I saw the illustrations for the LN and sadly this series is a cock tease unless Silverlink decides to go that extra mile for the BD which I'm not expecting at all

Uhhh, it is the same as Mahouka MC though. Does he has a sister who calls him "Onii-sama" as well? Man, this anime is like a rip-off of Mahouka.

The adaptation is slowly falling in pieces...

What was that bitch slap in the final scene? srsly...

And what happened with the scene where Ikki beats four guys?

As a novel reader, I'm a little bit disappointed.

Co'z it induces pity from the viewers on how miserable his life was. Also, this happens to be one of the standard traits in anime MCs.

Because his father wants to maintain the balance of the Mage Knight system. If Ikki an F-Rank somehow succeeds and become a successful mage knight, others might start to imitate him hence the balance will crumble.

Usually anime like this doesn't do much for me, but for some reason I absolutely loved every minute of this episode. XD Seriously enjoying this a lot more than I would have expected. I love how the characters aren't flat (puns for days) and are interesting in their own rights, something ecchi anime practically never do right. LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT EP ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

New guy here (as in i jsut joined MAL recently).
I thought that this episode was great...until the slap, which was kind of a dissapointment.
Having read the manga AFTER i saw the second ep i was, uneasy. The manga is so far in the proximity of 8,5/10 and it had a couple of moments which realy made me feal happy/fullfiled. The problem here is that i fear that with the changes made to certain "plot heavy" scenes aka. WAS THE SLAP REALY NEEDED? ,they will likely rush the nicer parts of this show and degrade it. As i sit here forced to watch older shows in between airings i can conclude that the episode was a rollercoaster ride, slightly downhill, but a fun ride nevertheless

It seems most of the people that have read the novel and manga didn't like Ep 2, but most anime-only viewers thought it was good or at least okay. The problem is Ep 2 made it look like that this is a harem series. Ep 4 will make it clear once and for all that this is not a harem.

Summary of this episode:
Washboard vs Advertising Balloon

Anyway SILVER LINK NEEDS TO REDEEM THEIR SHIT ON THE NEXT EP BECAUSE SO FAR I'M FRIGGIN DISAPPOINTED ON WHAT THEY HAD DONE TO MY STELLA THAT SLAP RUINED THAT FUCKIN BATH SCENE YOU MADE HER LOOK LIKE A STANDARD GENERIC TSUNDERE MC. MANGA BATH SCENE WAS BETTER AT LEAST

I think this was worse than the first episode (I'm comparing on the Manga). They tried to combine chapters 2-4 into one episode, but some things felt like uneeded changes. Stella in the Manga came off as someone who was trying to sound dignified when she insulted Shizuku, but here in the anime version she just insults her without sounding elegant at all. I also think that they ruined the bath scene here compared to the Manga version, by making Stella's top fall off when she was washing Ikki's back and turning it into a circumstance joke. Ikki also had more respect in the Manga version of this, but in the anime version of this part it's just one girl wanting to write a newspaper (and obviously Stella). I liked that he at least had respect from some of the people in the school, instead of 1-3 people. I still like the show so far and am not to the point of considering dropping it, but I don't like some of the changes at all (especialy when it comes to Stella).

This show is refreshingly honest/open with the ecchi stuff, and is really funny in a different way.

Wow, Ali project returns to make a new ED, been a while since i heard that quirky style. So many old singers returning this season.

It's an overly traditioan high expectations household thing, he's alienated because they figured him to be useless.

Just for the anime-only viewers: There was a scene in the LN and manga where Ikki was shown to be a lot more popular, with fangirls swarming him. Then a bunch of jealous guys try to attack him, only for Ikki to pwn them with his bare hands and an ERASER. That whole scene was removed completely. THAT is the extend to which this LN is being butchered.

More like saved as well as they can. That scene sounds horrible.

Also funny how things take its natural course with every LN adaptation each season. Before it airs, LN readers claim its a masterpiece, after Season 1 they claim it gets better and as soon as they realize it doesnt, they claim the studio butchered the adaptation. Sure makes you wonder why no studio can adapt a LN right, man those LNs must really be something special when even Madhouse cant do them right...

Yes, it's still no harem. If you still can't realize that even after the OP design, I can't help you.

No, if you don't like the settings and the characters, waiting for ep4 most likely isn't going to save things for you. Unfortunately, Silver Link is already taking several major liberties with the material, and all of them remove things which set the show apart from the rest, and replace them with "standard generics", dropping it into the mainstream. For fans of the original, this is sad, because it's so unnecessary.

I do understand why the show tried to end episode 1 where it ended. And yes, it was clear that we'd get more flashback exposition than it would be advisable in ep2. But so many questions which are crystal clear in the original are left unanswered this way. Example:

1) What caused Stella to completely revert her tsun towards Ikki to dere in this degree?
2) Why did Stella really enter Ikki's bath? (It's not the desire to be a good servant)
3) What's the reason for Stella to ask him if he liked Girls' breasts?

Unfortunately, without this context, it looked like merely pointless fanservice.

Finally: This is the second time when Silver Link added a slap where there wasn't any to begin with (in the original, Stella didn't lose her bra either). This is rubbing many fans - me included - very wrong, because Stella is NOT a typical violent tsundere-bitch. Silver Link should stop altering her character, since it doesn't help in the least. It's only making things worse.

All things considered, still good entertainment (and it's obvious that the vast majority of people unaware of the original have a good time). But it could be better. Hoping that Silver Link is regaining their stride.
Please, someone give this guy a medal.

To eveyone in this thread bitching about this episode, no one forces you to continue watching this, yet you continue, why? cause in truth it's your guilty pleasure -might as well state it's cause most of you will return here in a few weeks and start bitching all over again. DETAILS PEOPLE! DETAILS! No one ever stated this ain't a cliché (One of the most clichés out there) Don't like it? Don't watch. It's that simple.

It would make more sense if Silver Link where to reorganize the scene were Ikki beats up the jealous dudes AFTER this episode. So it might not be entirely skipped, just moved.

they could at least show Stella and Ikki conversation
and thoughts before the bath scene so Stella wouldnt show
like a complete slut.

though i guess thats the reason to why they add this random slap and.....

Madhouse did No Game No Life right.
Diomedea (yes I am talking about Diomedea) did Mondaijitachi right.

There 2 examples. So what now?

This episode focused on ecchi too much! Aaand here I was, waiting for the ERASER scene... :(
The anime also skipped out on Stella-Ikki comedic conversation, and Ikki admitting he was indeed charmed, and SADDENED (which seldom happens in a story) by the fact that Stella called him a pervert . This episode also made Stella more tsundere that she actually is by changing the end of the bath scene (bikini top coming off and slapping Ikki VS Stella just rushing out the bathroom after pressing it behind Ikki's back).... :(

So there is a transgender character on this show. Hopefully she won't be the butt of a ton of jokes because of it.

What is it with all the incest in anime these days?

Ikki's grandfather offered some encouraging words, but wasn't he complicit with the family's horrible treatment of Ikki?

The backstory was decent. The self-awareness at the beginning of the episode made me think it might be okay, but then they turned it into a double subversion with the kiss, which I didn't care for. At all.

I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt, but the rest hardly looks different than anything else I would expect from the genre.

I still maintain that is a strategy that will pay dividends when we get to the part we're all waiting for. Whether it will pay off remains to be seen, but no point jumping the gun this early into the game. I'll be one of the first in line with my rusty pitchfork if Silver Link keeps up these shenanigans even after the big reveal.

#1 - This was eventually covered in the latter half of the episode, but an acceptable initial answer would be their agreement to try and make their situation work. I mean they did do a fist bump at the very end of EP1 to signify their new working relationship. The dere parts is just Stella already being somewhat interested in Ikki with her mounting him and all. Somewhat flimsy in comparison to the LN, but hey there's only so many minutes they can cram in one episode and the cuts were acceptable enough.

#2 - Yeah the scene where Stella was staring at the bathroom door before the bath scene was really insufficient in this regard. A disappointing cut, but still acceptable in my opinion.

#3 - Now this one will have different connotation from an anime-only viewer point of view. My interpretation of it is Stella asking whether or not Ikki is attracted to her breasts, or in this case her body. This somewhat alters the meaning from the source, but overall it accomplishes the same objective of Stella gauging where Ikki stands so to speak. And let's face it, the episode was already prefaced with Shizuku clearly being a blood-related sibling of Ikki. So still an acceptable change although the slap was indeed an unnecessary addition.

Some of the context from the LN may be missing, but I think SL added just enough to prevent it from being just pointless fanservice. Though they're really going full steam with the misdirection...

And she's still not a violent tsundere-bitch even with a batting average of one slap an episode. While anime-original, both are rather justifiable given the context of the situation. I agree that it's largely unnecessary, but works given the notion of misdirecting their audience. Does it change Stella's perception as a character? Perhaps. But the game doesn't really change until the next story arc. Post pool-scene (because we all know stories like this just have to have a beach/hotspring/pool episode) is where SL will really be tested on whether or not they can keep it in check. Until then just enjoy the ride.

I don't know why people are complaining so much about this episode, I found it quite enjoyable.

Dat wincest came out of left field. Seeing how this is a romance, and he said his sister was blood related I didn't expect her to initiate like that, lol.

I thought the scene where they were all over Ikki was hilarious. First the arm between boobs, then the kiss, then Shizuku and Stella really quiet and really fast mutter those insults and then immediately fight. Then they keep calling each other names the entire time they cleaned. I thought that was done way better than the usual big chest vs small chest cat fights.

People complained about Stella being bitchy too? Was I watching the same show? Because I saw a Stella who was jealous of girls clinging onto the guy she was interested in. Then she waited for him to give him a drink and had a talk with him because she wanted to know more about him. Then she gets into the bath with him and washes him and puts her tits on his back.....and she's bitchy how? I thought she was noticeably more dere this episode than last week.

Only thing I'm disappointed in is that someone mentioned a scene where Ikki beats up some guys who are jealous of him and he had girls fawning over him. That I would've liked to see.
- Who knows, maybe they'll do it next week. After all those people saw what happened with him being pounced by his sister it'll spark more interest in him around the school. They could just change the order shit happens.

That wasn't my point. In the manga, it was clearly expressed that Stella was getting hot and bothered from Ikki's body. The anime just made it look silly by adding some sort of mindgasm that you'd see from Shokugeki no Soma.

This makes sense.

Its called good marketing

Besides its really not a big deal at all lol....In fact I think its great for them to do it considering how much of a success it is in Souma

Wouldn't really call it good marketing since:
1. People probably would've enjoyed seeing Stella all hot and bothered like a girl out of To Love Ru than for her to be Barbie doll in a flash of rainbow light.
2. Silver Link didn't do Soma, so it looks stupid on their part.

Uh, that's not what androgynous means.

Androgynous = Kobayashi from Ranpo Kitan

Having a male body but identifying as female = Transgender

THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA OR LIGHT NOVEL BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

Ok, let's just review what we saw here. We saw the newspaper girl press Ikki's arm against her bosom, but with nothing else indicating sexual interest at all. We saw the imouto force a kiss on Ikki when he wasn't expecting it, and a clear indication that he isn't interested in his sister that way at all. Neither of these makes this harem or incest, so there is really no reason for all the hysteria and faux threats to stop watching (I'm on to your game, you'll be coming back to dump on this show for the next ten episodes...). We did see a lot of skinship between Ikki and Stella, as well as clear indications that both of them are developing interests in the other that are romantic and sexual in nature. I like true harem shows and I have no problem with incest...but those just aren't here nor should they be if the adaptation is going to be true to the source material.

As for that unfortunate off-screen slap (the one we didn't see but reasonably assume happened), I'm willing to consider it a panic reaction out of Stella's embarrassment with Ikki noticing just what had happened to her top. And regarding the wardrobe malfunction, sure it's a bit of fan service--but that's what sells BD's and supports anime being made. If it keeps up every episode, this might have to have the ecchi label attached, but skinship and people getting naked is actually a major point of what romance is all eventually about.

Also note that the reason people who are familiar with LN/Manga are arguing with you about the nature of the show, and the reason why they are sometimes posting spoilers that they shouldn't is that there is a good base to the story, and they're trying to get you to get past your first reaction and stick around for the development, the tournament, and the underlying plot.
Please don't feed the trolls!
