)

Still a fun watch for the rest of it though.

Anyway, for stuff I forced myself to finish:
- Hidan no Aria AA, because I wanted to see if it could redeem itself. All that did was made me rate it one point higher than I would have had I dropped it.
- Toaru Majutsu no Index II, because it was becoming a pain to watch too many characters added within a few episodes. Kinda glad I did because Accelerator had good development.
- Shinsekai Yori, because near the end, it seemed like it wasn't able to finish on a good note. I was sort of right though. That was bittersweet but worth it.

Stuff I'm forcing myself to finish:
- Lance n' Masques, because I'm already 10 episodes in and want to use it as reference for bad anime to avoid in the future.

I think the reason people force themselves to finish stuff is closure, especially if they're about 3/5 through the whole thing. It just feels like you wasted a ton of time when you don't know how something ends.

Just Air and Clannad. After those experiences I pretty much learned to drop shows that are either awful or boring and which also do not have at least one or two cute/interesting characters to carry it.

If a show does have such a character then I'll put it on hold. Eg. Honey and Clover has Hagu, NHK has Misaki so eventually I'll get around to resuming those two shows.

Endless Eight I watched all of it because I was morbidly curious to see just how cynical and low the studio could get with that. On re-watches I just do the 1st and last episode.

A few times, usually if I give up on a show it happens within the first 3-4 episodes and then it gets to the point where I'll see it through to the end as long as it's only 1 or 2 cour.

yeah, pretty much, it's why I don't have anything completed that's under a 4. Well, except Expelled from Paradise, but that's only like an hour and a half long.

To be honest, Cowboy Bebop's pacing is bad in my opinion. Had to force myself to watch a few, random episodes here and there. And I forced myself through 7 episodes of Darker Than Black until finally dropping it. I have no idea what people see in that show.

Yeah, if I only watched shows that I would like. I wouldn't have a very interesting list. I would just have a bunch of 7-10s on my ratings. Gotta average it out showcase my preference clearly with anime. I also like to warn people away from certain shows. By watching them I can full recommend, or not recommend as a time waster.
Brace yourself.

Soon as LotGH 2017 comes out. The anime community is going to become so cancerous you will need to take cover and hide.

Yes. Whether it's my morbid curiosity or whatever, I watch an anime all the way though, no matter how bad it is. Though there are times that I regret watching them in first place. Pupa being one example.

A lot of people seem to be confused of this. Forcing myself to finish something is something that i have even more so for movies, propably because the suffering would end after 90 minutes anyway unlike a series.
It has nothing to do for masochism to me, it would be masochism not to finish them (in most cases). Leaving something unfinished just gives me this ocd-ish unfullfillment that would bother me more than finishing the series.

Also it is possible that movie that you dont enjoy might get bettter at some point or even get tremendously better at the end.
For example i recently watched La Haine and almost closed it somewhere in the middle because i generally dislike movies about criminals. But the ending of the movie gave me a 180° turn. Great movie with a great ending that i would have missed if i had dropped it.

For anime series, Ano natsu de matteru was are chore for me to finish. It was just so boring and except 2 or 3 characters i disliked the rest of the cast.
Those characters kept me watching, but in the end this is sadly an example i should have dropped because it didnt get better, only worse

I could never leave things half-finished. It's a policy. I mean I sat through all seasons of Zero no Tsukaima for no reasons. It was painful.

Except for Naruto Shippuden. I can't do anything with it.
