Uhm, I don't think Renge would make that kind of playful statement about dead parents, especially not if they were her own....I might be missing the point you're trying to make though..

Renge is quite innocent (which is to be expected due to her age), I think we can agree that much. If Renge can't even remember them due to her being a baby, it makes sense that she does not quite understand what "parents" are at all, she might have heard that the other girls parents are routinely at work on the field, so when asked Kazu-nee might have told Renge that theirs were too "at work on the field" for the same reasons we tell kids about the fat guy in red that lives in the north pole.

I don't think so, to be honest, the Flatty-San episode showed quite well that Renge understands death, even though in this case it's "just" pets they kept in class, also so far to me Kazuho doesn't seem like that kind of person to not talk properly with her sisters and say genuinely irresponsible things like that, there's a difference between Santa and parents that have passed away.

Either way, there's tons of Anime and Manga were parents are never mentioned, still I don't start to think about all the Yuru Yuri girls or the boys of Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou as orphans, just to name a few.

Most of the time there is no tragic story behind that and there's no need to try and find one, it's just that most of the time there's no need to show or mention the parents because they are just plainly not needed.

So, the first thing that comes to your mind when thinking about Kazu-nee is "responsible adult", o-k-e-y, we definitively are not seeing the same series here so lets leave it at that.

Great episode, I really liked its mood and atmosphere, together with letter and dive story.
Ending photo scene and the scene where they were chasing butterfly was just about brilliant.

That bridge was pretty high, when they shown it from bellow.

And funny how Hotarun is mature-looking in comparison with her classmates :D (even more funnier when one compares her to high-schooler Hika-nee :))

My bet is this was just usual household's budhist altar. We haven't seen their parents so far but nothing points to them being deceased, they are most likely just working hard.

No, I didn't say responsible adult, I said good sister, who knows right from wrong and so far every one of her "mess-ups" were serious. But let's leave it at that, yes.

Renge's parents are not deceased. In episode 1 of Repeat Kazu-nee tells Ren-chon that their parents will drive her to the entrance ceremony, but Ren-chon insists on taking the bus by herself.

Here is my theory - The white Isuzu pick-up that we see in the background of almost every episode is Renge's parents going about their daily work. I swear that in one episode of Season 1 it is briefly shown parked next to the Miyauchi residence.

It is also mentioned that Renge's grandma bought her the new back-pack, but since she would have three other grandparents it is possible that one or more of them will be deceased, thus the offering of rice.

Another great hilarious episode!
At first Hotarun is afraid of jumping from the bridge to the river but at the end she still did it for the sake of the pictures.
Epic BABU-BABU embarrassment by Hika-nee when Hotaru sees her!
Renge just found an "honest store" a store which there's no attendant at all! and the product was a "Zakura" which also translates to Pomegranates!
Renge always loves to name insects just like those dragonfly..."Jumbo" haha
LOL at Renge's picture capture to Hika-nee epic fail capture also!
What a nice picture shot Renge got from Hotarun's jump!
We heard again "nyanpasu!" and their secret base.
6/5.

I was indifferent to Hika-nee in Season 1, but now that her character is more fleshed-out I like her
In a way she is like Koma-chan - suffering from her insecurity. In Komari's case she desperately wants to be seen as 'grown-up' and has a complex about her small size and childish appearance. Hika-nee, on the other hand, wants to be admired and seen as cool by the younger girls, though fails miserably. I think these personality flaws make them easy to relate to, besides being comedy gold.

That Natsumi and Renge are oblivious to their desires makes it even more funny, and Hotarun always ruins it by unintentionally one-upping Hika-nee.

The episode is flown in a flash, I do not know what message he wanted to convey the narrative, but to me it is as if to say that the city has its own charm, but also live far from the city, it has its own unique charm. I was haunted as I watched all the beautiful views shown by the script, fabulous. Drawings and animations very good, good to see Hikage and have his presence throughout much of the episode.

It's deeper than it looks most likely.

They're crearly touching the bottom with their feet.

The way Hikage entered the water could have leave her unscathed but the way Hotaru dived, she would need like 2m depth from that height.
But well, we're talking about anime physics...

Despite the bridge not being that high up, the water was quite shallow, since they were able to stand on the bottom and still have their upper body above the water.

Speaking of water ... MAN it looked so yummy and beautiful, if we'd have rivers / oceans that looked as clear as it did in this anime I would probably jump in one every day of the summer, hell maybe even the winter lol.

Their secret base. <3

Nice seeing the other friends of Hotarun from Tokyo.

That scene with Hika-nee using the massage chair. Lmfao. Even the subtitles are shaking when she's shaking. Jesus. That was genius I can't. And them two sisters playing mother and child. Godsake. "Baboh baboh" Hahaha!

Idk how many times this show made me want to go live in rural area than in urban. Ugh.

"Ren-chon and her photography skills". Hahahaha!

Glad Hotarun finally plucked up the courage to jump. Yaaay!

Another very heartwarming episode. <3

I don't really see an appeal to jump into river.. Even if I did it in the past.. But damn social pressure, I guess.. But, well, I overall don't see appeal in swimming, even if I can swim..
Hm, a letter from Tokio friend to Hotaru..
It seems that Hikage indeed has a friend in city?.. Well, glad that she's ok..
Seems a bit random, why Renge would want to play with dolls.. Nostalgia or something?.. Because we don't see her playing with dolls at other times, really..
Hm.. The ending felt a bit questionable, but oh well..
