| Anime means animation in Japanese. Cartoon is another word for animation. Anime are cartoons, we just call them anime when specifically referring to Japanese cartoons, it's not really worth arguing about. |

Think it's more like, people calling soft drinks "pop" or "soda" or people calling death metal "screamo" it's mildly annoying, but you knew what they meant. If people call anime cartoons I don't think it's worth it to try and correct them. |
| When people think about cartoon, they think about kiddy stuff so when people call their favourite anime cartoon, its like telling the anime is for kid. Maybe, they should use the term adult cartoon? But then it will refer to completely different thing when they search on Google.. |
