Was about to suggest the same feature before I saw this. It seems like a useful filter for an anime database to have, yet I haven't seen it implemented on any databases that I've seen. Was planning on using it to search for originals, ended up instead opening a bunch of info pages and manually closing the ones that didn't have original in the source field. ![]() |
they need to sperrate novels and Light novels ![]() "If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine" When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one For the Union makes us strong |

was about to suggest the same ![]() |
...and to the manga one if it has it. Since MAL decided to add a "Source" to the info section, might as well let us look up stuff in that category or un-include it in the advance search, like say if we want to look up series and un-include all visual novel adaptions. Or at least add it to the columns to be seen in list view. ![]() |
+1 for this idea. Would be useful. Also: un-include exclude is the word you're looking for! :^)![]() |
I do not think the other topic linked is on the exact same topic as it refers to adding it to the info sidebar, while this one refers to adding the option to the advanced search. Having established that, I would like to add: Aside from adding the option to the advanced search, it would already be very very handy to make the "source" clickable within the sidebar so that it leads you to a list of others of similar source type. Same as, for example, when an anime lists Gonzo as the studio you can click "Gonzo" to find all other anime listed under Gonzo. ![]() |
Supporting this idea, really helpful for the MAL Anime Watching Challenge (and the manga one too). Also for the challenges club =D ![]() |
I've been looking for more anime with original material to watch since I would prefer to read the manga if the anime is adapted from one. It's a pity that the source of each anime is listed in their information but it's not possible to view anime that have the same type of source. The way I'm doing it right now is googling for original anime results and then coming back to myanimelist to add them to my list. ![]() |
This would be good. If it's gonna be implemented. I want to see something "Eroge" or "Otome" on it. So I can quickly get away with those shitty sources. ![]() Haters always gonna hate. But they are all dumb asses who always love to bother unnecessarily. "Spread the Hate, Spread the Idiocy." |
I support this. + a setting to add a column in your list that shows the source. Would make it easier to search for anime you watched in the past that were based on a manga - so you could check if the manga continued and reading the manga to experience more of the plot that happened after the manga ended. You'd still manually check the manga but you wouldn't need to check each your list entry to see if it was based on manga. (Or novel if you want to read novels but they get translated more slowly. Manga source might be interesting.) ![]() |
Bump. I'm glad you already suggested this, so I won't have to. I think this would be a useful feature. Some of my favorite anime lately have been "originals," and I want to watch more highly rated ones that I may have missed. However, I have no way to "advance search" for that. Some anime based off of manga recently have had no proper endings, and since I usually don't have time to read manga, that's a real bummer. I'd like more chances to watch stories with closure, and this function could aid me and others in that endeavor. Obviously, there are exceptions to this statement, but my point still stands. Filtering by source would be useful. Please consider this! ![]() |
Edit: This post was originally the OP of a new thread titled "Allow Anime to be Searched by Source". So if I want to see the highest rated original TV anime, manga-adapted OVAs, etc., I can do that. It's a straightforward suggestion. ![]() Modified by TripleSRank, Mar 3, 2017 2:41 PM |

It would be nice to have that option somewhere in advanced search. Just like with genres, you could exclude tags you don't want or pick one you like. +1 ![]() I'm watching anime since 2012. I also play games, sometimes. Don't bother me if you want to 'become friends' or things like that. It's tiresome. I know you just want to collect some meaningless numbers. agree this, the idea also comes up even when i before joined this MAL! what's the matter? .... thought that this is a good idea. yet there is no follow up. wonder why ![]() |

I just Ctrl+f search original (although I did it for 4-koma) to find it. ![]() |
This site lacks so many basic features it annoys me. We don't even have the ability to exclude genres in a search. ![]() |
