WOW, OPM's first volume beat a new AOT volume. I'm shocked.

We all knew Tokyo Ghoul would take first place, but damn where is Gundam the Origin and Kizumonogatari? :(

I hope to see them next week, along with Planetes.

And the snk first volume, which has been on the list for 2 years going 3, is beating out all those newely release volumes of opm and Tokyo ghoul. One punch man is the hype thing right now, and the anime just end last week, its not really a shocker that a lot of people would be jumping to start reading the manga after the hype anime ends. Hence the increase in volume 1 sales.

Anyways, AoT volume 1 which is @#5 just shows you how insignificant the sales really are, after finding out the actual sales in the US my interest went down. Japan is where the real shit is at when it comes to manga sales.

The nr 1 spot maybe sells 1 or 2 K at best, the nr 10 spot must sell 400 copies or so XD
These series have staying power.

It seems like the newer a volume is, the less it sells. An early volume of BnHA also topped the most recent volumes of OP and Bleach sometime ago. For my part, I'm rather surprised that OPM vol.1 & 2 topped the older volumes of TG since they should have been bosted by the most recent volum's release.

This list makes it clear that, in the absence of an anime, vol.1 of AoT sells more in a year than all the other volumes of AoT released that year, combined.

Only the series @1 sells between 1k to 2k. Which is pretty low. If you find those as impressive sales, then I feel sorry for you.

No, I thought English manga wasn't that popular with people, considering it can be read online by many.

How do you know it's only #1? I'm pretty sure the Top 3 of this week sold that much given their caliber.
And 1-2k is pretty much what we most often get in the Japanese Bluray/DVD sales thread for most series' volumes (as their overall sales even, rather than the weekly ones) and people are impressed by those so I don't see the difference here.

actually no if u look at the list its targeted to almost the same audience

if you look at the list for jap sales you will see so many different types of genres and themes being displayed. this is a clear case of the american market having no diversity. as per the definition says.

i personally can care less since i import stuff from japan so the american manga market isnt an issue for me but the lack of diversity shows as clear as night and day.

So how much copies does TG volume 1 sold till now? It has been in the list for 27-28 weeks. So around 30k I guess. If 1 american copy is 13.5$ then until now it probably has sold around 90k equivalent of Japanese copy( Assuming 1 Japanese copy= 4.5$) excluding Kindle edition. Not that bad actually considering a niche market.

Maybe because not that many genres even get licensed sadly.

Imagine hollywood hiring a bunch of unexperience kids to make a star wars or lord of the ring movie. What you get in the end is a school project film. Low budget shitfest. That's how studio perriot handled Tokyo ghoul. That's why everyone crave for a remake.

I personally love the shit out of it, though I can see why some people don't like it...also the first 3-4 volumes of the story is a bit slow, at the very least I think it's worth a try :)

The numbers would be pretty disappointing. US manga sales usually aren't even on par with unpopular manga sales in Japan...
