It does at times go at a calm pace, but most episodes involve existential terror and at times body horror... how does that calm anyone? ;-)

I can't see how this series is any more calming than any other anime.

Calm isnt a insult, just because people might find it calming doesnt mean they just "cant understand the masterpiece." I personally find it very calming, the art, the colors, the scenery, and Ginko.

This, more or less.

And also the fact it is ridiculously slow paced. The more slowly paced an anime is, the more calming it is, unless it's a thriller of some sort (which Mushishi is not).

The combination of the art, soundtrack, and pacing makes Mushishi a very relaxing watch.

Well said.

Some people seriously lack a working brain.

It's slow, but like a parasite that burrows through and nests surreptitiously, Mushishi presents several concepts that if meditated upon, particularly without soothing music and an omniscient Ginko, the situation might appear raw and unnerving...

Agreed!

But it's cool the show uses soothing music even during all these scary, creepy scenes. I think this is done on purpose. It makes people say, "oh hey, death and parasites are a fact of life. We've got to accept it and move on." instead of "EWWWW GROSS! BUGS!"

Me too. I find the general setting to be very relaxing.
