A website revealed that a new anime project for Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu is planned for 2017. The site also revealed that the studio will be Production I.G and will adapt Yoshiki Tanaka's Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu novels.

Previously, an announcement was made at a stage play for the series that a new anime adaptation was green-lit. The official website does not confirm if this is still the same project.

Synopsis
In humanity's distant future, two interstellar states—the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance—are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Müsel and Yang Wen Li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. (Source: Wikipedia)

Boy am I glad a schlock studio like Madhouse doesn't animate it although I.G isn't the best either

We can only pray that they bring out their top guns. How about an Oshii adaptation? Talking heads and people doing nothing are part of his specialty, after all.

You mean Madhouse visuals does not provide satsifying results? KyoAni is what we need indeed

Will be interesting to see what amount of CG they're going to use. I assume it'll be similar to Xebec's Yamato remake in that regard. Hand drawn space battles are ridiculously hard to produce after all. Hoping for the best though.

Welp...Gonna try to watch the original series until 2017 I guess.

I fear that it's going to be full of quotation if that happens but i'd definitely be nice

isn't he busy with directing live action shows? when was the last time he directed a movie?

I would rather have a long running show that covers a lot and makes profit than good art

Good news, Production IG is a great studio and I'd rather wait a bit longer for a quality LOTGH entry than get a rushed mess.

Question is, will it be able to surpass the original?

That's because you lack the intelligence to enjoy Space Prussia.

But seriously: Aside from a few flaws it is one of the few shows that manage to *get* politics and features an immensily diverse cast of great and interesting characters. For that alone, it should be watched.

I doubt it will be as good as the main OVA, but that's fine. It just has to be better than 90% of the seasonal crap we get nowadays and that is easy enough.

I just hope to god the narrator will shut the hell up this time and not spoil everything before it happens >.>

Yeah, people who do not appreciate good art and careful planning in fiction deserve crap like this season.

I never got why people seem so annoyed by spoilers. The execution matters more than pre-knowledge imho. And the narrator's voice was gorgeous.

Think he rather meant that the company's profit has nothing to do with whether or not you'll like the show itself as a viewer :s

Let's hope this time the pacing won't be as sleep-inducing as the original OVA series.

Yeah, thought about that too.If it will be not a remake, but a completely new story with some old characters, who will be appearing sometimes?

I hate narration as well but there are some occasions where I find it can be quite a powerful storytelling tool (note: LOGH is not one of them - even though I agree with you that LOGH's narrator has a great sense of tone), this probably comes down to storytelling preference - as you allude to. Sometimes its better to see things coming based on build-up rather than just simple info-dumping (I'm saying this as a general rule - not as something that is applicable at all stages). Despite my sentiments towards the matter, LOGH's narration is still probably quite appropriate, based on the release schedule of the OVA (over 10 years) and if you watched the episodes as they came out, you'd have a hell of a hard time keeping track of things, and the plot being as complex as it is as well.

Definitely interested in watching this. I always want to like a space opera anime. I hope this will not be as cheesy as Space Battleship Yamato 2199.
I like anime.

Elitists rejoice!
Mirai Nikki is TRASH
Angel Beats is horrible.
Charlotte is a dumpster fire.
Shinsekai Yori has no characters.
Oreimo's S2 specials don't actually exist.

IM NOT AN ELITIST

I live to see the day where Hidamari Sketch or Little Witch Academia get another season.

Must start the original serie and side stories then. Good it's only in two years so i will have the time ^^
And glad it's I.G who's making this new adaptation, they're behind GITS and it's one of the best mecha / SF show which exist, so i'm quite confident about this one.

Life goal: Survive until 2017.

Based Production I.G on the production. I have enough hype to last me for the next two years.

We can only pray that they bring out their top guns. How about an Oshii adaptation? Talking heads and people doing nothing are part of his specialty, after all.

If Oshii actually jumped into this project, I'd jizz my pants.
