In this thread: People complaining that a director is specializing in a genre which they don't like.

Next time I should tell Tomino to stop making Gundam for once and make some slice of life harem comedy.

I hope it's not awfully cringeworthy like Kotonoha no niwa, though the synopsis makes seem like it might be :l

That scenery. That music.

"I don't remember my dreams but I know I was searching for someone and it started all on that day where stars rained down"? Seems cheesy but I like it.

But, but it's my favorite cartoon and it's deep and smart, and...and...Stop!

For real, looking foward for this one, 5 Wallpapers per Second had a bittersweet ending that I wanted to forget, but The Garden Of Words was REALLY good, his art is also fantastic.

I didn't even need to look at the director to know who did this. The formula is still alive and swell

Don't mind him but his movies need to be more than an hour, I'm not satisfied of 40 min of content to be deemed as a movie

EVERY FUCKING TIME.
Kotonoha is by far the worst of his works, it's uninspired, weak and doesn't excel in anything besides rain-porn, but somehow it became the MAL mainstream favorite and now seems like it's everything this guy has ever done.
Holy shit how I hate this community.

Oh boy, don't even get me started on that.

He's the only person capable of making an anime I would rate higher than 5 centimeters per second.

Whether I find it better or not I know he won't disappoint me!

There's no denying the attention to detail and stunning animation Shinkai puts out, but the plot seems kind of bland.

And what's with the casting? Why didn't they cast experienced voice actors/actresses?

We're assured of beyond-gorgeous animation since it's Shinkai. The story, judging from the trailer, looks promising. I'll save whatever criticisms I have for it after watching it.

Definitely looking forward to it!

I'll have to disagree this time. I understand that you hate that movie, but if you think there was nothign else than pretty pictures on it, then you completely missed all the hidden messages, references, metaphor, and everything else that this movie was having all along.
Which isn't surprising since it's pretty much Japanese-only in the way it's made. It's very difficult for a westerner to catch on all of this honestly.
But still, you could tone down on this anime because clearly, your hate is heavily misplaced. Before being pretty animation, that movie was a love poem, and it's done very smartly.

So very excited! Loved 5 cm per Second and Garden of Words, and this seems to be a story in the same vein fortunately. Children who Chase Lost Voices was OK, but didn't catch me as much as Shinkai's more realistic dramas.

2nd Trailer. It looks really nice!

Here's a dialog translation from reddit
M: That day, the day the stars fell, it was like...

F: It was like the landscape from a dream

F+M: It was a beautiful scene

M: After school?! Sorry, I have to work today

F: I'm tired of living in boonies, I'm sick of this lifestyle.

Please make me a hot tokyo guy in the next life!

M: Huh? Where?

F: Now that you mention it, it feels like I'm always having this weird dream, is it a dream of someone else's life?

M: What's this?

F+M: Is this? Could it be? We're switching places in our dreams?!

F: One thing's certain... If we could meet, we'd understand immediately.

M: No matter where you are in the world, I'll definitely meet you!

F: Who are you?

M: Who are you?

Sounds and looks a bit too similar to 5cm/s

But it's Makoto Shinkai so it's a must watch.
