I love incense but the 'rents don't let me use it because they're convinced I'll try to cover up the smell of weed with it.

Haha, I feel you.

My Step-Dad hates it, so I have to be sneaky about lighting it or his nose goes all crazy.

I have been an avid herbal incense smoker and I found legal and safe to use incense products from following website

Hope it will help.

I like to use the old school charcoal and stone incense in a censor. I use it mostly for religious purposes (Eastern Orthodox Christian), but it's also just so calming!

There was this "witchcrafty" store down the street from my old place that sold packs of about 12 sticks for a 25 cents. They didn't smell like cheap fragrance either. It was pretty great! :D

From time to time, I like the smell.

Once when I was a kid, carpet in my rug got dirty because of its ashes, and I was afraid that my mom would find out :( So I stopped lighting it for several years.

Yep. I have a box with about $60 worth of different incenses a few feet from me, haha. I don't light incense all that often though, because I have sensitive airways.
Most of my favorites are sandalwood and agarwood scents (labelled as such).

Sootiness and smoke varies quite a lot, depending on a bunch of factors. It's mainly cheap sticks that are uncomfortably sooty IMO (though I have an expensive Tibetan sandalwood incense that's practically made out of powdered wood so that's smoky as hell).

It's not very healthy too breathe that in though

In Japan, there's even an old 'art of smelling incense'. :)

But even when it's lit for spiritual purposes, I think a pleasant smell is relevant.

Yeah, you might be right. I can get a bit woozy by some of the more perfumed ones. I think the wooden part of the smoke is nothing compared to sitting in front of a campfire though. Either way, I tend to light them in a different room to get a milder experience.

Depends on what you mean by good. A lot of people feel that it's good for creating or heightening certain moods; be it romantical, spiritual, prayer, new age/hippie stuff, meditation, esoteric rituals etc. - or just to provide a pleasant smell. Various types smell very different from one another (I recommend traditional and wooden scents - things like "tropical fruit" tend to be modern cheap smelling concoctions).

While some incense is very cheap and bad, average grade incense is actually very affordable and ok. For example, a package of 12 sticks typically costs a few $/€, with each stick providing a very strong aroma for approximately 1 hour. I sound like a salesman, haha.

Where do I buy this? Konbini or some special store?
