They don't like it.....but only because I spend vast amounts of money on it while still having student loans to pay. Lol

However my father seems to show some interest in how the girls are "ahem" drawn....XD

You see yourself as an ''otaku''? No wonder your parents won't let you watch anime then

Like parents even know what it means....

Actually, my mom is the one who introduced anime to me.

So my answer is no problem in my case.

I live alone so it's not like they know what I'm watching.

I'll be out ridin' my pony until it's time for candy

Another form of cartoon for them, but they can see that there are deeper undertones hidden in the shows.

They'll most likely never grow beyond there preconceived notions, but i don't think its there fault. There just to old and bigoted at this point.Hopefully the next generation will be more open minded.

Of all the series you could've have shown them, you choose nisekoi!! Seriously? Not saying its a bad series but, you should've shown them something a bit more mature don't you think? Like death note, monster, full metal alchemist or attack on titan?

Honestly, if you keep showing those type of series to your parents, you can't really blame them for thinking all anime is for kids.

So I don't blame the parents here, I blame you. Don't get me wrong, everyone has different taste and from looking at your list you're the type that like light hearted series. But if you really want them to get off your back you need to take my suggestion and show them one of those series I recommend I guarantee you their opinion on anime will change.

Out of the list death note is my #1 pick, if they watch that and still think alll anime is for kids, just call it a loss and move on.

I'm kinda just a broke teenager atm so that's one of the only ones ive got, and it was the manga not the anime lol

Also I actually enjoy some more dark series like future diary, or another. Have not started Attack on Titan lol

I recommend Monster if you're trying to get your parents to watch an anime.

Americans eat up mystery/drama/thriller type television shows, and Monster is a lot better than most of the live-action American shows within that mystery genre.

+1 On this.

Maybe Death Note as well.
Man a lot of people are recommending Death Note, I need to check it out xD

My family generally don't care, though they do comment about its violence when I watch it with them next to me (didn't watch any ecchi with them next to me, but I'm sure they'll comment on that if they did see me watching)

Only odd reaction I get is from non-anime-watching friends. They generally seem to think my outburst of weird imagination is somewhat connected to watching anime.
Weird burst of imagination huh? Same here, must be an anime watcher thing...

Hah! That made me laugh, and yes they really don't know what an otaku really is, they just translate it to nerd, which is technically what it is xD

I used to have to sneak-watch my anime. The first show I really fell in love with was Inuyasha. I accidentally woke up and saw the ending of episode 12 on Toonami. When I showed it to my mother, all proud and excited, she said something like, "Nothing good airs at 1am in the morning. Don't watch this again."

So what did I do? I woke myself up without an alarm every morning at 5am and watched it with headphones plugged into the TV so no one would know. Forgetting about Inuyasha was not going to happen. I loved it way too much. I watched a lot of different series in secret. If she found out now how many I've actually seen, she might just faint. lol

Nowadays my parents don't really care. They ignore me and my obsession with it. I've tried to show them some other stuff, and dad seems to think Detective Conan is alright, but mom still wants nothing to do with it. I showed her part of FMA:B and part of Ghost Hunt, but neither of them stuck with her. It's sad, but at least I don't have to hide it anymore.

My parents don't know and wouldn't care. They're bothered by my sister's attachment to horror and violent movies, but cartoons would probably strike them as harmless, with the exception of a few here and there. My mom thinks everything with the slightest bit of nudity and/or violence is morally bad though so whatever.

My sisters on the other hand watch anime sometimes even if not as much as I do. I have one that like Sword Art Online and Serial Experiments Lain, and was very interested in watching Lupin: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine after I showed her some screenshots. The one that's into horror likes Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell and the manga Uzumaki a lot, and watched Utena after I recommended it to her. A third one likes Death Note and Black Butler. It's really no big deal to any of them.

At first they toguht of tham as catoons and evaded me when ever I watched or talked about it with my brother. But ower time they started to either accept it or just deal with.Becouse we all have different thinks we like and so our parents may do so too (not like I know anything about it). So instead of clashing opinions start appreaciating the things your parents, friends like and they may do so like wise. Anyway I started collecting
manga this year and boght as my first thing MSG: The Origin and they were like telling me it looks kinda childish with the robots and all but hehe I buyed the entire series of No longer human with it and yea everything after it stays a mistery xD.

its just a mixture of them being fine that I watch anime, they have a rough understanding and they know it can be for adults depending on the series, but they don't really care that I watch it, it doesn't interest them in the slightest and I wouldn't even attempt to show them anything!

Although as a xmas present my uncle burned me the entire Monster collection onto DVD for me, he started watching a few episodes and actually sat through and completed it xD he never watched anything else but he always says that he really enjoyed it as it was something he'd never even dream of watching any other time!

My whole family watches/-d anime at some point in their life. My brother and me watch anime regularly, while my parents watched only a couple movies/series.

Fun fact: I randomly learned from my mother that Ghost in the Shell was a major inspiriation for the Matrix series, so I got into GotS thanks to her :)

And for my father: While on a tour, (he's a tourist guide) he overheared a mother scolding her daughter about watching anime and joined the conversation saying "I watch anime too!" and both of them were like "No way!". The mother asked "But isn't it bad for her?" and he went on convincing her that it wasn't. Then he exchanged with the girl which shows they saw.

Also I wouldn't call myself an otaku..

All in all, I'm glad I don't have to secretly watch anime thanks to my family.

OMFGG, your father's my hero. Damn, that's so awesome *.* *.* *.*

Yeah, people overjudge, that's for sure. All the mocking and judging and messing with your shit makes me so mad. People can't accepet others, their hobbies and the stuff that makes them happy. They want you to be normal, and being normal is the same as being just like the other persons; so when they see you doing something you apparently shouldn't they go insane.
All you can do is ignore those people, they are not worth it; nor do they have to right to mess with your happiness.

When I was a teen my parents saw anime as evil (mainly because of Yugioh) , a waste of time (you could be studying instead of watching cartoons) and that it negatively affected my personality. They don't really care now though. The funniest experience for me is when I bought Trust and Betrayal when I was like 15 I believe and watched it with my mother. I thought that it was just like the Rurouni Kenshin tv series and safe to watch with parents but boy was I wrong. LOL I can remember my mother's absolutely look of bewilderment when it began and you saw guys getting their throats slashed and cut into pieces and stuff.

Not only did my parents not care, but they let me to go to anime conventions during highschool and asked ifnthere was anything I could recommend. Also I don't consider "otaku " part of the anime culture outside of its origin. It makes little sense to use that term outside Japan.

My parents don't really care about my anime watching. I feel free to watch anime in the TV in the living room while they're around. I obviously don't dare to watch anything such as ecchi/hentai/yaoi/etc. in front of them, but they've seen some fairly explicit stuff (such as the dirty jokes/scenes in Gintama) and either don't bat an eyelid, or laugh like an idiot like I do.

Funnily enough though, I wouldn't have felt comfortable doing this at all a couple of years ago. I used to hide my anime watching like I was obsessively watching porn. I'd only watch it late at night, with the lights out, under my quilt with my laptop so they couldn't see the light illuminating my room.
Ah, how times have changed. I'm not really sure how or why they changed like they did.

I'm not an otaku, so even if my parents wanted to say anything about it, they can't. If it is about anime, then they literally don't care and even if they did, I don't care about any remarks or thoughts they have.

Honestly my parents don't mind it too much but sometimes they like to throw out words such as "satanic" or "diabolical" (my parents are devoted Christians) for watching a lot, other than that they're cool with all my scrolls and figures in my room as long as I don't go overboard.

My mom is fine with it. She's an artist and she actually likes cartoons herself (some of them that is). My step-dad knows I watch it and doesn't really care. I don't really buy anime stuff. I did buy an anime shirt once, (tsubasa) and some anime movies.
My sister watches a little bit of it. She's watched way less than me but she's kind of into it. She's into it to the point of asking for recommendations, I ended up giving her 100 anime to watch. I'm pretty good about giving recommendations to friends and family members because I understand their personalities and what genres they're into. Especially my sister. I know what books she read as a younger adult, and what shows on tv she liked to watch. I also know she liked trigun a lot, so there's that. :)
