Up till the 4th episode, I was enjoying Tomehane. I like how the Japanese can make activities as mundane as cooking and in this case, calligraphy, look exciting. Like cooking and calligraphy are sports rather than soft cultural thingies.

But then in the 4th episode, they made out that calligraphy is more important than Judo and that I can't forgive. That really pissed me off so for the first time, I am not going to watch a drama series to the very end.

Listen, anywhere in the world, ALL cultural activities (like calligraphy and painting and so on) are subordinate to sporting activities and among ALL sport types, the combat sports are the top dogs at the top of the sports pyramid and all non-combative sports shall pay them tribute.

That's the natural order of things. But now, in Tomehane, we have this girl talented enough to do Judo in the Olympics and she wants to skip Judo training to do calligraphy?! That's too messed up for me to understand. I pride myself on my tolerance but this time they (the Japanese) really pushed the very limits of my tolerance to past breaking point with Tomehane.

HOW ON EARTH COULD CALLIGRAPHY BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN JUDO?!
