I've been watching anime for a little over 2 years, and in that time my taste in music shifted by a lot. I've been a metal fan for most of my life and i could have never imagined myself listening to alternative rock (bands like Ling Tosite Sigure) or j-rock (not the newer stuff, but bands like Flow! and Asian Kung-fu Generation).
I used to be pretty close minded about music and stuck to one genre, but i accidentally, through anime, introduced myself to lot of genres which i didn't even know i liked.
Has anime affected your music taste?

Not really, I just started listening to Japanese music too and I've always been the type of person to listen to anything I like instead of limiting myself to one or few genres.

No, I love anime music, but I like a lot more of genres. While I like the song, the genre of music isn't important.

Nope, how could it change my taste? I mean, I listen to a bit of japanese music (mainly openings and soundtracks, though) every now and then, but it's not really a change in taste.

Nope, I still listen to music I grew up with and English music , I also however listen to Japanese music.

I personally believe you can never listen to too much music. I try to listen to everything I enjoy and to just try and discover new artists along the way.

I'm so pre-occupied with watching anime that setting aside time for listening to music is irrelevant for me.
All credit goes to Sacred.

I'm very bad when it comes to finding new music genres and songs. Anime at least helps me get a few but rarely do I bother to go and look up a list of songs by the groups/singer that did the anime song that interested me. I find I'm more attached that specific song because it reminds me of that specific anime.

Not really. I listen occasionally to anime songs or j-rock but that's the same with any other music.
And it depends. For example Death Note or Ergo Proxy ost are not very different from my usual preferences.

I don't think it's really changed my taste much. Most of the anime related music I listen to is still relatively in the same genres I preferred before, just from a different region of the world.

I suppose a lot of it has a more "poppy" feel to it than most of the stuff I listened to, but it's not really all that different.

Being closed minded about music is truly a huge flaw of many people. "Shit taste," one might say. When I was a child, all I listened to was metal. Looked down on people that listened to, for example, hip-hop because I thought it was all bullshit party music. Nowadays the majority of my favorite artists are rappers. I simply found what I liked. Sometimes people just need to hear something they like of any particular genre for them to broaden their horizons. Same goes for literally every form of media. If anime presented to someone music that that person wouldn't normally listen to, and they liked it, then hell yea that's awesome. Bravo. I have three favorite genres that, while vastly different, are also quite similar. Metal, hiphop, and orchestral. Blows people's minds when they hear that.

I don't care for anime music, because I perceive it as accompaniment to the story.
Of course there are songs in anime that I like, but they never influence my tastes.

I have a lot of anime music. kpop , and jpop on my phone now.. I've always liked these type of songs ever since hearing anime ending and opening songs as early as 9 or 10 years old for me.

I didn't start watching anime with serious regularity until 2012 .. so I didn't start consciously adding japanese , anime, kpop, jpop music to my phone or mp3 player until 2007 when I decided to add a few naruto op songs to my now ancient mp3 player. I wouldn't say that my tastes in other styles of music I liked before changed, I simply added another category to music I like.

Yes for sure. I used to only listen to classical music before watching anime. Now i listen animu songs a lot, and quite a lot of jrpg OSTs. I still listen to classical music from time to time, but not as much as before.

There was a time when i just listened to anime music lol

Actually i am less biased in that, how ever i rarely listen to J-pop, i am more fan of specifics songs than from a band or specific genre

but everyone has their own tastes i think.
