It was announced via its official site that the final episode of Kekkai Sensen, to be broadcast on July 4, has been postponed until further notice. The production committee reasoned that the final episode would require more than the scheduled 30 minute time slot. A program related to Kekkai Sensen will air in its place.

The twelfth and final episode was originally scheduled to air on June 27, but was moved to July 4 due to a delay in one of its episodes in early June.

Kekkai Sensen was adapted to a TV anime for Spring 2015 by studio Bones, based on the manga by Yasuhiro Nightow. Its first Blu-ray and DVD volumes were released on June 17, and sold 12,171 and 4,784 copies, respectively, in the first week on Oricon's weekly rankings.

The official website and Twitter will be updated once the broadcast is decided.

So the final episode will be more than 30 min? That's cool! :D
As long as it turns out great I don't mind delays.

You know, i really hope that this is just caused by poor planning and not because some guys on production commitee trying to strong arm Matsumoto into doing their bidding considering Kekkai Sensen's crazy sales.

At this rate, the broadcast dub might actually catch up due to what is almost certainly piss-poor planning. Disappointing, but hopefully the delay will lead to a finale of top quality, or at the very least one that is better than what the final few episodes of the show have been.

No wonder given the number of distinct frames used in this anime. Well, I am still on episode 10 so can't complain. ;)

Ufotable, who has been famous for having 1h long episodes (UBW, Fate/Zero) is actually involved in the making of Kekkai Sensen (it's just my assumption because I saw Ufotable in the shows credits). I'm not surprise that it's more than 30 min long, it sucks that the finale's delayed though.

This is obviously attributed to the huge boost in popularity and success Kekkai Sensen has received as of late. I actually like the delay and a much longer final episode because it will give Matsumoto the ability to fully realize her vision for the anime and keep stuff that originally intended to get cut.

Plus, now this means DRRR!! x2 - Ten premiere won't get delayed since both episodes were scheduled for the same timeslot originally.

Like a lot of other studios, ufotable is only mentioned in the credits because they helped with the in-between animation (it's usual for in-between animation/2nd key animation to get outsourced to other studios).

Huh. That's good sales influence. I don't think what it was in the plan, before BD and DVD sales.[Or maybe, was?]

Since the finales gonna be 2 episodes long, doesn't that pretty much indicate there's not gonna be a season 2?

The finale is only one episode (just longer) long. Also it will pretty much be an original ending because of the Black and White stuff.

Finale being over thirty minutes and its delay goes to show how bad the planning and scheduling of the show is.

Dang, that's disappointing since it was one of the few anime I have been really enjoying this season.
But it can't be helped now, and I don't mind too much. Hopefully it works out!

It's unexpected huge sales.
Now they're bumping up the quality of the last episode to meet the high expectations.

Sigh, they keep delaying the finale for this...

Oh well, at least I hope it will live up to its hype with the quality and storytelling or whatever it has planned. Although since it's longer than the usual episode, I think it might be memorable if they do it right.

Sucks about the delay, but I'm glad the final episode is going to be longer than a standard episode because, boy, is it going to need that extra time to wrap everything up.

Also, I'm happy they're not doing a Gatchaman Crowds on this and airing an unfinished, rushed, final episode only to fix it with a directors cut in the BDs months down the line as that was about as unsatisfying as it gets.

Due the unexpected popularity of the series they probably scrapped the original ending.

While I agree, either path is pretty terrible to have to take in the first place. It's had over four hours to ensure this type of thing doesn't happen..

Or maybe end it in a way to make sure that a second season is possible in those added minutes.

Thats what i meant, the ending will most likely be more less the same but just more open and not 'final'. The anime suddenly blew and a sequel is has a high probability. They are adding content to further the series.

So they pretty much did nothing with most of their episodes (especially that restaurant one) and then turn around and say they wouldn't have enough time for the finale? Lol ok.
