The people die. Then the story repeats. Why does this happen? Can someone please explain. I'm on episode 13 and still wondering why the dead come back to life, and the 18 are back in the mansion every time they die. Also, why does the way the 18 people die, are always different from the last arc? I don't get this at all. I'm guessing this is some magical world that the witch can control? And why is there like 2 Battlers in each story? One is in the story, and one is with the witch? What the heck...........

The story repeats because the 2nd game and onward are Beatrice's game board. Think of them as alternative worlds she controls. The people in the other worlds didn't revive, they're still dead. These are just different worlds where they've yet to die.

The people die differently because people do different things (Random element) and Beatrice does different things to try and make Meta Battler submit to her.

There's two Battlers because one is Meta. Meta Battler is presumably the Battler from the 1st arc. He's playing against Beatrice. The other Battler is piece Battler. He's just a different Battler from that world. Him and Meta are different.

Think of like a game of chess.

The people in the player seats are Meta Battler and Beatrice. The pieces on the game board are the servants and Ushiromiya family. The other Battler is just another piece on the game board. Meta Battler is the focus of the story because he's the player.

But doesn't the fact that Beatrice can control different worlds and have a meta world mean that at least SOME magic was used? Or could there be a human explanation for that too?

Well, to Battler, there is a difference between "magic on another plane of existence" and "magic in the real world", and the former is what Beato's gameboards are.

It should be noted by the way that Beato is not reviving everyone and rewinding time! No no no no! Each game board is a different world, just like in Higurashi. Beato and 34-tan are just fashioning new gameboards for each round.

Beato claims to be able to interfere and change events in each game, but obviously Battler's job is to show that what she is taking credit for is not in fact what she claims it is.

In the end, Battler is not there to disprove magic, but to disprove Beatrice's magical theories about the murders on Rokkenjima. Big difference.

Also, to simplify "two Battlers", you can think of Meta Battler as perhaps being the ghost/spirit of Battler from the original game. How much of a connection he has with Piece!Battler isn't clear. Maybe he has limited knowledge of Piece!Battler's thoughts and motivations. Maybe he gains some of Piece!Battler's knowledge after he dies in each game. Maybe none of the above.

The Battler from the first arc died and ended up in purgatory. (anything can happen there)
He still denied the existence of the witch, and Battler and Beatrice started a game, where Battler tries to deny witches by explaining how humans could have done the crimes and Beatrice tries to make Battler accept her existence.

Each time the story "repeats", they have started a new game (because the last game ended in stalemate), and every "game board" is in a different world.
