| Honestly I'd like to know this as well. There are a lot of ecchi shoujo manga that boarder hentai, but they often tend to be sexist toward women still. The series Nana and PAradise Kiss are both shoujo/josei that depict sex scenes and show plenty of shirtless guys, however I caution that both of these series are pretty damn sexist because Ai Yazawa seems to hate her own gender and thinks rape is an okay start to a romantic relationship. I have also found that some smut doujin are female oriented- I found some very nice One Piece ones that are super shoujo and sweet and the sex is sweet and not gross. Also look at my banner, I drew that and many more (I make man body pillows which are ironically more popular among gay men than straight women go figure). You and I should totes be friends. |

THe thing is, in Japan, the animation industry is like 90% male, so they don't know how to make something that actually appeals to women. They can market it for that audience, but it never has the substance. For example, you've got UtaPri. I LOVE UtaPri, but in large part because it does NOT take itself seriously- Which you can tell is a decision by the animation team, likely because, being A-1, it's a primarily male team. Most otome games are also written by men. They just don't know how to write for women. Now, as for why shoujo manga are sexist? Truth be told, Japan itself is a VERY sexist and socially backwards culture, sadly. And this shows up in anime in spades. |

Like you said, Josei manga have the whole rape theme going on (just like the Shoujo and Yaoi ones) because maybe women get the impression that if the man apologizes enough (sincerely) than women feel superior to the man because instead of the woman groveling for attention, the man is, thus putting the female readers in a superior status that eventually calms down and goes back to a mutual relationship between the man and woman. Definitely agree with your last statement. It's also largely dominated by men so the whole "hentai for men" is because there's a larger (and most likely more powerful) niche for that. |

There is no such thing as an "ecchi shoujo manga". The term used is smut. :P There are plenty of josei that have healthy sex scenes but like, they'd never be animated. Ai Yazawa's art style isn't very... idk appealing sexually? It's beautiful I guess but her anatomy depicts humans as skinny sticks. |
