Since I don't try and focus on the flaws in a show, it has to be really bad for me to give it a 5 or below. If I enjoyed it, I gauge how much, and give it a 6-10.

10/10 doesn't exist for people who consider themselves or their list to be of objective value. I only rated one anime to be 10/10 and it was because it was Boku no Pico and thought it'd be hilarious.

Otherwise I just rate them at 9/10 as a customary nod to not hyping too much about what I like, but more about what I think that particular anime is at relative to others.

So my 9/10 is equivalent of other people's 10/10.

Gintama is 10/10. If any anime want to get the same rating then they need to git gud.

I rate my shows based on how they appealed to my own personal tastes, so for me a 10/10 isn't a flawless show but something I love enough that I either enjoy rewatching it on a regular basis or that left a lasting impression upon me.

No show is perfect.

Exactly. Everything in life has flaws, but that doesn't mean it can't be a masterpiece.

1/3. Awful
2/3. Decent
3/3. Perfect

I would use this but personally just think of 3/3 as "good/very good to perfect range". If I had to translate it to MAL ratings now:

1/3. Awful = 0-4.99
2/3. Decent = 5-7.99
3/3. Perfect = 8-10

They do that in France, a perfect score is 19/20 cause nothing is perfect.
At least according to my high school French teacher who happens to be Spanish.

With all due respect, that's just indication that French people are a little stupid.
Now you're wondering if there's white text in any of my other posts.

Personally, and this is just me (remember that ratings are based completely on ones opinion) , I never rate anything above a 9 or below a 5.

I mean sure I've seen stuff I really enjoyed, but nothing stuck out as something I absolutely had to give a 10 to. On the opposite end I've seen plenty of things I thought were just ok, but nothing I've ever thought were so terrible I had to give a below average rating to. Again that's just me.

Out of my 342 completed anime I only have 2 10s and 18 9s. I think even my 8 is equivalent to what some people use 10 for. I mainly adjusted my ratings because I was accused of rating too high. When I only had around 100 completed anime I had six 10s.

In High School I had a French teacher who came from the French part of Switzerland and she used 19/20 as the highest grade (on the report card it was treated as 19/19). It is a French cultural tradition and it isn't practiced as much as it once was, but the fact that it was once the standard way of grading is still interesting and is valuable to this topic.

For those who don't believe 10/10s exist, go watch The God Father.

At least one 10/10 should exist on someone's list. The reason 10/10s aren't handed out easily or often is that the rating system becomes flawed if a certain show exceeds the 100%. If a show is given 10/10 that 10/10 must be in equal value to another 10/10 show or else the rating scale is off. A new standard is created when a better show reaches the high range and hence, everything else that isn't of that standard must move down.

Anyway, MAL doesn't allow for decimal ratings or the 100 scale so rating 10/10 on MAL is acceptable. Technically, shows in the 9.5-9.9 range should be rated up to 10/10, so that allows for shows with flaws to make it to the 10/10 rating.

Actually you do have some kids who do get perfect grades for instance at the national exam at the end of high school, but it's a big deal, the French educational system is extremely elitist.

mas-ter-piece
[mas-ter-pees, mah-ster-]
noun
1. a person's greatest piece of work, as in an art.
2. anything done with masterly skill:
a masterpiece of improvisation.
3. a consummate example of skill or excellence of any kind:
The chef's cake was a masterpiece.

I rate more or less on how much I'd want to re-watch a series. My 10/10 usually means I'll re-watch the series MULTPLE times throughout my life (for example, my personal favorite series I've re-watched 9 times so far). As it goes down I tend to rate as the wording says (5 being what I'd consider an average show, etc.)
