The title

Recently I watched Manyuu Hickenchou, thinking it was going to be weird ecchi with a story that's trying too hard, like Seikon no Qwaser. However it wasn't, it had really funny moments, the ecchi was nice (if a little weird at some parts), the story never felt forced, and I loved the Edo period backdrop.

Because of how often anime disappoint me I've started having very low expectations. Because of this pretty much all of the anime I like fall into this category. I liked Elfen Lied more than I thought I would, but I liked it in the same way you would like Another or Mars of Destruction. When I put Ore Twintails on my ptw I was expecting it to be stupid yet enjoyable and that's exactly what I got. It feels like it should be a good example since I thought it would be stupid and I ended up really liking it, but that was what I was expecting. Most of my favourites are good examples.

Ushio to Tora. Only started it because Ayahi was in it (in a very small role) but it's one of my favourites of the year. Not something I normally would watch at all, but it's really good.

Ouran, when my friend first suggested I just laughed and said NO. But after the 4th time it popped up on netflix so figured...Im out of anime why not. Really enjoyed it, mostly for Mori, who I thought got screwed a bit in the series but still really good. Also MorixHaruhi

Free!. Avoided it because of all the gay-prejudices and eventually curiosity got over me. I should've watched it sooner.

Another one would be Initial D. I'm really not into cars and just started watching it for shits and giggles, just to be like "Hey, this is actually quite awesome!"
I'm feeling thank you

From the current season, Itoshi no Muco.

So it's a show about a dog. So what? Most stories with animals as main characters completely destroy my suspension of disbelief and are in no way enjoyable. Indeed, having an animal as a side character more often than not is enough to damage the show irrevocably for me.

But, no. That thing is genuinely hilarious. Most of the time. And no suspension of disbelief needed at all either.

I was sure Attack on Titan would be a load of grimdark bullshit. I checked it only because it's popular. It didn't look interesting at all. It turned out to be fantastic.

Free is a good example. KyoAni were in a bit of a rut so I thought it would just be boring generic fujoshi bait but it was actually kind of campy and fun.

Same goes for Love Live. I went into Season 1 thinking it would be a bit of mindless fun so I was surprised at how well written (Most of) the drama was. And even though I loved Season 1 and I was excited for it, I definitely did not expect Season 2 to be as good as it was. Though my expectations were ridiculously high for the movie so I wasn't the least bit surprised by the fact that it was absolutely fantastic.

Actually a lot of my favourite shows (K-On!, Madoka, Kino's Journey, Cardcaptor Sakura) are shows I went into with almost no expectations.

Assassination Classroom.

I put it off for months because I dunno, I read a quick description of it and it just seemed really childish. Not in a bad way, but like it came across to me as something designed for 8 year olds to watch.

Gave it a try after I saw a funny screenshot of it, and boy was I surprised. Turned out to be fantastic.

Also, Kill la Kill. I put that off for even longer than I did AssClass.

Madoka Magica is the best sports anime. The teamwork was amazing and I almost thought the other team was going to win in the end. It's a shame that they lost one of their best players near the beginning of the season.

Shokugeki no Souma.

I thought this was gonna be the usual cliche ecchi anime where the guy is surrounded by girls that cooks. After seeing the first episode when it aired, I put it on-hold for a little while. Around when episode 14 aired and the fanbase getting bigger, I thought I'd continue to see how it goes. Since then, I've been attached and it is now in my top 5 favourites. This anime changed me jfc

For me,The anime Toradora...At first.I thought that it was just an anime involving their attempts to get their crushes and vice versa...But as the story progresses,I find myself enjoying the anime and admiring one of the scenes where they value friendship and sacrifice.....At the final episode,I find myself crying cuz I want more....

Lol,I really didn't expect I'm gonna enjoy the show ^^

Oregairu surprised me with how good it was and how real its characters felt (for the most part). AssClass surprised me because I never expected it to be a show I'd consider among the best of its year.

I really do underestimate anime by the genre a lot. I often chose genre that suits my taste so I never intended to try other. Tokyo ghoul was one, thought it was all gorey and just no plot going, killing everyone. It actually became my fav anime. So did steins gate, I think it was a masterpiece, though I didn't really like Time travelling stuff, and was kinda sick of em. But after I watched it, I really have to clap for it. and many other more, Shakugan no shana too.... it was a quite old anime, but turns out to be one of my fav.

Mirai Nikki. Prople make it out to be a meme show, it's actually decent though. Great character designs. I heard it gets stupid though.
