Kyoto Animation has announced via its official Twitter that light novel Musaigen no Phantom World will be receiving an anime adaptation. No further details were included in the announcement.

Musaigen no Phantom World is a fantasy light novel written by Souichirou Shinno and illustrated by Shirabi. It was published in December 2013 and received an honorable mention in the 4th Kyoto Animation Awards in 2013. The award is for original works that include novels, manga, and scripts, and the winners have a chance to get an anime adaptation by Kyoto Animation.

Synopsis
In the near future, spirits and monsters are in full sight. A boy leads a group of people with special abilities as they plot against a massive organization that takes advantage of a certain incident and eventually know the truth about their world in the process. (Source: Official site)

Tagline: Is the world the real thing...? Or is it a mere phantom...?

Another work by Kyoto Animation? Interesting.

I wonder if it will be a TV adaptation though.

I wish they would invest in a Hyouka film.

This doesn't look too interesting, but I bet the animation will be fucking amazing.

If this is going to have a harem or harem-ish things, I'm going to murder someone.

Well currently KyoAni is the only reason I will be checking this out. Definitely do not like the LN art style.

Seems somewhat generic, to be honest. But, since it's done by Kyoto Animation, I think it'll be worth a shot. They have the ability to pull it off.

At least it's guaranteed to have pretty visuals.

...that's something.
I hope it's not the kind of poor blend of moe fluff x wannabe dark fantasy that Kyoukai no Kanata was.
Also the LN apparently only has 1 volume out as of now.

Are you serious? The plot sounds unoriginal as fuck.

I'm so disappointed. This studio has amazing production value yet lately they have been producing garbage/mediocre anime. Do they only choose to animate winning submissions from their annual awards? They need to broaden their horizons.

For a LN, Yes. I found it interesting how there was no mention of "High School" but oh well cover blows it up.

Seems like the next KnK in the making, but I guess it will at least look decent.

I bet there is still a decent chance for a magical academy or highschool to appear later on. Believe in the industry.
Stone Ocean adaption when?

This JRPG-sounding line doesn't belong here, at least if they want us to (not) take this show seriously.

Why can't KyoAni just make more seasons of their old shows?
This doesn't look too good at all

Looks rather interesting, but it only has one volume for the light novel. So I doubt it gonna be that long of an anime nor will it probably follow the main story line to said novel. None the less added to my plan to watch list.

In theory, trying new stuff is all nice and dandy. Stagnation is the death of creativity.

We don't need other studios to follow Toei Animation's sad example. No need to revive Full Metal Panic or Lucky Star.

That said...this title doesn't look too promising lol

Why's KyoAni gotta be wasting their time and talent on something like this?

Doesn't sound too bad, and it will look good at least, but the LN is apparently only one volume so I can't see this being too long unless they decide to be ultra-faithful to the source material (like the currently airing Rokka No Yuusha).

EDIT: Once again, ANN has a much better synopsis than the one used here, which seems to be almost intentionally dull for some reason.

Can't blame them, they need to produce more franchises; they have very little. They just need to work on their selection.

In that cover photo yea. But in the CM an stuff like that she looks like a mix between Saya and the black haired angel for that Sora anime {can't remember the full name}, but that only cause she wears things in her hair too.

Meh, I'll pass. This looks similar to KnK and KyoAni can't really do this supernatural harem battle stuff well. Hope they have some other good anime to announce besides this one.

Man, KyoAni hasn't made anything good since Nichijou. Disappointed that they're continuing down that path.

Good for that Souichirou Shinno guy...Hope it will be as entertaining as Kyoukai no Kanata...

Still have no idea why people hate Kyoukai no Kanata but like Noragami...Other than Kamiya factor both were almost same... :/

I don't expect anything good to come from Kyoani anymore.
Mirai Nikki is TRASH
Angel Beats is horrible.
Charlotte is a dumpster fire.
Shinsekai Yori has no characters.
Oreimo's S2 specials don't actually exist.

IM NOT AN ELITIST

I live to see the day where Hidamari Sketch or Little Witch Academia get another season.

This novel has only 1 volume so it can be adapted fully however as it's only 1 volume, it will most likely be a short 8-12 minute anime.

Hyouka when?
