This Anime's getting stale already. Like, honestly, it's DULL. And full of so many cliches, I can't stand it. Why did people hype this shite up so much? It's bad. :/

Everyone seems to dislike Yusa, but I like her!! She is super cute, and I look forward to seeing how her character will develop as the series goes on and the story advances. In the battle bit with the producer (?) guy, before Misa possessed her, she was being kind of annoying, but that was as some form of deception I take it? I hope her personality does not turn into something like that at all times, her cuteness when she was eating the marshmallows in the hideout was my favourite! I also hope that Yuu's sister (I forget her name...) gets to meet her, she was so excited when he told her she would be transferring to her high school!!

So in this week's episode
- Glasses-kun keeps destroying school property with his ability
- Tomori gets punched yet they don't stop for a sec to give a dam (found that hilarious tbh)
- Tomori engages bitch mode and starts kicking the crap out of glasses-kun
- Enter Misa, yet another chick on her period
- Cliche romance scene comes out of nowhere between Misa and red haired guy
- Nobody cared
- The end

Here's hoping that episode 4 is better....

You missed the part where they casually ran behind the body guards and just knocked them out with ease. (Another thing to look at that there was 3 cars, and 4 body guards..) I mean this show makes no sense.

“Love with Flames”

With great power comes great responsibility. Or does it? Someone should probably tell Tomori that…

If there’s one thing that’s for sure, it’s that for all of Tomori’s supposedly benevolent intentions, there’s a certain disconnect between her goals and the actions she takes to achieve them. One could argue for the use of all necessary force given what’s supposedly at stake, but when you’re rocket tackling people into walls and stepping on their broken ribs threatening to kill them to obtain information, it makes you wonder when she cross the metaphorical “line”.

The fact that she’s essentially posing as an amateur detective is starting to reek more of recklessness and irresponsibility more than anything, and it seems like there’s a giant danger sign hanging here if I’ve ever seen one. Just last week she was almost shot by an arrow—one barely avoided due to Takajou’s quick thinking—and this week she literally runs straight into a punch. The gradual escalation here, and the revelation that some people could hold more than one type of power makes me wonder if they’re setting things up for a rude awakening, and it certainly be interesting to see if that does happen and what the end results of that will be—especially if the stakes are as high as she claims them to be.

I just read the full post and it's awesome. That's how you critique a show!
I previously said that Nao getting punched was unnecessary but now I suppose not. I didn't want to see Nao get punched and that guy really didn't have to punch her all of a sudden. But I suppose it has more of a symbolical meaning; Nao is not going about things the right way and she can be extremely reckless. There's no doubt about that. I just hope she won't get badly hurt in the future but it surely is a possibility. Her wiki page describes her as a narcissist and as much as I enjoy her character, I have to admit that she really is a narcissist.

Also, I found a comment on http://randomc.net/2015/07/11/charlotte-02/

"Food for thought. Be careful what you think for. Because sometimes what you think will be granted as a wish in “KEY” world.
Thoughts that might have triggered those ability.
1.) Perhaps that person there is.
2.) I wish I didn’t exists.
3.) If only I could move faster. Things would have been better."

Interesting thought.

I really like how they use their abilities to create something fantastic.
Guess Yusa and Misa will be joining the crew.
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

This was vaguely fun but was a step down from the first two. The context between the scenes were weak and the second half was completely rushed. If they made it last at least an episode and a half then the fight would have had context and the confession scene emotion but without it it felt rather empty.

Despite the first two being definitely better than AB this had the bad points AB had(the confession scene brought up memories of the unfortunate Hinata-Yuinyan sequence), but I'm still expecting this to come good.

I like Tomori a lot. Ayaneru works especially well in this kind of role

Shame that Nao got caught out by a surprise attack like that. Good thing Takajou and Yuu took the guy down with ease. The animation used where Nao ran into the alley was out of sync. The 3D and her running animation was fine separately, but it didn't mesh together as well as I though it would. An off part by P.A. Works, but honestly, I've seen worse use of 3D CGI in chase scene in other shows.

Despite that, the rest of the episode looked great and was animated well. Pacing was a bit too quick at times, but it got the job done. Yusa's pretty cute, but turning into Misa and getting into a heated exchange with Nao was badass. Poor Takajou was scarred though. XD

Clichés when done right aren't a problem, but having plenty clichés of episode in every episode can get a bit stale. I'm sure that when we get to the halfway point of the show, things will get very interesting.

Good ED for Misa, but I prefer the the 1st ED honestly. ^_^

Normally I would say that it's normal since it's two guards per car, plus the Producer dude, but considering how ridiculous the entire show has become... yeah, nevermind that.

I find the recycling of the jokes to be less of an issue when they're trying to get some semblance of repetitive coherence going. I mean, from the first three episodes, the entire premises of the show has been the students from the Xavier's School for the Gifted running around town looking for kids who have suddenly manifested superpowers (incomplete ones to boot, I might add), and convincing each of them to come join the X-Men.... no wait.... uh.... well it's pretty much the same....
They don't even care to explain why exactly all those power-users just so happen to be located in THAT particular town.
Or that if those Evil Government people and scientists are evil and want to experiment so badly on the power users, then why aren't they even actually looking around to capture and/or kidnap said ability users?
Or why the Government/Organization aren't trying to stop said school from operating either? I mean, why is the person who saved Nao powerful enough to prevent Governments and affiliated scientists from experimenting on students of his school, and to even run their own school for that matter?
And what gives Nao the authority to do the things that she does outside of school anyway? We're talking about blackmail, battery, coercion and physical endangerment of unrelated people or persons (they just made a bodyguard stab himself in the thigh for fucks sake). The way they do their shit, you'd think they are well above the law or something.

It's already been three episodes, and none of the most basic of explanations have been given. All we've seen is a routine SoL section (5-10 mins), followed by the then Ability User Search and retrieval (rest of the show) rounded off with some weird Imouto moment at the end.

Yuu has been relegated to the straight man in the unfunny comedy moments, usually starring Nao and Joujirou, and the list of throwaway characters just increased by a handful in one episode.

I've been trying really hard to like this show, but as of this moment only the terms "repetitive" and "forgettable" come to mind. We've already spent 25% of the show on nothing but establishing that Nao's brother got lobotomized by some shady scientists who may or may not be part of some government organization, and may or may not have some ulterior motive for ability users, which for some reason or other may or may not appear in future episodes.
You'd think 3 episodes into a 13 episode series, they'd have at least introduced a glimpse or two of the bad guy's side already, no?

They better add in some story development soon. Otherwise it'll be yet another inexplicable, non-humorous, plot-hole filled series that ultimately goes nowhere and ends up as nothing but decent visual candy.

Episode with more action and movement than the previous ones, in addition also had a good dose of sentimentality, but I want to see an even deeper drama, and also I want to know more about the past of Yuu and Ayumi

The characters keep appearing, this time was another protagonist, still have Noa and his frequent personality changes, really a troublesome person, and another side Joujirou, not so surprising

Now with all the assembled players I expect further development in the plot and drama in the anime ..

Starting to look like a trainwreck. Deserted streets! Everything is so convenient, everyone delivers the exact information they were looking for, every problem is fixed in an ideal way. Awesome planning and the precise dose of luck for a bunch of clueless teenagers dare I say!

The question now is, will it be as bad as angel beats? or will they save it? I'm basically watching to see if they fuck it up or not.

I don't know about this episode..It was okay but felt a bit rushed and the ''feels'' scene just seemed to come up outta nowhere just for the sake of said ''feels''. I didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. An okay episode nonetheless. I have faith that this may get even better later on.

Pretty sad to say this but this episode was pretty disappointing. Yusa and Misa are pretty stale characters and the screenplay at the dramatic scene nearing the end was laughably terrible. The characters have little depth to them, and that action scene was executed a bit ackwardly. I really hope the next episodes pick up some steam. The show is really looking bleak.
Memories may fade, but that doesn't mean there isn't any point in making them.

What is predictable is that we'll have 13 more weeks of this same discussion between the girl haters and lovers...
Just so you know blogs like that are poisonous and shouldn't be taken seriously, it's nice to read from time to time, not to make arguments out of them... If we all are already biased, then imagine reading something from someone who is just biased as us in something both agree. It's a fast way to ditch every opposed opinion without a thought...
By the way what's with that review, it's like the guy was hoping the show went like a Marvel movie, I watch anime to tolerate that shit. Your arguments in the beginning were more compelling until you quoted that review.
Not saying that what the girl did was justified, but they are just kids, so recklessness is pretty much their "motto" were you hoping that all the characters wouldn't have a single flaw after having powers? This discussion just gets more pointless by the minute.

Good episode. This show so far is really lacking in good backstories and dramatic moments (that confession this episode was pretty forced for example), but the characters are extremely fun, and there are some moments of brilliance when it comes to the comedy, especially with the megane (who is so far my favourite character). I hope there is more this show can offer in terms of better dramatic moments, but so far I am content with it.

I just love how the moment a red-headed stranger approached Nao from behind she willingly told him everything and even demonstrated her supposedly to-be-kept-top-secret-so-evil-scientists-don't-find-out powers.
Also that confession at the end was pretty hillarious. Forced was one thing but coming as being pretentious was another thing.

Exposition in a love confession/5.

I'm genuinely having a hard time believing that this is from the same writer of Angel Beats and co-writer of Clannad. The sad thing is that the beginning of the first episode led me to believe that this was something with potential, but instead I've gotten lackluster drama, one note characters, hit or mostly miss comedy, and a generic plot that rushes along from one uninteresting plot point to the next without any time to stop and develop.

It's like someone started off with a solid main character and fascinating power, and someone else entirely came along and hurriedly scribbled down the rest of the story, filling in the blanks with every anime cliche they could think of. I gave this anime three episodes, and now I feel as though I should have stopped before the second.

I'm starting to love Nao. This episode had FEELS.

I think I'm one of the only people who thinks that this still has potential solely because of the overhead themes that this anime can cover. Astronomy is huge, and can even be used as a way to connect to myths and other lore.

The things added into the OP this episode only further suggest that. Geocentrism? Parapsychology? It's all so fascinating.

Then again, this episode felt very rushed. One thing happened, and then another, with no breaks. I wish they could have made this a two cour show, but oh well.
I don't think we're supposed to feel too much for these side characters. They are just ways to inform the watchers about what can happen in the council's antics. No doubt something big will happen later, and this will all be in the past (maybe literally).
If you were to get involved with someone, and then something unexpected happens to them and the people they know, it'd be hard to connect to them because you have no further context. Same issue here. I don't think they put the confession scene in this episode as a way to tear at our hearts, but just to portray that idea.

You're not the only one. This show has potential and now that the main cast has been fully introduced, I think the anime can start working on its plot. The first few episodes of Clannad and Angel Beats! bored me to some extent but afterwards, when they picked up the pace, they were awesome. I expect something similar from Charlotte. Please don't disappoint me Jun Maeda...

I guess what bothers me is the lack of discussion about it... anywhere, unless I'm not looking hard enough. Here, everyone's saying things like "Oh, this sucked; I'm dropping," or "I liked it. I'm excited for the next one," or very detailed explanations for either of those things.
What talk about themes is very little, save for the blog post delving on Nao's personality and Yuu_vi_Britannia for revealing some things to me. I've also found some things on Reddit.
I dunno, I guess that I just expect this kind of anime to have a more... "verbally theoristic" viewer base, considering that a lot of Key's works have a lot of serious themes incorporated into them.
That's probably just me being selfish.

I did a pseudo-analysis of episode 1, but you can't really expect people to talk about themes when the anime turns into shit on a more basic level, as it happened in this episode.

I really wanna like this show. The first episode was really fun, and so I had high hopes for this show.

But the second half of this show was pretty mediocre. Well, it even started out with a pretty darn lame event. The airhead Yusa accidentally picking up a producer's phone with scandalous info? Seriously?... To make it worse, it was resolved... quite horribly too... Of all things to do, use your superpowers to threaten a guy into submission just so Yusa can keep her job as an idol?? I mean, weren't the student council supposed to prevent the use of superpowers for personal objectives???

I found the love scene at the end extremely cringe-worthy, not least bcos it was done so quickly and without context. Tomori's backstory with her bro already felt a little forced in epi 2, but this dramatic heartbreaking scene was done in 30 seconds max... Yeah, sure, that made me cry a river -_-...

I'm also getting a little impatient with the story. Yes, it's still very early, but I'm still puzzled at how such a system of identifying and protecting superpowered teenagers can possibly work... I know it's all fictional, but the story being set in a supposedly real, modern Japan makes me beg for it to at least be a little more realistic... But, like ppl have said, the main characters have only now been introduced, the story will pick up next week... so, I'll wait...

(Oh, one more thing abt the plot... How come Misa can control her flames so well? I get Yusa's abilities' defect, but Misa seems to have complete control of pyrokinesis, even to the point of being able to stopping her flames from spreading. I thought all superpowers were a bit defective?)

But there's another thing. I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but this show does somewhat reek of the feeling of 'I've seen this before' (in particular, yes, Angel Beats and even some aspects of Key works like Clannad and Kanon eg
).

I mean, yeah, it's by the same writer, so similarities and even some references should b expected, but when the joke's been used so many times, no matter how good, it does get a bit dull...

Anyways, I still really like this show. The MC and the Teleportation guy are still pretty cool, imo. Now we've got the whole main cast (oh yeah, Misa, is cool, Yusa is... painful to watch) hopefully, the show lives up to the potential I thought I saw frm the first episode.
You can see my lack of a profile picture as a smartass way of calling myself kuuhaku (from NGNL) or just me being too lazy to find a profile pic. You decide.

Holy shit, when Nao got punched.

And her line after that xD

Positives:
Misa vs Nao was lol
Nao's personality change was also hilarious
Glasses-dude's reaction to pretty much everything.
The ED was amazeballs.

Negatives:
Still no development for the MC....-_-
WHY, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE!?
Like the person above said, the confession was pretty weak. It should have had crying and everything! >:I
>'Using our powers for good'
>Does alot of bad and destruction
Um, okay.

This makes up for the last two disappointments~ 3/5
Although I enjoyed this ep, the story isn't really going anywhere. I mean, we saw her past last ep, and suddenly it's jumped to something else, like it doesn't really matter. Well, I'll just have to wait.

Hope we can get more Misa-goodness~

Man Key makes the move already this early. Sad confession. Felt slightly rushed but it actually made it work better imo because the confession was supposed to be sudden and tragic

Ahh, the protagonist keep getting more and more sidelined. even though he was the most entertaining aspect of the first episode, and basically my reason for giving this show a try. In this episode he was even reduced into bland POV with one snarky inner thoughts and two. I just hope this show will give back all the screentime he deserves. Oh, and i probably have to remind myself to fast forward every scenes of super cutesy little sister cooking boring meal in the future. It's getting real old by now.

We're almost there:

Shit, I missed "death befalls". Misa should qualify, right?

Looks like a fun episode next week... But what the hell?! Angel Beats! 4th episode was a baseball episode and now Charlotte's 4th episode will be baseball episode as well? I loved Angel Beats! and always wanted to see something similar to it. But this is a bit too much...
Though there's one thing I'm happy about. Just today I was thinking how nice it would be to see Nao wearing something other than her uniform. My wish has been granted. :)

I saw few comments of complain but I decided to not write their explanation to then counterargument it and generally I don't see a reason to read hate comments about anime I like. (generally my idea is simply the show was overrated and people love to hate animes that are overrated as what is the point of hating not overrated anime, after all the hater won't get much reaction from it)

Another good episode, I loved it. The show keeps giving me that "key" feeling, both story wise and animation wise.

YEY!

I do not know the environment looks more like Clannad.
Kyou route.

Well, there was a baseball episode in Afterstory.
Hey, any chances of finding a preview with English subs? Naturally, I can't understand a single thing being said in the preview except for Joujirou's "Yusarin! Yusarin!"
