Well concerning a lot of the popular music it's terrible but when you do a bit of searching around amazing artists can be found.

I guess it's as good as it's always been. I've enjoyed a lot of albums from this year. August Burns Red, Entrails, 36 Crazyfists, Thy Art is Murder, Carly Rae Jepsen (surprisingly good), While She Sleeps, xRepentancex, The Ongoing Concept, Shibo, Soilwork (probably even tops Natural Born Chaos), Courntey Barnett, Cut Up, Infected Mushroom, Shahmen, Silkie, Four Year Strong, Spor, Rudimental, Amorphis, Children of Bodom, Madeon, Phace, Instant Remedy, Sylosis (easily AOTY for me) all put out great albums in 2015. I'm sure there are still an assload of great albums I haven't heard from this year.

The volume wars is a problem. itunes takes too much money away from music artists.

Thats only legitimate criticism that stands up. All the other shit "boo hoo its not what it used to be"is just people that have not really listened to much music or have narrow tastes.

It's a lot that I don't listen to popular music through radio or stuff like that, so I'm not really aware of what goes hard these days, but from what I hear thorugh my family likings, it's not of my good taste.

i thought "the music industry"=popular music.

because outside of popular music there's very little to no money for artists to make.

if we're talking about music across the board, yes there's plenty of awesome new stuff.
Im not sure really. I think people do generally think of popular music but less popular stuff is also a business with marketing and all that just the same.

Agreed, I prefer listening to lyrical geniuses like Nicki Minaj and Iggy over boring, overrated artists like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.

Eh, I guess it depends. Mainstream pop music is mostly filled with shallow party music anthems, re-used hooks and melodies, and cross promotions everywhere (with most songs featuring some artist or another). Big names patting each other on the back, nothing new. It gets boring and predictable after a while, but that's how it has always been, so claiming that 'everything was better before!' is silly. There is definitely some good stuff out there though, but I think that it's often overshadowed, which is a shame. Thankfully there are plenty of services like Spotify and other stuff that provide more variety.

Like it's always been. A lot of shit but good stuff too. I wish there were more genres on the mainstream scene. Music from North America has went down hill, while music from Europe has improved.

A lot of great music is being produced as music software becomes better and more accessible. A lot of amazing stuff can be found. But the top of the chart mainstream pop stuff is utter garbage. But its kind of expected when the majority of the human population is retarded.

Because Nicki Minaj is the only artist there is today, right?

Because Hollywood Undead, Barely Alive, Monster Magnet, Clutch, Melanie Martinez, !!!, CHVRCHES, Celldweller didn't release albums?

There's a lot of great music out there. Stop bitching. You don't even have to dig too deep.

I will never understand people. Do you guys think that people in the 80's or 70's or 60's did not have the same sort of opinion? There must have been quite a few people in 1983 telling their 20 year that music in the late 60's was so much better.

Our generation is fine. If you actually have a wide taste in music you can never be disappointed. Besides, music spans generations, so it's not like we still can't enjoy music made in 2012 but not Mozart or Queen. I try to listen to as much music as possible from every genre.

The music industry is a sack of shit. It seems like to me that the main goal is to do the least amount of work as possible because they know idiots will buy anything with a somewhat catchy tune. I know people have preferences, but damn. I wish that those who call themselves music listeners would be less ignorant to the fact that they're listening to music that was made just so the artists could roll in the dough. There was no sort of energy or creativity put into it. If people started to enjoy more talented artists and a bigger variety of genres, the music industry would be a beautiful thing. The radio might actually play more the same 5 songs at a time.

Dunno.

I'm pretty late when it comes to music.

I'll be discovering 2010 songs in 2015.

But all that electronic stuff is junk.

Same with rap.

Except some rap.

Some.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Mainstream American and Japanese music from large bands/groups is mostly dogshit, but Japan is worse as you have a mix of out of this world levels of corporate tyranny and just outright corporate slavery by fans going on, it's an epidemic.

Yes, also for this.

Movies soundtrack initially take its roots from classical music, the first movie soundtrack was even composed by a classical composer (Camille Saint-Saëns for the movie "L'Assassinat du duc de Guise").
Pretty much all the movies from the Hollywood's Golden Age were very classical music oriented (with composers like Max Steiner, Elmer Bernstein, Bernard Herrmann, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Alfred Newman, ...), but then comes the evolution of very influential genre like jazz who influenced the composers who cames after the Golden Age (around 60's-70's movies). Composers like Henry Mancini, Michel Legrand, Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin or Nino Rota are good examples.
Then there was the emergence of electronic musical instruments (synthesizers) who also influenced some people like François De Roubaix or David Lynch's movies soundtracks in general.

Movies scores has evolved a lot with its times and many famous and very complete composers raised the level of the repertory, a good amount of them also wrote concert music like concertos, sonatas and stuff, for example.

Some examples :
