SAO Vol. 16 and Mahouka Vol. 17 holding up just fine, and so is NGNL Vol. 7. Nice seeing a few Overlord volumes as well.

Hopefully some of NisiOisiN LNs will find their ways in the list soon.

Mahouka and SAO at 1 and 2 again pleases me ever so much, not long until Yen Press' releases of Mahouka over here as well.

Gekitotsu no Hexennacht getting a good second week of sales is fab to see likewise it's fab to see Overlord boost continue.

Mitou Shoukan://Blood Sign caught my eye, written by Kazuma Kamachi, I didn't realise how much he writes, I thought Reki Kawahara wrote a lot but this man seems to be doing even more.

I hope the 8th anime ep. will be high quality, cause sht is about to go down.
I can see it boosting it by a little more, if it's done right.

Definitely better for Gekitotsu no Hexennacht with this week included indeed. Still far from KyouHora's sales though. Maybe the book wasn't big enough (only 400 pages) so some fans of Kawakami boycotted it xD

So overlord volume 1 has now more than doubled his sales number compared to right before the anime (36k->73k). That's some good anime boost here. Well oretuee character trapped in a video game sales easily so no wonder. Very good operation for them anyway, especially since it's tankoubon, so they actually get quite a bit more money per volume sold than bunkobon.

Damn, I want to pick up SAO's Alicization arc again, so bad. >.< Too bad we have to wait nine, or ten novels, for it.

^ This is why light novel localization can be a good thing, and a bad thing. I like to own physical copies, that I can read, but I don't like the wait to get back to where I was(fucking Index, and it's 20+ volumes, I swear).

Think of it like this:
There are about 50 new light novel releases in the average week. So about 2500 per year. Extrapolating out, this would mean about 18000-19000 or so over the period covered by that thread. Of those, Accel World's volumes are around the 2-300th rank mark. So yes, I would say that it does sell rather well.

In all honesty anything that even gets on that list is selling very nicely indeed.

The drop can be explained because there was a large delay between vol.15 and vol.16. I hope they will not have to wait 1 year for volume 17, Reki already said the next volume will be Progressive 4.

I was thinking that too but every novel has been geting a 25% drop since the last 2 months:

Index sold 25% less (from 135k in Vol.12 -> 105k in Vol.13).
Mahouka got 25% less sales, from 170k in two weeks to 130k in two weeks.
SAO got 15% less sales, from 210k in two weeks to 175k in two weeks.
Netgame got 25% less sales to, from 18k in two weeks to 14k in two weeks.

Oricon messed up the data or many stores stopped reporting their sales to her.

what's the difference between tankoubon & bunkobon?

Is that why overlord gets ranked in literature/book category & not bunko?

I only know that overlord (1k ¥) costs more than regular titles like sao & mahouka(600-700 ¥). It makes the boost sound more impressive tho
Imagine a berserk anime by Yoshiaki kawajiri at Madhouse.

99,931 174,961 Sword Art Online Vol.16

The drop can be explained because there was a large delay between vol.15 and vol.16. I hope they will not have to wait 1 year for volume 17, Reki already said the next volume will be Progressive 4.

Don't forget s2 was airing when v. 15 came out which probably helped, although the 1 year gap hurt sales a bit too.

Chances of MAdhouse announcing a second season cause it is actually split cour is now even more confirmed.....when an author says his novel sells more than expected u know u have higher chances :)...here is hoping plus there is already significant evidence pinpoint it is split cour already...this just strengthens it more.

There's no hard and fast rule. Any one of those series that you mentioned potentially could get another season.

Split cours are typically planned in advance. Note that this says nothing against its chances of a proper second season, though.
Bestselling light novel volumes of the year/all time* (and more in the same club including weekly series ranks etc). <-- No longer being updated. Sorry.

I see I always thought there was some invisible rule for light novels to get a second chance type thing like novel X has to make this X amount and novel Y had to make this X amount I was under that impression I know for manga it a little different

They are but a lot of time they don't even announce them until after the whole season airs.

So overlord volume 1 has now more than doubled his sales number compared to right before the anime (36k->73k). That's some good anime boost here. Well oretuee character trapped in a video game sales easily so no wonder. Very good operation for them anyway, especially since it's tankoubon, so they actually get quite a bit more money per volume sold than bunkobon.

what's the difference between tankoubon & bunkobon?

Is that why overlord gets ranked in literature/book category & not bunko?

I only know that overlord (1k ¥) costs more than regular titles like sao & mahouka(600-700 ¥). It makes the boost sound more impressive tho

The size. Tankoubon (18.8 x 13,5) are bigger than the bunkobon (15.4 x 10.6 or 15,2x10,9) version. And therefore, the price. Bunkobon are usually between 500 and 700 yen for the huge majority, whereas tankoubon are more around 1,000-1,200.Overlord is the later.

*6. 10,379 125,922 No Game No Life Vol.7

Season 2 please. Anyone here knows whether they have enough content for season 2 or not?

For No Game No Life's second anime season, there is enough material for a second season BUT they completely screwed up with that ending of the first anime season. THey adapted volume 1-3 but the ending scene is the 6th volume.

Whatever they do won't work well.

Adapting 3 volumes again ?
4-5-6 -> best and simpler choice for a one cour ImO BUT that make the second season ending with the same scene as the first one, which is awfully stupid...

4-5-7? (6 can be skipped since it's a flashback 6,000 years ago except for the ending scene which was used in the first anime) -> then three problems.
a)We spend most of the season to reach the actual ending scene of the first season,
b) that means skipping the volume that fans almost unanimously consider to be the best volume (so angry/disappointed fans everywhere, be ready for that, and I would be part of them for sure even withoutbeing a fan, because volume 6 IS very good) )
c) volume 7 isn't conclusive at all, it ends in a cliffhanger...

Adapting 4 volumes in one cour instead?
4-5-6-7 ->
a)would end in a huge cliffhanger so a HUGE NO,
b)would spend 3/4th of the season to reach the final scene of the first season,
c)and would logically be more rushed due to 4 volumes instead of 3

4-5-7-8->
a) volume 8 isn't out so cannot do it right now,
b)it's far from certain that it will be conclusive due to the sheer amount of things to resolve (this has clearly the possibility to be a 3 volumes arc) ,
c)this would skip the best volume so far (angry fans), and
d) this would still be rushed

Doing a 2 cour with 6 volumes?
4-5-6-7-8-9 -> assuming the current arc is a 3 volumes arc this would be the perfect solution but
a)this needs 2 volumes not out yet +
b) needs the editor to be willy to do a 2-cours 2nd season after a 1 cour long 1st season which usually don't happen.
In case volume 9 isn't conclusive this cannot be done either, but a 5 volume long could definitely be done with 22-24 episodes.

So anyway, that looks pretty bad. Most probably, it won't happen, and if it does, that's not any time soon.

Has it ever happened for a light novel adaptation? Haruhi doesn't count as half of that was re-airing episodes.

Indeed the only series of any sort that springs to mind off the top of my head that had a 2-cours sequel to a 1-cour first series is Yama no Susume.

There's also the fact that MF Bunko J light novels have never had 2-cour anime adaptations...

Solid. Now it extends its lead over Mahouka by a good margin.

Is this what they call the lesser of two evils?

Also glad that NGNL s2 is highly unlikely~

About the ending of NGNL Vol. 6, originally it was supposed to be an original ending for the anime (at the time the anime production ended, the latest volume out was the 5th). The author liked what Madhouse did and added it to his 6th novel, thus making it "canon."
