Would never watch any of that garbage.

Are you guys honestly telling me that if you looked at an anime's MAL page and saw a 6.0, you'd think that anime is ok/above average to you? You would really watch that?

EDIT: Maybe its because my good to bad anime watch ratio is so high that my definition of average is different from most people. If you guys watch nothing but shit, then I guess that makes sense

If an anime is rated 7.34 or higher then logically I think it should be good enough to watch.

6/10 means, to me, that more often than not I'll enjoy said anime. It'll have blatant flaws that can be somewhat overlooked...probably has about 1-2 standout episodes with 1 great character.

I actually just realised that I rarely ever recommend anime that I've rated 6/10 and the frequency that I recommend anime increases with the rating that I give them. This may play a role in determining what a rating means. Obviously, just like how I never rewatch anime regardless of what score I give them, some people will never recommend anime to other people so it doesn't have to be part of the definition.

I often recommend anime less because of the rating, and more because of content. If I think an anime failed but its methods would still be to someone's liking, I'll recommend it.

Enjoyable and memorable, but not as enjoyable and memorable as a 7.

For me 6-10 are all shades of good, they're always positive ratings.

60% is a bit bellow average since IMO being under 50% is crap. I mean how can you call yourself a cook when you can marinate your beef but cant grill it?

by the way a 1 or 2 would probably be bikini warriors in black and white (line art 1 and shaded 2)

6/10 is above-average. 6/10 is basically a pretty good anime with great aspects to it but isn't great overall. 6/10 isn't a bad anime to watch nor is it boring but while watching it, you know there's better things out there for you. 6/10 is an anime with a couple of great moments but are few and far between in a series that needs more of those.

I think a prime example of the 6/10 rating is Coyote Ragtime Show.
If a credible reviewer gives a certain anime 6/10, are you compelled to watch it or not?

Do you consider 6/10 to be slightly positive, or slightly negative?
I'd be alright watching it but I'd rather spend that time watching something better.

6 is more than 5.5 so I consider it positive (or above average anyway).

Ehhh they were fun I guess. The most recent example would be Charlotte.

there were some interesting/entertaining things or things it did well. Maybe it was the concepts or in execution, either way they make it stand out a small bit, but for the most part it was mediocre or not to my taste.

or it was a pretty good anime with some aspects that to me were pretty big negatives and dragged it down.

6 = fine. Which means slightly above average and if it's reviewer's score then it's probably worth watching. Unfortunately on MAL most people think that 5/6 = garbage.

I really couldn't care less what a reviewer thinks.

Slightly negative.

They aren't good but aren't bad, just decent or "fine" as MAL rating says. When I rate a 6/10 it means I got some slight enjoyment while watching it but it's probably something I'll never watch again. I've got too many 6/10's to give examples.

It's "fine" like what MAL says

that means it's above average and I quite enjoyed it.

I don't mind watching anime with average MAL rating of 6, in fact some of them are really enjoyable and I ended up rating them with 8.

Having looked at a number of reviews and ratings on MAL, I don't think a lot of people follow the wording from the MAL scale perfectly. It seems more like a 7 is average. I've seen people utterly trash shows in their reviews and still give it a 6 or a 7. Very often I see something a long the lines of "ehh that show as decent enough. 7/10" so their wording my be reflecting average (5/10) or fine (6/10) but the number score does not.

A positive rating denoting a decent anime I enjoyed watching despite its glaring flaws that are outweighed by its positive traits e.g. K-ON!, Eureka Seven, Uchouten Kazoku. Many terrible anime in my eye have averages above 6 and 7 so it's not like averages really matter. I don't decide what to watch based on MAL rankings or reviews.

I rarely read review nowadays, and I don't have a 6/10.

According to MAL, 6/10 would be above average/good, but going by ratings, to the majority, only 7.9+ series are worth having a look.

Fine :P

Something I liked in some areas but either wasn't compelling enough to finish or had a glaring flaw that was enough to turn me off. Or it just got bad after a certain point

One Piece, I love pirates and I liked the style of one piece and the character designs. but the dialogue and lack of noticeable progression towards anything (at least in the episodes I watched) caused me to drop it.

Death Note. lost interest after ep 27. wasn't in love with it before that but I liked L's character and the dramatic direction made it entertaining. The style is pretty bland outside of it's directing though.

Yeah, I guess 6 means that I enjoyed certain aspects of it enough to watch at least 10 episodes but ultimately, I feel my time is better spent on other anime.

Would I watch a 6 by a "credible" reviewer? I don't know what you mean by credible, I think digibro's credible, but that's because I agree with him on most things. Probably not, since to most people, 6-7 is average. Also everyone has different tastes. That guy above me though K-ON was a 6. I loved it. Neither of us are objectively right but I might have missed out on anime I ended up liking had I listened to reviewers. Digibro didn't like ergo proxy and I guess I'd consider him a "credible" reviewer. I did like it. I can usually tell by the first episode or two, which isn't a huge investment, so I'll just watch something that looks interesting, like most people, I don't have many things lower than 6 because I general don't watch more than a few episodes of shows I don't like. Why did I give Knights of Sidonia so many chances...

slightly above average, "fine" like MAL says. It has a couple of enjoyable moments but it didn't necessarily catch my attention, I kept watching it for the sake of completion or in hope of it getting better late on. Sometimes it simply was a series with wasted potential.

6/10 is a show that's OK in the least. Nothing special but way better then 5 at least.

From a mathematical standpoint it would be slightly above average, but the average ratings in MAL are slightly higher, so a rating alone that would even have a chance to change my mind about deciding to watch a show would be a solid 9 or high 8.

Personally I would like to think of 6/10 as an above average, but in actual fact I rate an anime 6/10 when it falls below expectation or is below average because that just fits the scores here in MAL

Scores aside though, I'd be more convinced to watch a series if I heard good things from people that have similar taste to me, regardless of the scores they receive on MAL

5 is your average anime. 6 is slightly better than average. 7 is good. 8 is entertaining with few problems(sometimes ending makes difference BTWN 8 and 9 to me anyway). 9 is entertaining to the point where you are addicted to it and stream it in your free time when you start the series. 10 is not only entertaining /addictive, but also rewatchable(this makes alot of series where the ending being revealed kinda ruins it feel left out buy). This is not the best list I tried to adapt it from my women rating list.......

i don't think ppl understand the difference between an average anime that you bother to watch (hopefully at least a 7) and an average anime in general (5)
there are tens of thousands of terrible shows out there, the bottom 90% isn't even worth considering unless you've seen hundreds or thousands already
just try going to anime search and click on a random letter
chances are there isn't even 1 thing worthwhile per 10, or even per page a lot of the time

I have a few definitions for a 6. First, something that is entertaining but is riddled with problems, plotholes, etc. Second, something that is really fun to watch but does nothing different or with little variety to get it a higher score. Third, stuff that has some great things but has more problems than anything (although that can also constitute as a 7).

Idk, I was never the biggest fan of the number system to begin with as I never feel if the scores really reflect my feelings or not.

A 6/10 is when you're trying to go for dark, grim, suspenseful, and terrifying, but instead comes out as cringeworthy and laughable:

From my scoring system: 6 - Perhaps it was lacking or wasted a fair portion of potential, but overall it was still decent, possibly even borderline good. I still enjoyed it, but to a lesser extent than I had hoped for.

It's essentially like getting a 60%. Yeah you passed, but if someone gets a 6/10 in their driver's ed class, do you want that person on the road?

For me, fine rating, do not expect such euphoric feeling when you watch it, else if the title pique your tastes personally. In other words, it is not as splendid as other lucrative and high-quality movies, but watchable and the enjoyment is uncertain, though have a fine chance.

The passing grade for the driving test is extremely high, 85% where I live. It makes sense that people shouldn't be allowed to drive if they get less than that, but only watching anime that deserve an 8.5 or higher is limiting yourself too much.

I like MAL's descriptions for each number, so I think "fine" is well.. fine to describe a 6.
