Never stop being MAL. Talk about our site and our goals for our site on our own site, no that's crazy, let's go to someone else's site and talk about our site, way more convenient for the people on our site who's had questions for years. Right when you think someone can't screw something so simple up, they show you they can.

Good riddance.

The questions that need to be asked are all in the support section. Simply copypaste them.

Don't give us some cool ideas~ ^^

This isn't even funny. I'd probably quit MAL fully if that were to happen.

Hello MAL! I'm excited to announce that we'll be hosting a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) in /r/anime this Sunday. The thread will open at 4pm PST, and I and staff from the development side will be available to answer your questions from 5pm-6pm.
what about the international community members? not everyone lives in the USA. 4pm PDT is 1am in Central Europe and 7am in the Philippines and 9am on the east coast of Australia. not everyone on MAL is a student with summers off nor is it summer everywhere. so much for the international community getting their voice heard.

Xinil said:
You may be wondering, "but why host on Reddit and not here at MyAnimeList?" We considered it, but we wanted to utilize Reddit's powerful community voting system to promote the most important questions. So please be sure to upvote the comments that are important to you!
Really? Reddit? You own and develop a forum site with it's own community and everyone has to go to a different site to ask you and the devs a bunch of questions about MAL. You live in California. That's like your local government hosting a town hall meeting in Las Vegas. If you're going to host a town hall meeting with your community then it should be done here on MAL whether than on a different website with no affiliation with us. But I already know your mind is made up about this.

Xinil said:
I'll make another announcement on Sunday with a link to the thread for those interested. Thanks!
I'm not a member of Reddit so I won't be participating in this but I really hope you do something about the 20 second wait time on leaving comments on other people's profile. Even FB doesn't have a delay on writing on numerous timelines and their community is way bigger than ours.

How lovely, MAL members should already know Xinil is not the top dog anymore. The true MAL overlord will be the Japanese company currently owning the site (previously Crave). Blaming him instead of the company is like executing the translator in a peace negotiation with foreign countries.

Someone better ask them why this site is trying so hard to become a jack-of-all-trades and master of none. I don't want MAL to abandon the simplicity it had back in the Crave days, you don't need all these shiny new knick-knacks on a site built around listing anime. It's not MyLegalStreamandCompanyPartnershipList, it's MyAnimeList. Don't get too happy with your dickfingers, Xinil, you'll end up fucking this site beyond repair.

That's true, but we still need to express our discontent so the other side knows (if they even care).

You might be talking about the comments directed specifically at Xinil though.

I agree but I was more or less referring to that individual's apparent disappointment in expecting his joke to be taken as a joke and nothing more, which is naïve, given this website's track record.

I know this question is not going to be answered, but still.

What makes you think that problems of MAL should be questioned on reddit? What makes you think that possible upvotes won't be from reddit users but from MAL users?

Well don't worry, it actually will be funny and even more pathetic when the top question upvoted by reddit users will be "Why MAL sucks?"

"They" chose reddit because it's big and will generate a lot of interest, which will in turn generate a lot of visitors to MAL, some of which might stay. This is also why this site is turning into a facebook-like... thing. All for getting people to come and stay.

Think in numbers, revenues and other economical terms. Suddenly, things are clearer.

But it's also sad that the MAL API forums for example are left alone and nobody cares about them, and even contacting Xinil is impossible (IRC, MAL, anywhere) about questions in that topic while they are hunting for new users.
It always saddens me when new users are way more important than the old guys :(

While I like the idea of an AMA, hosting it on Reddit is a terrible idea. Do you expect the entirety of MAL that doesn't have Reddit accounts to move there for this? How do you know the current community's concerns will be addressed rather than mostly those of non-members?

This is more annoying than reassuring.

No, because you completly missed his point about non-members upvoting or downvoting our questions.

I know all these are grabbing new members tricks, I am frustrated because why reddit, lol? If anything it is one of the the biggest circle-jerk site I've ever seen. Any unpopular opinion gets shot down to depths of hell.

They want us to ask questions and give suggestions, well go ahead make a poll in forums.
Next "they" will start their own Youtube channel.

Fair enough, missed that.

Even if they get downvoted, that doesn't make them invisible unless they really get downvoted, and if it's a genuine question it likely won't. We aren't all dicks on the sub or anything, despite what it seems this site believes. If anything, the sheer number of people on MAL would easily overwhelm us on the sub if those concerned would make accounts and upvote the relevant questions.

I miss the good old days when you had to wait 4 bloody hours for an anime to appear on the list.
Now you can watch anime episodes directly here. I don't understand this site anymore.
I use MAL just for the list and anime info.

Even then, not every single question asked is guaranteed to get an answer. People would prefer this to happen on MAL because it concerns MAL, not Reddit. It's obvious that the site is only hosting it there for attention and advertising, which is fairly disappointing to those who actually care.

Sure, a lot of people on /r/anime use the site's listing features, but Redditors aren't a part of MAL's community; they should get little to no preference or power over the people who participate here. I can only hope they change their minds and host it on-site.

As is the case with most AMA's.

The fact that almost all of the sub uses MyAnimeList means there'd be little incentive to do this for Advertising, we know there's a forum here aswell, but we choose to use /r/Anime instead and holding the AMA on the sub won't change this. It may attract some interest, but MAL isn't new to many of us at all.

My guess is they want opinions of MAL from an outside source, they hear you guys' complain and voice your opinions on a daily basis (i can imagine) and want to see what other places for Anime discussion feel about MAL. We don't have much of a preference, nothing it stopping MAL users from showing on the day and asking their own questions. If anything, you guy's questions are more likely to be answered as they will be actually concerning the website itself whereas most of what we ask is likely to be unrelated to the website.

Also, AMAs are kind of a "reddit thing" So it makes sense for them to hold it there.

Nice to see someone speaking some sense. Not really sure why everyone is so anti-reddit. I understand the frustration in having an ama on another site instead of MAL but i think you pretty much nailed the reasons as to why in your response.

This is a pretty flippant, I don't see it as complaining, but rather feedback on ALL the features That have been taken away.. AND yet we get no reception for some of them. And yet they give us a Hour?? for things we are concerned about on ANOTHERR site? Okay I'll give them credit for their concern for the hour they give us.. When in reality they should be answering our questions on a daily basis and interacting with the users in this community.

Not only the forums API but everything at the API side is retarded and security is a joke. you can easy obtain many passwords.

What do I know about it? Well I am a co developer of an unofficial API for now around 2 years. I have seen things that the normal mal users wouldn't notice. Xinil never responds to my messages and kineta just keep apologizing. I am getting nowhere.

4 PM is just a joke. come on it is monday moring in europe then! I will try to participate and ask for a good excuse! Why is mobile support more important than website security. He maybe likes gore and SSJMaster ^^

Not that I have any Intentions of participating, but is it "4pm PST" aka Pacific Standard Time or is the Daylight Saving Time meant? Or in other Words: UTC Offset -08:00 or -07:00 (which makes Conversions much easier btw.)?

4 PM Sunday makes it 16:00 Afternoon + ~ 8-11h = ~00:00-03:00 in the Middle of the Night on Monday for Europeans and again ~ 8-11h = 08:00-14:00 (2 PM in the Afternoon on Monday) for East Asians/Australians.
It would've been better to start it on a Saturday Morning, so that everyone interested could still participate in it without having a too inconvenient Time Zone.

As for why the Support for Mobiles is more important:

So you prefer gore on hacked accounts and SSJMaster (hacked DB multiple times) because of those reasons? Site rank? really?

When MAL got hacked it was on #1, so we should hacked again for a even better rank XD

Just a Certificates should do something in rank but they chose for the hard way of writing mobile support :)

Just pointing out the Main Reason why Mobile Support has been pushed instead of Security (because most Changes could just be reverted/rolled back).

A good Ranking in a leading Search Engine is important after all and not having Mobile Support seems to down-rank a Site.

btw.: I'd prefer HTTPS and better Security as well.

Your question fits so far; Thanks to reddits community so far one of the most upvoted question is "who's your best girl" and "what the team's favorite anime is" lol
Well lets hope the voting lasts more than the hour, even then who knows how this will go.
