For me a 6/10 anime is usually one that might have been fine, but that I just didn't really enjoy watching. Subjective of course, but I wont even begin to try and rate anime objectively.
Some people are into that kind of thing.

I would say it is a highly above average show. It would be excellent entertainment all-throughout, or tackle it's themes in a way that was well-done, but not to my liking. A solid 6/10 for me would be One outs, initial D, or Detroit Metal City. 6/10 isn't very common for me, because normally shows suck and are lower than 6/10. It's a respectable rating. If I saw someone whom's taste I highly respected give a show 6/10. I wouldn't be jumping at it right away, but I would assume it is a great watch.

Above average. Barely good/fine/enjoyable, but not my cop of tea for critical thought.

I've noticed that my 6/10's tend to be a pretty interesting variety:

A show which is average all the way through (Cowboy Bebop)
An entertaining show that blows it at the end (NGE)
A show which exceeds in atmosphere but fails at plot and storytelling (Texhnolyze)
A show with great production values and forgettable concept (Fate/Zero)
A low-budget production that unnecessarily stretches out a good source (Kemono no Souja Erin)

Or maybe best described with 3 letters: meh

Above average.
I'll watch a show rated 6/10, once I get interested in a certain aspect of a show I get too stubborn to pass it by based on what other people think.
I feel more confident in watching something 7/10 though, it feels like there's a big leap between 6 and 7.

I only have 3 shows I've rated 6 myself (Black★Rock Shooter, Plastic Memories & the first season of Date A Live), all stuff I thought was average but really excelled in one or two areas.

I would consider a 6/10 anime to be a fair anime. A series that had a certain entertainment value to it, but is ultimately nothing to write home about. I usually use this label for a lot of shounen anime I watch.

Would I watch a series rated a 6 out of 10 by the reviewer? I guess it depends on the reviewer. If it were someone like That Anime Snob, probably...since that guy has a tree stuck up his ass about certain anime (he seriously shits on some great anime for embellished and nonsensical reasons). If it were a credible reviewer though, probably not. I sort of trust Arkada's reviews since his views on anime align pretty close to mine...although we've had some arguments about a few series that are good/bad.

Frankly, I try to steer clear of anime reviews because my way of looking at anime varies quite differently from a lot of other people.

My 6/10 are usually I had fun watching but there was no real substance to make it rememberable. I can usually finish 6/10 but 5/10 I usually slog through just to see if the ending does any justice.

"Fine" as MAL rating system says, a little better than an average anime.
For example, I gave Akame ga Kill a 5/10 because I think it had around the same amount of good and bad points.

Love Lab got a 6/10 from me, I think it's a fine piece of comedy, but nothing great.

If a credible reviewer gives a certain anime 6/10, are you compelled to watch it or not?

Do you consider 6/10 to be slightly positive, or slightly negative?

How do you truly feel about an anime you give 6/10 to? Examples?

I don't really care about what "credible" reviewers think. If a series seems interesting I'll check out few eps and either watch it or drop it.

Above average/slightly above average.

Usually for me 6/10 is a series that's good overall, but lacks highpoints
or a series that was great overall, but had really bad lowpoints.
Case in point Buddy Complex. It was an okay series, but it never really got the "damn that's awesome/good/cool/sad etc." reaction
Flame of Recca. I like the manga and the anime seemed really good for the most part. Too bad the butchered ending is one of the most retarded original endings ever.

As you can see...

... 6 is fine. It's not bad, since 4 is bad and the average is 5, which is lower than 6.

Seems very simple, yet a tremendous number of MAL users don't get it.

6 means it's just not a top priority title. But 8+ titles can have big hype and tend to be overrated, hence why 6 is not to be dumped. It's not bad, it's totally watchable, it's above average, sometimes it's controversial, or something prevented it from being good but it has value; it's... fine.

I consider it to be partly negative. If an anime has 6/10 but it seems interesting to me I'll watch it.

Usually I give an anime 6/10 if it was okay, but with some bothersome flaws; such as,
poorly written main characters.

Anything below 8 is unwatchable when rated by MAL. If a credible reviewer gave a show 6, I would probably watch it. 6 is considered fine, which means the show is still enjoyable. Though, I wouldn't watch a 5 as it's neither good or bad meaning there is no merit to watching it.

There's only a bit over 300 anime that are rated over 8.0 on MAL. I think a lot of us have watch well over that amount. If you only watch anime rated over 8.0 you will run out eventually.

Logically speaking, everything above 5 is what you like. Otherwise, you shouldn't rate it above average.

5.5 is average because it's in the middle between 1-10 while 5 lower is considered mediocre or below average while 6 is above average meaning it's fine.

6 as below average is very subjective

Please follow the standard of rating a show between 1-10.

I am guilty of this. 9-I really really liked it, one of my favorites
8-I really liked it
7-I liked it but I had some problem with it
6-I didn't really like it

it's more like an out of 5 system, I have thought about adjusting my scores with that in mind, just using like 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. but I haven't gotten around to it
Some people are into that kind of thing.

For me a 6 (and a 5 for that matter) are shows I did not necessarily hate, but they are shows I would not willingly put myself through again. It's a show that I think is "fine," not good or bad, just decent or okay.

Looking at the shows I gave a 6/10, I would say that the number one theme for these shows is lackluster characters. Usually shows I gave a 6/10 have characters I didn't like much at all. Also I am not a fan of melodrama whatsoever, so shows like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and Ano Hana (which received critical acclaim by the general public on MAL) i ended up giving a 6 because of the abundance of melodrama (also I wasn't a fan of any of the characters on these shows either). I will also give a 6/10 to a show that doesn't really stand out much or do anything to differentiate itself.

Wrong.

5 is average. Everything above 5 is something you liked at least minimally, otherwise you're messing around with the MAL rating system, which puts you with trolls. MAL ratings are logical and perfectly fine, so why do so many do as they please and render it useless?

Ohai btw, recognize me?

I rate with the whole scoring system:

10 Favorite anime, as close to perfect as possible (has flaws of course)
9 Great, but has some problems
8 Very good, has a major problem or lots of smaller ones
7 Good, enjoyable but has big problems
6 Fine, not good, but has some enjoyable aspects
5 Average, good and bad things balance each other out
4 Bad, serious problems
3 Very bad, hard to find anything to enjoy
2 Horrible, huge problems and thoroughly unenjoyable
1 Appalling, makes me nauseous or pisses me off seriously

Wrong.

can we differentiate median and modus please? average is modus in theory, not median. but in practice most anime is created to be good. not to be bad. that's why even if 5 treated as modus, it's always become median. the modus always above 5. it's depend on your standard actually. so none of you are wrong. just different standard. that's why mal have overrated standard are kinda understable. even the worst anime ratings on mal are above 2.

Since when did anime reviewers become "credible" or not. There's no expertise for anime lol it's all subjective, if you like it then it's good.
