Same for me cause some of those characters I really relate to and well I get to be around them for a long time (if its a moderate~long running series) so if some bad happens to them or they die I get really upset or bawl my eyes out.

Its normal entertainment is meant to provoke a variety of emotions cause if you sit there stone faced you are not really entertained or moved. xD

I would say it depends on how old you are.
People are all different, however, if you are 18+, I honestly think it's weird if you cry at every damn emotional scene at an anime/movie/show whatever.

Not at all. I'm a very overemotional person and I cry at happy moments as well as sad moments during shows, and in real life too!

Not really. If your favourite character dies in a heroic way wouldn't you cry?

You should show Grave of The Fireflies to your friends.

Crying is a human emotion. If you are trying to convey to your friends that you are an extraterrestrial being, you may want to stop watching human media first.

When seeing a character that one likes and cares for, it creates sympathy/empathy and sympathy creates a connection. Connections are then relatable which equals to a relatively good anime and higher ratings. IMO any anime that can achieve this level of making the audience cry, is doing a very good job. Although if the character(s) aren't built up enough (char dev and what not), its doesn't really do much and often times feels "meh". Somewhat of a silly question.

If an anime can make you cry, it managed to do something right. I don't see any problem is showing that.

It's okay to cry for fictional characters. It means you have a good sense of empathy and a good heart. It's better having a good heart than being heartless.

if its dumb to cry for an anime character then its dumb to cry when mufasa dies or any live action movie

Good sense of empathy to fictional characters' or real people's situation is a positive trait, a figurative characteristic of a good-hearted person.

I think it's alright to cry for loving a character. I cry while playing game and watching anime as well. Shounen tears are never dumb.
