Like most of the high rated movies in IMDB I liked a lot, but I rarely end up liking anime rated high here.

Is it because people on imdb use the full rating scale?

Nah,it just means you agreed with the site's users more.

In other words, higher compatibility than with the MAL users.

Gotta raise that post count.

99 posts in more than 8 months, yeah I'm really concerned with post count. And posting in threads is a quicker way to increase not making threads. Once again you are an idiot.

Everything is more reliable than MAL ratings.

NO GAME, NO LIFE is in our top 200 anime.
Remember in psycho pass where jovial red head man got pizza'd.

Almost made me cry as hard as when guitar lesbian got pizza'd.

Psycho pass, so deep.

No. In MAL at least there's an active hunt for fake and/or duplicate accounts that try to manipulate the ratings. IMDb has thousands or hundreds of thousands of users voting something that hasn't even aired, constant massive upvotes and downvotes, and doesn't seem to give a fuck about it.

Also, their tops are really more about popularity than anything else, with their high vote limit.

Once again? Boy, I seem to have offended the OP without even knowing what I said.

I wouldn't say so. Just because you and IMDB users share a similar taste doesn't really mean much. Just because the scores reflect positive on your opinion, doesn't mean they are reliable. They are just reliable to you, but that doesn't mean in general.

On imdb there's a bigger ratio of normal properly functioning adults who know what they're talking about to the big puddle of teenage autism. If shows like Mirai Nikki spread to the general public, I get the feeling that the reaction would probably not be as warm.

Dragon Ball Super also had a 9.7 on IMDB when it first aired.

while it wouldn't be my list, i'd call every movie i've watched in the imdb top 50 well above average (apart from star wars, but i have a particular aversion to the series)

on the other hand, mal has attack on titan at #43

but in my experience, good movies are pretty universally accepted as good movies, i've never seen someone call the shawshank redemption overrated trash

rottentomatoes >> imdb regardless

Always use a group of professional critics scores over a group of random user scores.

'Professional anime critics' don't exist. The closest thing you've got to a well known site that does anime reviews is ANN and they fucking suck. It's really no wonder why sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic don't take their scores into account.

Metacritic seems to miss a few tv shows and films
IMDB has EVERYTHING

There are some misses in IMDb, eh. Specially regarding short films. Still, it's the most complete database of audiovisual stuff by far.

But Cult Classics aren't necessarily good. The Room for example is a cult classic
