Had hoped Fairy Tails first week sales would be higher but I'm more than happy with what it will likely get as the weeks go by.

*9. *54,626 *,*54,626 Baby Steps Vol.35
14. *38,710 *,*38,710 Fuuka Vol.6
31. *17,830 *,*30,588 Triage X Vol.11

Shame Triage X hasn't had much of a boost in sales judging from similar 1st/2nd week sales of volume 11. Glad to see it up there anyway. Only read up to volume 9 (hurry up September!) but it's fab, anime not so much. Baby Steps deserves more sales, best tennis series I've seen. Behind on Fuuka but good to see.

*1. 89,370 170,053 Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei Vol.16

The king staying at the top, incredible sales as usual. Cannot wait for Yen Press' releases over here. Long way to catch up though.

Great to see Barakamon topping the manga list. Season 2 when!?

As expected, Mahouka Vol. 16 stays at #1. Betting on it to keep it's place for another week or so.

Okobore Hime to Entaku no Kishi is a nice series and deserves more love. I hope someone picks this up for translation.

Saikyou Series and Okitegami are still on the list so it's all good. Need an announcement of NisiOisiN's works getting animated again! >.<

Meanwhile, DanMachi continues to kill it with different volumes! At this rate, second season is inevitable.

Let us see how the rankings differ when the half-yearly list is released by Oricon in a few weeks... as using the weekly manga series sales and the weekly Top 50, still misses some sales since Oricon counts sales for up to the Top 500 weekly manga volumes.

Yea, the sales will probably be higher for all these series when the first half year sales comes out. But getting some rough estimate is still a good help in terms of knowing what we can expect to see at the top. I really appreciate the effort you make in doing all this Ejc, and I hope you will continue to do this.

Natsume Yuujincho <3 Season 5 please! :)

Good to see Baby Steps, Area no Kishi, One Piece and Beelzebub on the list. I really want a second season for Area no Kishi, either that or a more frequent english fan-translation release. Good to see Nanatsu no Taizai and Magi up there too.

Giant Killing is doing quite well in sales, I wonder if it will ever get a second season. That reminds me, I haven't finish the first season yet.

I can see Aho Girl getting an anime one day, or at least I hope so. Series is hilariously facepalm-worthy. XD

Minami-ke is doing well too, I wonder if a 4th season will come. Well I am not even done with the first season yet, watched a few episodes only, but I liked the atmosphere and the art.

Surprised to see Ookami Shoujo doing that well, I hope Skip Beat could do that well too. ): Definitely need that long awaited Skip Beat season 2!

I really appreciate what you're doing, Ejc. Thanks as always and keep up the good work. :)
Could I get some clarification?
1. What do you mean by weeks covered? Do you mean starting from the first volume released in the first half of 2015 until now? Won't sales of One Piece from previous volumes affect the total sale?

2. What about max possible sales? Sales for the first half you mean? It's hard to see how One Piece could gain 1.3m sales in the remaining weeks without the release of a new volume.

^ seeing as how Ejc is using only the top 50 weekly ranks, there's a chance that one piece may get the #1 spot since oricon will add up everything up to the top 500 weekly sales.

The ranking that Ejc has is basically from Nov 18, up till now. Reminder the first half is from Nov 18, to may 18. So the only difference is that Ejc is only using the top 50 weekly sakes ranking and not the top 500 weekly sales ranking. So don't be surprise if the official oricon rankings are different from Ejc ranking.

I don't understand the 1.3m part. Why does one piece need to make 1.3m in a week for?

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry got an anime announcement as part of GA Bunko's 10th anniversary celebrations. Magdala de Nemure is Dengeki Bunko so isn't even a candidate.

I don't understand the 1.3m part. Why does one piece need to make 1.3m in a week for?
The difference between total sales and max possible sales for One Piece is 1.3m. I didn't know that the first half ended on the 18th of May, I thought he meant that it could still have made 1.3m in the remaining weeks until the halfway of 2015.

And why the hell things like Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry get the anime adaptation but things like Magdala no Nemure still haven't?

Magdala is not even selling as much as Rakudai. Before the anime was announced, of all series that still didn't have anime adaptation Rakudai was one of the top selling LN series from GA Bunko.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry volume 6 sold 13820 in 10 days.
Magdala de Nemure 6 sold 14134 in 5 days.

As I've already mentioned, though, that's irrelevant as the two aren't in competition coming not only from different labels but different publishing companies.

1. Weeks covered means when a particular series has charted within the Top 10 Weekly manga series for the given time period there which is from November 17 to May 17, 2015 (26 weeks in total). If its sales are above the threshold for a given week, then this is counted as a week covered. I'm not interested in sales before that, because this is meant to shed light on which manga series will be the Top sellers as a series for 2015 (I will extend this to the 2nd half).

2. Max possible sales for 2015, as this spreadsheet covers sales in 2015 only. Prior sales has no bearing in the rankings that will be released by Oricon in a few weeks. The way the Max sales is calculated is as so:

A + B - C

where "A" is the total sales for a particular manga series from the weekly Top 10 Manga series.
where "B" is the total of the threshold sales for a particular manga series which did not chart in the Top 10 Manga series.
where "C" is the number of weeks that a particular manga series did not chart in the Top 10 Manga series.

The reasoning for this is that a series charting within the Top 10 manga series is a total of all its volumes within the Top 500 manga volumes so there is no dispute over its sales for that particular week. For the weeks where a series did not chart in the Top 10 manga series, its maximum it could've done is the threshold sales - 1, as it would've been equal rank 10th had it made the threshold sales. The minus 1 is accounted for every week by the "C" term.

For example, Nanatsu no Taizai charted in the Top 10 manga series for 24 of the 26 weeks in the first half. That is shown in the total sales for 6,828,353. Now the correction column is there because Vol.14 sold 26,532 this week, but as a series it was not strong enough to sell above the 70,147 sales threshold for the Top 10 manga series. The other week it failed to have even 1 volume in the Top 50 manga was the Apr 6~12 week, where the Top 10 manga series threshold was 127,555.

Therefore its max sales is 6,828,353 + 70,147 + 127,555 - 2 = 7,026,053.

Now when you look at ONE PIECE, it has charted within the Top 10 manga series for 12 of the 26 weeks in the first half. This means that the other 14 weeks we can apply what its max possible sales are using the sum of the weekly thresholds where it didn't chart in the Top 10 weekly manga series - 14 for the weeks it didn't chart. This is where the max sales of 7,613,510 comes from.

IIRC the ookami to koushinryou anime didn't have a lot of effect on the sales of that LN? If I'm correct on this, since Magdala is basically the same kind of story, chances of seeing an adaptation are lower. Adaptations are mostly made to promote the sales of the LN after all.
Or maybe they want to adapt it fully and are therefore still waiting, since Magdala is supposed to be shorter than O&K by quite a bit (should be between 9 and 11 volumes, acording to the author).

Well, until further notice, I would simply consider madala to be part of that group "too good to be made as an anime, except if we're lucky". A group that is quite large in number, ImO~

The earliest sales data I know of for light novels is for w/c 31st March 2008 - in other words, a week after the first season of Ookami to Koushinryou finished airing. Boost to copies printed during an anime adaptation is unreliable as it can reflect the boost the publishers expect to receive rather than the actual sales boost.

So the only way to work it out (unless there is a data source that I am unaware of) is to try to track down various rankings for each volume. But this is an extremely unreliable method. For one thing, the data is ranking rather than sales figures, and often has very little by way of contextual information. For another, these rankings only cover sales from a very limited number of places.

Plus, as you'd expect, the rankings from one place are often completely different to the rankings from another - on w/c 25th February 2008, volume 1 of Ookami to Koushinryou was rank 38 on the Osakaya bunko rankings, but only 118th on the Kinokuniya rankings.

Actually volume 49 was released on May 15, so it had like what? Two days to sale.

It is 3 days of sales, as May 15 also counts as a day.

The most comparable recent volume is Vol.47, as it was also on sale for 3 days. Vol.49 sales seems fairly normal compared to Vol.47, with the drop only being 5.43%. Nothing too extreme or anything.
