THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Second part of the Italian Dream episode.
A lot of focus of Rebecca's past and the revelation about her boyfriend's project.
Nix now is a serious villain, this episode looks like the end of part 1 of this series.
It was really a strong story, even if I feel that the science was too far fetched.

Didn't like a lot this arc and I found it stupid. I mean...I was thinking "WTF" while Lupin was dreaming.

Meh arc.

I like Rebecca a lot more after this arc but I'm glad this was a midseason reveal instead of a finale

Japanese Episode 12

A very packed episode this week as we conclude(I think) Rebecca's arc. The first half with Lupin in the dream world seeing Rebecca's past through Kou's subconscious left in the book was very trippy. So we learn what he was doing, what his research entailed, and why MI6 was after him. Then it turns a bit into an action film as Nyx pursues Lupin and Rebecca. No surprise but their marriage was never made official. I'm a bit surprised and saddened we seem to be pretty much done with her so soon though. If I didn't see her in the preview I'd think this was her last appearance. :(

We learn more about Nyx too, and he and Lupin are captured. I hope/think he wasn't killed. Unless the series really is going in a completely new direction, which it might, the only way I see this Italia Dream plot continuing is if Nyx somehow immediately memorized at least some of Kou's research before the fire consumed it all. I may be looking into it too much, but I kinda got that impression. Guess we'll see.

Well I guess I got my wish regarding Zenigata as he saves/captures Lupin. Next week looks promising, love seeing those two interact. :D

Oh, and Nyx was 007? Nice :D Oh, and nice Star Wars poster in the background. Certainly fitting for today. :D

Don't worry, without spoiling you too much of the second cour, I can safely say Rebecca is in this series from the first to the last scene.

I know right? It's pretty much a sin that hardly anyone is following this show, it's so amazing. The mid season finale was great, still going super strong and I can't wait to see more.

Me too. At first, I found Rebecca's personality to be childish and hard to take seriously but now I have much more interest about her future role for the rest of the season. Great background storytelling this episode.

I knew it, like a few others the ep has been advanced. Loved this ep, so much to take in, but per the show I can see what happens next, go monkey.

The "dream" sequence in this episode was confusing at first. Maybe needed a bit more explanation.

Agreed, I've really come to like her now that we know more about her!

I was watching the English dub on Toonami and noticed something odd. The captions would say Wataru (referring to Rebecca's deceased love), but the spoken line would be "Ko" (or probably "Kou"). What's up with that?

Haha this escape reminds me of part 1 escape where he stayed at prison for entire year
Just to humiliate Zenigata

Aww I guess this is still the same Zenigata, he cared for Lupin
He loved Lupin (he totally said that) xD
But without his old voice, it's not the same :(

The eyecatch.. it's Pycal?

I just love Lupin & Zenigata's relationship

A superb episode, and a nice reference to that one episode from Part I. This isn't even my first time watching this, but it still almost moved me to tears. Of course Lupin would be fine, but it was hard to watch him "wasting away", and the effect it had on Zenigata. He has been more serious than usual in this part, but his essence was clearly here this time.

I guess it was hard for Jigen, Goemon, Fujiko, and especially for Rebecca, who doesn't know Lupin as well as the other three, to just wait like that, without doing anything. But it also shows how much they trust him. They worried, and I'm sure that they felt like going and helping him more than once, but they waited for him. And of course, Lupin had the whole thing under control from the start, he cannot be contained. Welp, it was great. The stalkers, I mean, agents assigned to Goemon and Fujiko sure had a great view though. lol

Lupin and Zeni are brothers who go way back and of course Lupin would exploit that fact.

The characters were surprised when Lupin talked in his sleep because they thought he didn't have dreams (which I thought just meant he wasn't bound by ambitions). Yet he talked in his sleep in Episode 34, Episode 59, Episode 113 (although the others were asleep as well and didn't hear him) and especially Episode 133 of Part 2.

He also had that visitation from Kyousuke Mamoh in Part 1 Episode 13, which wasn't a dream but he dismissed it as one, and a visitation from Mephistopheles in Part 2 Episode 87, which he and Jigen dismissed as a dream as well.

Japanese ep. 13, Italian 14.

We've rarely seen an episode so much focused on character exploration, specifically the relationship between Lupin and Zenigata. As such it was great, even if the result was obvious from the start. It's an interesting question: since Zenigata's identity is so much wrapped up in chasing Lupin and never catching him, does he truly want to accomplish his goal in the first place?

Plus, dreams mostly happen in REM, and since some episodes depict Lupin as being something of a heavy sleeper, this isn't really a surprise. Although, Fujiko must have been confused because Lupin's subconscious is mostly a void and the fact that he's in such a deep sleep isn't usually anything out of the ordinary.

Lupin pretending to starving to death in prison... Probably the darkest Lupin's episode since the 70's "Green Jacket" where he also end up in prison - except that in the 70's series he was waiting for a death sentence.
Lupin's 3D art was impressive.
