Amazing episode, this one, unlike the previous ones, was action packed, and boy I didn't expect this to be so violent, it really added to the realism.

Woah, the Zeon squad completely failed. Bernie seems to be the only one who isn't dead/injured.

HOLY-- BALLS!!! That was as intense as anything I've ever seen in Gundam! I regret not seeing this sooner. 5/5! All the way!

The action scene was insane and brutal. Not something that a 10 year old boy should see:/
I loved it~

My thoughts last episode: "dat cliffhanger". My thought now: "wtf how did he get up there without being seen? how lame"

But that's just nitpicking compared to the rest of the episode. Finally we see the benefits of Gundam in a OVA form, something I've been expecting since episode 1. Hopefully they'll also tone down the kiddy element from now on.

This episode confirmed in my mind that this is a legendary series, and at a whole other level than the plethora of Gundam series. Wish it never ended, or atleast was much longer.. Sucks that the others got so many episodes and were generally average, whereas this series eclipses them in every way and is relegated to an Ova with 6 episodes.

That last scene was so brilliant.
Bernie pointing a gun at Al and then it pans out to the mobile suit standing right there.
Really nice directing here.

If I'm honest to myself, this OVA blows direction-wise every other Gundam I have seen OUT OF THE WATER. This could pass as a live-action movie just fine.

Incredible.

I'm pondering on whether giving this a 9 or a 10/10 now.

Excellent episode. That was fantastic, the action and the plot are just flawless. That firefight in the Federation base was intense, bloody and excellently done. I'm amazed.

One of the better episodes for sure. It's interesting and puzzling that the old men knew Zeon would lose, but why they would continue to do the mission is odd.

The fight at the base was amazing. It's just too bad we didn't see more from that new Gundam, it looks awesome. I'm glad they're also dropping snippets of MSG, it helps give the idea that White Base's fight isn't going unnoticed.

incredible episode, the pacing and directing in this series feels way better than what tomino was doing with the 3 before it in my opinion, its just way more well contructed and im curious to see if this director did any more gundams, i like how in this theres alot of calm and cool moments so the action has an impact like this did rather than action in your face every second like the 3 main series were.

Also my god the animation direction in the series is top notch, its really beautiful to look at. I also adore how this ep focused on ground combat rather than focus on the gundam combat, Seeing this much literal blood -shed is quite shocking and really sells through the brutality of it all.

Everyone else's reaction is pretty self-explanatory : I have no word to describe how masterfully done that episode was.
Intense and brutal, and oh boy that ending was heart-wrenching. From the naive kid idealizing war to the young and once enthusiast new recruit who lost countless friends and took twice as many lives, now pointing the gun at him, to finally the old veteran dying in the arms of a stranger, far from home and everything he once held dear; all three caught in an endless circle of hopes, desillusions, violence and despair, all produced by war and symbolized by the Gundam, the ultimate weapon, standing alone in the devastated background. No wonder why that scene was so powerful. Great direction here, and the show will have to seriously fuck up to prevent me from giving it anything under a 9.

Incredible episode. Despite the stupidity and ignorance of Al, at least we finally saw the dark side of this show. Pretty much Bernie's unit got wipe out. Though they seem to already knew they were just sent to the colony to verify the existence of the new Gundam prototype Gundam "Alex" RX-78 NT-1.

Lol how the hell did Bernie managed to get past everyone just because he was wearing a uniform and had Hardy being lifted on.

Gundam Alex really REALLY reminds me of Nu Gundam by Amuro. I wonder if they used some of the specifications for the future Nu Gundam.

Finally that idiot kid Al now feels what war is like and it's not a bunch of games.

I have a feeling Bernie or Chris will die by the end of this show. Heck they could make it even more darker and kill Alfred which is much better tbh.

Can't wait for the last 2 episodes!

So, it is a brand new RX78 model, destruction it will be.

5/5
First, the best part of this episode: the cliff-hanger scene gathering the three main characters.
The operation was a disaster but a treat for the eyes. Everything seemed great (obviously there must have been some flaws but I could not notice them).
The "Gundam crush" was obvious before it appeared but it is largely weaker in contrast to the ones in 0079 and 8th MS Team, so it won't be annoying, I presume. (although I liked the "rushed" soul connection love from MSG) Soon, the confrontation will come between the boy and the girl, but I wonder how Bernard will find a MS to fight her. (+ he might lack skills to beat a good test pilot)

That new model kinda looks like a hybrid of the RX78 and the Mk.II, it has the RX78's form and the Mk. II's color scheme, or maybe I'm just imagining it.

Everything about this episode was awesome. My favorite episode in the whole franchise so far.

I really don't understand why that brat is still helping the enemy out, even if he didn't knew the school or his parents should've talked about the war/the recent attacks and who the enemy is right? It's not like he's 5 or so right?

Especially hated it that once he was faced with the truth that even then he still helped them out...

Aside of that the episode was pretty damn intense, let's see what happens next though!

Amazing episode, got chills going down my spine during the battle. I'd call this episode flawless if not for that convenient Al's escape in the beginning. It's clear from the surroundings that he couldn't have possibly climbed up without getting noticed, it's literally impossible given the geometry of the scene.

Misha, talking to Steiner: "To we who are about to die"
Misha and Steiner: die

Garcia to Bernie: "Don't die pal"
Garcia: "dies"

Damn the red flags are so in-your-face haha

But damn that battle was superb. I love how Garcia was the only one out of the group how wasn't noticed during the talk about Australia, and hence he was not suspected of being a spy by the Fed soldiers, so he got separated from the others and had the chance to save them. I really like how it's built up with tiny details.
Though I wonder why do we get somewhat happy music in Gundam during mecha fights. Like, here's some really intense battle with gloomy music and people shooting each other, and now we've got the mechs destroying each other and that's fun, so here's your cheery music, and now we're back to people dying again so we're back to gloomy music.
But those are pretty minor complaints compared to the general awesomeness of the episode. And yes, the last cut was very impactful.

P.S. For those who didn't notice, the date was 17th December 0079. It was briefly shown on a display when Misha was doing some stuff on the parking lot.

At least Bernie is still alive after his whole squad got annihilated. I thought Christina was going to find out Bernie's true identity but I was wrong lol.

Wow that episode was brutal. I don’t remember too much of the action in MSG, MSZG or MSGZZ or CCA but I’m pretty sure this is the first time we’ve seen such a bloody battle in a gundam series so far. I was actually quite surprised by that. I really like Bernie, he’s a pretty cool character in my opinion.

War in the Pocket just took a real serious turn. Al's innocence lands him the middle of situations a young kid should never be anywhere around.

Lol, that kid discussion reminded me of Gundam discourse.

"Zeon literally killed billions of innocents and wanted to commit mass genocide."

"But Zeon is way cooler than the Federation. They look awesome and Zakus rock."

Man, what a pointless waste of life. Glad at least 2 of these bastards paid the price.

Im loving Als and bernie relationship. I expexted christina to be a more important charcter but shes barley shown and bernies crush seems forced. AND al as adorable that he is why does he think zeons are good guts like your parents and christina work for them helping enemy might cause them to die. And so the mission began and besides bernei all his comraded are most likely dead. And chris is pretty bad ass. I just know eithe al or bernie is gonna die
