I know what you mean, I watch a lot of mecha to and I've pretty much seen every gundam show. I just thought it had its own things going on for it and felt more unique to say the least. Even the romance despite being cheesy got carried by the leads. Yes it did sort of, like the whole Whispered plight and the Lambda thing, but really I just see that as like the LN's play on the whole Newtype/Psycho Frame situation from Gundam. The thing is there's almost always some sort of special system that only a certain privileged type or special human can control in these, again largely inspired by Newtypes. The relationship aspect largely just annoyed me to be honest, again it's very high school romance like with a lot of the sort of harem tropes you can expect and of the two steps forward one step back variety. It doesn't help that the one guy is like a social dead weight hardened soldier type and the other is a Type A tsundere with a little cutesy moe moe from Teletha on the side to form a sort of love triangle. I mean it is what it is really, but I can accept that it's not totally mired within the trappings of LN's the way a lot of stuff can be these days. Still if I had to pick between a sci-fi anime revival based on an LN though I'd probably take a Banner of the Stars which just got a new volume a couple years ago over FMP. You want to talk character dynamics and plot intrigue then that one had it in spades. |

| So this is the second series Iv watched in the past month that gets new anime after a decade of nothing. First FLCL and the next day production IG announces it will be rebooting. I just started watching FMP yesterday and now this gets new anime adaption So what old series should I watch next, with my luck it just might get revived ;) |

| This is great news, loved the series and the characters. It was never about the mecha aspect for me the characters are awesome. On another note, the original series had a fantastic dub, I hope the can use the same cast again. |
