| Flip Phones have not completely gone away in Japan,at least that's what i have heard from some of my Japanese friends.Sure,there not that popular anymore,but they have been optimized by companies to keep up with modern times. It's sort of like asking,"Why are arcades still around?" There not really big anymore,but they are still hanging around in certain places. |

| For older men flip phones are easier in hiding your calls and such from your spouse when you are cheating on her. It's easy for a spouse to track their husband using a smartphone. As for HS students, it's usually the poor and ordinary that have them. |

| If someone is still using a flip phone in this age, it's most likely because they're frugal and would rather spend $50-100 for the convenience of a cellphone rather than $300-400. These are far more practical for all the teenagers in anime, as they're not going to have tons of money, especially since most of their parents are dead. Other reasons could be: -You're not wasteful so you will keep the flip phone you bought until it breaks and then upgrade to a smart phone or whatever the latest technology is. (Me. I didn't own a smartphone until spring of 2014.) -Monkey hate technology |

| @Kruszer Did you read the other posts? Japanese people are actually buying new flip phones. Some of them can even run android apps which are controlled by the buttons due to lack of a touchscreen. They're basically like smart flip-phones. |
