What's your opinion on casual fans.

People who call themselves "gamers" since they played candy crush and Angry Birds on their iPad for a hour hours the other day, or "anime fans" who have watched 2 shows (usually something like Pokemon, Naruto or Dragon ball) and suddenly are part of the real community.

I don't understand myself how you can call yourself something if you barely scratch the surface of your claimed "fandom". When I cut my hair every month does that make me a hairdresser? No, so how can someone who plays 2 games every blue moon, and watched Yu-Gi-Oh when they were seven be a fan of the media..?
I mean most people saw a show like Dragon ball, yugioh or pokemon fair enough, most people probably played yugioh in the school yard and pokemon on the gameboy etc.
I use to play Pokemon Ruby on my GBA back when it first came out, I was addicted to it I could probably name every pokemon on the pokedex, had nearly every singe poekmon you could get between, Ruby sapphire and Emerald, and probably smashed in 600 hours in a year plus about 100 on Sapphire and 100 on Emerald, which was fucking ridiculous for me at the time, though I never considered myself a gamer, I considered myself a pokemon fan buy never a real gamer since all I ever played was pokemon and occasionally went onto other pokemon games like Colosseum on GameCube.

Everyone has to start somewhere I suppose but claiming to be a full blown fan of something who barely know anything about the thing you fan-boy over is too far and it ends up being people like that, that start ruining the real fan bases with the shit they spew. You can have an opinion once you give a variety of genres a go...

In before "OP is a Filthy Casual"...

Considering everyone here and on /a/ hates anime, yes casuals are real anime fans.

Only 47.1 days total...

What a disgusting excuse of a fan... Casual... Speaking of...

I'd consider myself a casual as well.

Why care about someone else's hobbies? If someone takes the time to compare and pass judgement on someone else's pastimes, then that's just time spent away from those said hobbies they're so proud of themselves, making them the real casual. Real fans are too busy playing/etc. and moving on to the next game/whatever.

I like both sides of spectrum aka 2deep4me and fanservice stuff for what they are.
I dislike both oblivious extreme blind elitist who cant look further then their nose and too much in your face type of casuals with their glorifying of shows as well.

When Eminem released his album in 2000 marshall mathers lp it was called I belive, I bought the CD since I had hear stuff about him and wanted to listen to it myself, I like the album. I however wouldn't consider myself a real fan of Eminem since I doubt I could name many songs of his, so how could I be...

its not that I care about their hobby, do what the fuck they want in the end, its when they end up being the face of the community you are part of, the first thing people thing of when they think of a anime fan is a a weeb, narutard etc, or what do they think of when you say gamer, they instantly picture a 12 year old screaming how they fucked your mom on call of duty and shouting how much of a faggot someone is...
These people who aren't real fans of the medium end up being the people who represent your fandom...

I'd prefer being seen as a big 3 watcher when i mention to someone that i watch anime, rather than "Sick pedophile, you and your kodomo no jikan", "I bet you fap to 14 year olds"

Who cares?
If they have a few anime series that they are a fan of, then they are anime fans. There isn't some mystical number of completed shows that makes you a certified weeb.

I thought having a waifu/husbando certified someone as a weeb

Maybe they are not huge fans, but if they liked the few shows they have watched and want to check out more in the future, I don't really see a problem with it.

No, only as desperate and/or lonely.

And here i thought it was a meme, for people to show their favorite characters and just make jokes.

Anime Filthy casuals are the worst kind of people to talk about anime with imo. I mean I'll talk to you about other stuff, but anime will just be lame. We won't agree with anything most likely. Also casuals like throwing "it's subjective" a lot that basically stops all debates right away. Like nice comment bro. Sorry I'm trying to talk to you about anime, on a site meant to talk about anime.
Brace yourself.

Soon as LotGH 2017 comes out. The anime community is going to become so cancerous you will need to take cover and hide.

I think everyone was a casual at one point. Time will change them into hardcore elitists or they'll just grow out of the medium.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."

Opinion of casual fans? If they buy anime bd/dvd or manga then they're cool. If they don't, and insists on saying that they like something, but they don't buy at least 1 or 2 manga/anime a year then they're bullshitting themselves.

It's one of those internet words used by people who aren't big on creative thought and who get 90% of their personality from memes. Also see: bae, based, "shit taste" (in the MAL meme-y sense), shit-tier, god-tier

They are fans of the anime they watch. If someone only watches One Piece then they are a One Piece fan, not an anime fan. You can't call yourself a fan of British TV shows if all you've seen is Doctor Who. It may be long, but that doesn't mean you are a fan of the whole medium, just a fan of that one show.
