Well it's "over the years accumulated CB fans" on one hand and "source material+redraw readers+anime-onlies of OPM" on the other hand. I have to admit that a lot of people are actually rating the whole franchise instead of the first 7 anime episodes. So it really is not a direct comparison between the animes. Still, if you use the word "over-rated" which in my understanding means "the people who rate it high don't have valid opinions!", then don't expect people to just nod in agreement. OPM is "over-hyped" though, because we will not see much of the really good stuff until later seasons, but Madhouse doesn't have a good track record when it comes to sequels... |

| The problem with OPM is that in today's anime ecosystem it really does stand out above the rest and has a lot of that western audience appeal, however if you were to compare it with other classic superhero spoofs like The Tick,Freakazoid!... it doesn't really hold up as much since it still plays out fairly serious and is nowhere near as flamboyant and wacky as those 2.It feels somewhere in between tbh. I do think this level of hype is doing OPM a disservice and setting up ridiculously high expectations... |
| No. I wouldn't even be surprised if this was the best anime of the year, because I've been so hyped up for this for so long Also, it's really not the anime itself is overrated it's the fans that makes it so overrated and it seems kind of ridiculous to criticize it just because it's popular. It's like with Attack on Titan, I tried the manga, found it ok but the fans made it so overrated it that I ended up hating it |

How can something by itself be overrated? There's a reason why professional reviewers very rarely call something "overrated" because it's essentially something the creator does not have control over. Something having more influence than you think it should is easy to nullify - just close your MAL tab along with every other website where people are being too obnoxious about it for your standards. | If you don't like it then don't watch it.. why concern yourself with these numbers and ratings that aren't reflective of your own opinion? Why do the opinions of other people upset you so much? There's no right or wrong way to view this and many other anime, or any objective means of determining if this show is "worthy" of such a high ranking. It could simply be a case that a lot of other people greatly enjoy something you don't. Just move on and watch something else. Or continue watching if you like it. |

I mean, it's current rank signifies that it is considered one of the greatest anime of all time, which is a load of bullshit. It's good though. (And has been even better recently now that a story has begun to form.) It definitely has potential to be great, but I will never see it as a masterpiece. |

| I think what a lot of people who don't like One Punch Man seem to be doing strangely, is that they are looking for deep intricate plotlines, emotional drama, and whatnot. So essentially you are trying to take a joke manga/anime and treat it as a serious drama? If you keep looking for elements that will never be there of course you're going to be dissapointed. It was never the point of OPM to have these elements but you're berating it for it not being something it was never intended to be? there would probably be a lot less dissapointed people if you just chill out and watch the show for its jokes, action, and art. Personally I still find interesting stuff like getting introduced to different heroes and villans with unique personalities and designs is always entertaining to me too. Even all that being said there's still no guarantee that you'll like OPM.. Not everyone hs the same opinions and you could very well hate something 95% of other people love. But even if you do hate the show, that doesn't invalidate the opinions of the people who enjoy it, which means your arguing of overrated is pointless. |
