So I read this article, apparently Lord Gaben has declared a change in the way sales are done on steam:

games will just be at their lowest prices for the duration of the sale. No daily deals or flash sales, whatsoever. After rumblings that Valve will be changing the way it conducts Steam sales for the upcoming autumn and winter sales, Eurogamer confirmed it by way of a notice Valve sent out to Steam developers and publishers:

“We’ll still be highlighting your top games on the front page for 24-48 hour spans, but those products will stay at their most competitive discount, before and after being featured.”

Is it for better or Worse?
Now instead of me slowly burning my months of savings we can now blow our entire banks at once...

Though I don't know if they will do he usual sell a game at 20% off, then 3 days later jump it down to 60% off, then usually the last day it drops even more 75% - 90% off on some games, though it will stay at the lowest throughout they may slowly decrease certain games rather than a ffa of sales all at once on everything...

I like it. Now I don't have to check Steam every 8 hours to see if my wishlisted game is on sale.

No more people feeling pressured to buy a flash deal game they normally wouldn't buy because it's a "limited time sale".

ehhh damn this kinda means I wont be able to find something at a ridiculously cheap price because companies will hesitate to do it for more than 8 hours.

Best news i've heard all day i was fed up making sure to get up out of bed in time and to stay up really late not to miss any flash sales as that is annoying AF.

No idea how Steam Sales works.

I'm only interested in two games anyways, and they would be Sub Rosa and Squad.

It's a bit of a bummer. Kinda removes half the fun of the sale.

And will this lead to a slightly deeper discount on the games in general, or just no super neat discounts overall?

If I can get the games at flash sale prices, then sure, you know. But the regular sale price is usually idk... I've bought a lot of games on flash sales that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Yeah some companies my be apprehensive about putting at a game at 50% off for a week compared with 50% off a few hours, so we may see a drop in more expensive games £20+ getting good discounts like 50% - 75% off like we have seen in the past...

its to stop people from buying games
then immediately refunding them to repurchase when they suddenly go on sale or get a bigger discount

never really cared about them anyways. at least it'll stop me from being hesitant to purchase something, expecting that it may go for lower.

even though half the flash sales were junk, losing the dailies kinda sucks. I would expect more shallow discounts.

This is good, provided they actually do the price of the lowest theoretical flash sale for each game.

This inevitably means less discounts. I knew they would backpedal on their traditions sooner or later, actually it has happened for the past 2 sales already.

I'll let my wishlist get fat, I have too many games already to care about something that isn't at least 75%.

I don't really keep much of a wishlist and rarely login so I guess the sales are dead to me.

Not really, the discount won't be as high as before. There is a difference between deciding if you want your game to be at a bargain price for 8 hours and if you want your game to be at a bargain price for 21 times that. The people who will buy it during those 8 hours will advertise it to their friends who will in turn buy the game for the "fair" price. Steam removed that, so the discounts will be mediocre.

I think it's a good thing, I would screw up my sleep cycle because of the flash deals were on for only 8 hrs if I remember correctly.
