As a whole, I don't mind which. Unless I see the R+ (I'm so annoyed to see this kind of amines as a girl)

Dear god no, shounen is definitely my most-loved demographic/genre.
Target audience means nothing!

I'm a girl and I don't try to avoid shounen.

In fact, I use to watch shounen more than shoujo xD

Woa Woa Woa I understand males avoiding Shoujo but females as well. Wow It's so sad to see so many females avoid Shoujo more then Shounen, now that answers my question on why there's less Shoujo anime. I remember between 2000-2008 a lot of Shoujo manga were receiving adaptions with 26 episodes long but now everything went downhill cause Shounen has taken over the world :/

That being said I avoid most of the Shounen unless it has a similar plot to Nanatsu no Taizai or Saint Seiya. Those are the only Shounen I fucken love and have on my favorites cause there amazing

I usually don't care what the genre of something is if it seems interesting enough to watch. Generic ecchiharem, stuff that bores / infuriates me, and childish crap are usually things I find myself dropping but besides that I'd say I can be more "open".

gender's fake, friend

also it never occurred to me that a significant portion of people would do this for Gender Reasons as opposed to just not being personally interested

No, I avoid bad stories. Both shounen and shoujos can give us good shows.

Used to absolutely avoid shoujo as a kid because I was sooooo insecure about my manliness and thought they were only some corny romances but after watching stuff that sounded very good/interesting regardless of target demographic(utena, escaflowne, tutu) I love them even the romances, though I only watch stuff that I'm sure to like. Also if a show is actually appealed for girls instead of dumb otakus its usually a sign to be much better, compare madoka to any other magical girl show, or nana to random shounen romances

I do not avoid either, I do not think "shoujo" or "shonen" are well defining labels, however sometimes a show is made to be a shonen or shoujo show, at that point you should run away!

I like both generally. But it'd be a lie if I said anywhere near as many shoujos/josei series as shounen/seinen ones. I just happen to avoid the mediocre shoujos, whilst i have a larger skew with shounen.

I don't avoid either and generally like both types. I find it best to not constrict myself to a particular set. You'll find good works in both.

If the plot seems interesting, I will watch it no matter if it is a Shojo or a Shonen

Personally I don't give a damn about shoujo/shonen labels. If its a good story, its a good story.

An anime being tagged as Shonen or Shoujo doesn't affect my decision if I'm gonna watch it or not.

I don't have a problem with shoujo as a male, but shounen tends to be insultingly dumb for me.

And by shounen, I refer to shows that have shounen tropes, like Shokugeki no Souma, not the "it's shounen becuz it was in a shounen magazine hurr durr"

I try to avoid shoujo as a male but also I've seen some. It's not like the genre matters that much but many shoujo type of stories don't seem to get me

you know who DOESN'T do that? Magical girls. You know what demographic has the most magical girls? Shoujo.

Pretty much.

All shounen dialogue basically sounds like "my dad can beat up your dad!"

"nuh-uh!"

"yuh-uH!!!!"

Omg ~hugs you~ glad to see another fellow female Shoujo fan ♥ it's really upsetting how less and less Shoujo Manga get adaptions. I've read so many good manga's that are definitely worthy of recieving an anime. I think it's time for Japan to take a break from making all those shitty magical ecchi harem and your typical Shounen shows and give Shoujo another try.

I get its what gives the most money at the moment but I'm sure there are girls out there who want to see a couple of Shoujo anime that are at least 26-52 episodes long not 12 xD btw love your favorites this world needs more anime like Full Moon wo Sagshite and Kamikaze kaitou Jeanne those were truly amazing ♥

As a guy, I dislike Shoujos
Have tried a bunch of them, the humor is just terrible IMO and I generally dislike the characters' portrayal, either we have Mary sue just like in Kaichou wa Maid sama or either retarded jolly girl like in Lovely Complex or Ore Monogatari.
Only exception so far are Nana (but it has the characteristics of a Josei rather than a Shoujo) and Ouran Koukou Host Club which managed to have a solid heroin and acceptable side characters (like the twins)
May try things like Akatsuki no Yona, Utena or Versailles no Bara but no more high school Shoujo.

I came across more males avoiding Shoujo than females avoiding Shounen. I also came across a few female avoiding Shoujo, but, so far, no males avoiding Shounen. Personally ? Don't care, though I tend to read less Shoujo because they can easily go on my nerves.

Watching nana right now. In a guy. So I guess that means I don't avoid the genre.
Brace yourself.

Soon as LotGH 2017 comes out. The anime community is going to become so cancerous you will need to take cover and hide.
