| The reason QB wasn't interested in stopping Homura was that he didn't know about her. The QB in each new timeline was unaware of the events of the previous ones. This is pretty clear from QB's numerous comments about not knowing why Madoka has so much potential, his finally twigging what's going on at the start of Ep. 11, and of course (though Madoka's reset is a bit more fundamental) from his treating the whole 'witch world' as just an interesting theory at the end of Ep. 12. Also, the witch doesn't die to create the grief seed. The witch 'is' the grief seed, just as the MG 'is' the Soul Gem. All the witch's death does is make the GS available.
