| For me its always side characters without the plot armour, be it romance or action. Romance: Every single guy/girl out there that lost to their love rivals just because rival is the series' heroine/hero. And its always these side characters that deserve to win more than the main heroine/hero. E.g. Zero no Tsukaima and every love triangle shoujo manga ever. Action: People that would have won if they part of the main cast. E.g. Berserker from F/Sn. (How can you lose when loli tears are the greatest save flag you can get?) |

I wouldn't really call Guts "free". He might not be physically chained down, but he's not free either. He carries a cursed mark that draws demons/monsters/undead abominations to him. He is forever haunted by the last thing his right eye saw etc. So yea Guts will never be free, until he gets his revenge. Well he is strong as a monster, problem is that his enemies usually are actual monsters. Guts is actually nicknamed "struggler" 'cus he continues to struggle against his fate/destiny. Barely surviving isn't what I'd call "strong control over destiny" . |

| Kamijou Touma's right arm erases good luck, so in theory, he should be the most unlucky character. Can't really see how having a harem on super-powered girls all lusting after you is unlucky, but that's just me. Maybe it really does suck... |
