I don't consider a 6/10 a bad rating per say; as MAL's rating system suggests, in my eyes it just peaks above average. Unfortunately it's possibly bogged down by a balancing factor; whether it be horrendous pacing, bland characters or a weak plot.

Overall, decent; worth a watch if it certainly picks your fancy, but not required viewing by my standards.

I draw the line at 7/10+. As long as I liked it and thought it was good, I don't mind how many 7's I watch. But why settle for a constant barrage of 6's? Sure they're not bad, but why would I want to dedicate so much time to a hobby that I only derive "decent" pleasure from?
I don't really see it as a waste of time. The majority of the anime that I gave a 6 to are under 100 minutes. There are about ten of them that are a full cour. The only 6's I have that are more than one cour are the two seasons of SAO and Hyouka. I usually feel that 6 isn't low enough to bother dropping. There are also some anime like Baka and Test and A-Channel that were stupid but I still enjoyed. I felt that they were only worth 6s even though I liked them. I've only rated 13.5% of the anime that I've watched at least an 8 but that makes up 35.3% of the time that I've spent watching anime. I'm using MALGraph for these numbers so it's not counting rewatches, not that I rewatch anime anyway.

For me 6/10 are the one that very good but not very good
MAL rating system has some issues. that all good series are in between 7.5/9
and we cant rate in points that is the flaw here.

I rarely watch/read reviews, but I consider 6/10 to be an above-average score.

I don't see it as a "bad" score, but it's nothing to write home about. If I find myself thinking, "Eh, it was alright.", after finishing a series, it'll usually fall around 5-6/10. I might have gotten something to enjoy from it and I don't regret watching it, but I wouldn't rush out to recommend it.

7/10 is where the "good" scores start for me.

Good but likely does little to nothing to be marked exceptionally high. Animation, sound, continuity, pacing and other similar traits are all serviceable. I enjoyed watching it but was rarely if ever on the edge of my seat or jumping right into the next episode. Would recommend to anyone who is already a fan of the franchise or genre but no one need to go out of their way to watch it if it's not something they may have put on their PTW already.

Pretty much this. I also tend to give a 6 to shows that I enjoyed for the wrong reasons. (like the story was kind of crap, but I enjoyed the cute girls haha)
or I rate a show 6 when it starts out good, but has some major flaws down the road and ends up being a bit of a disappointment.

So overall for me 6= enjoyable to watch, but doesn't live up to its potential OR kind of bad,but enjoyable for the wrong reasons.

Oh and I don't mind watching anime with a 6.something ranked score. I find that a lot of anime in the 6.5-7.2 range are hidden gems that have just been overshadowed by other more hyped titles.

6, means a good watch for me. Most times I going to give it a try then. But most times I give higher than 6, because if I like smth, I tend to give it high, since I enjoyed it.

How the hell do you fail a written driving class LOL

half of the questions can be answered by someone who never took class because they are common sense. The test is mostly a formality.

6 = average. Slightly better than mediocre, but I still wouldn't recommend it to anybody. The positives slightly outweigh the negatives.

A 6 to me is OK/average for its genre(s) like the anime Good Luck Girl (which is rated in the high 7's by user score)

Mals rating system is stupid. No one really watches anything with a rating lower than a 7, why waste your time since a 7 average on MAL.

For me, it's:

7 - Has some flaws, but has enough good points that if sounds like you'd like it from the plot, go for it.

6 - Has a lot of flaws, but one or two really strong points that pull it up from being average, but still not something I would recommend (i.e. There are better examples of the genre out there)

5 - Average. Just straight up average. I pretty much stared at the screen, watching every single troupe and cliche happen one after the other. While not bad enough to make me stop watching, I would never recommend it.

And from 4 on down, it's increasing worse from there.

If something sounds interesting to me, and if the score is above 7, i'll watch it. Hell, i'll even watch stuff that I don't think is interesting if it has a score above 8. (there must be something about the show if it's rated that high) But if it's a 6.99 or lower, I just assume it's not the time.

Well if you're rating it, you've..probably already watched it?? :P. How do you know what you'd rate a 6 before watching it?

If it's average or slightly above average, I don't see too much of a problem of continuing in hopes that it gets better(assuming it's relatively short), and it's mostly 20 minutes of your time a week, no biggie.

Unless, instead it's painful to watch, in which case I'm pretty "above average" isn't quite the word for it.

Unless you mean 'people's opinion', which is never really ever reliable for your opinion, though always interesting.

I would try an anime even if it got a low score. I think 6/10 is more on the slightly negative side. When I give an anime that score, for me it means it had its moments, but it was still kinda bad.

For me a 6 would be just average, nothing extraordinary to see. If it's a genre that I enjoy then a 6 could be enjoyable to watch. If it's a genre I don't particularly like than it's just going to be a chore.

Usually, it's either an overrated anime or a guilty pleasure.
It's when I know the writing is terrible but I can't bring myself to hate it. There's still a small bit of charm to it.

So basically, whenever I rate something a six, I'm being a pretentious fuck.

It's above average. I liked most of the show but it had enough flaws to not consider it "good", just fine.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a 6/10 to me. The story was alright, the characters were boring, the animation was good and I don't even remember the soundtrack anymore. Overall I liked it, but nothing really stood out.

copypaste from my profile:

[...]In that manner everything that is rated 5 or higher is on the enjoyable side of things. They may also have annoying elements, but the enjoyable ones prevail. Of course the higher you go up the ladder the purer the enjoyment was for me.
5's are average and not impressive at all, but not exactly bad either.
6's are okay, decent enough but not exactly good either.
7's are where the good stuff begins, I'm a fan.
8's are great and I really love those shows.
A 9 is a series that happily let's me admit I'm a fanboy of it.
10's are 9's with even more personal bias.
I probably regret this post by now.

If something is a 6/10 for me it means it had quite a few flaws but I probably leaned more towards enjoying it than not. So 6/10 is slightly positive for me but overall the show wouldn't be very memorable. Although it might have 1-2 memorable things in it.

It's something decent. I don't really give much credit to ratings of reviews, since those vary a LOT depending on the reviewer. When reading a review, I pay attention to the qualities the work was praised for and the flaws, then I can judge if I'd like to see/read that.

But then, MAL reviews are very "questionable", since most MAL people are story worshippers, then most animes are reduced to books in reviews. This is why most reviews here aren't "anime reviews" but "what-if-this-anime-was-a-book reviews".
